There is no evidence McCllelans power faded as the fight went on remember he dropped Benn in the 7th or 8th round. Other than the Benn fight McCllelan never went past the 8th round and McCllelan could have KD'd and built up a large points lead by the half way point that Pavlik would need to KO him which is unlikely because McCllelan had a granite chin.
Just because he dropped Benn later doesn't mean his power didn't fade. You can tell by the knockdowns themselves. Benn was tired and getting hit to much to stand in those later rounds, when earlier it was one flurry that put him out of the ropes.
Look at all of McClellans wins. If he doesn't KO you by the 5th or 6th rounds, you more than likely wll survive the bout.
The consensous is that Pavlik will get caught and go down early. Just to humor the thought, what if Pavlik was able to get out of the first 5 rounds? McClellan's power fades pretty badly, as did his conditioning in a longer fight. If Pavlik was able to get out of the first 5 rounds, he could win the fight by decision.
It would be very hard for Pavlik to make it out of those earlier rounds, though. Taylor cracked him with some powerful, full bore punches and he was able to get up and win. However, could he take the full power of McClellan? I don't think he gets up if he eats those same shots from McClellan. The key for Pavlik would be t not be available for those punches.

Yeh with the first being a fcukin classic init ryno (Eubank/Benn)
2nd alright but not so good has the first..
Who did you have winning there rematch?
Benn should have won the rematch IMO, but i'm not outraged that it was a draw.
Maybe so but McClellan wasn't in a neutral corner due to wanting to jump on Benn so the ref was saying "get back before boxing on" ! So the Ref rightfully kept pushing him back before making them fight on ! Plus McClellan didn't seem to be taking any heed to what the ref was instructing ,wich made the ref look more fussy than he was!
"In the event of a knockdown the Referee must order the standing Boxer to a neutral corner and the Boxer must remain there until the Referee orders him to resume boxing. If such Boxer leaves the neutral corner before he is called to box, the Referee will interrupt the count and will not resume the count again until the boxer returns to the neutral corner. When the Referee interrupts and then resumes his count in accordance with the foregoing, he will commence at the same second where the count was stopped at the time of interruption."
Hmmm...I thought the count had been completed.Still,Alfred Asaro was quite strict in the interpretation of the rules, when it favoured Benn and negligent when McClellan was being fouled. Jim Watts was right in saying,in the first round, that he was being very kind to Benn.

Man thats some fight to be ringside at!!! Jealous I Am!
No problem with the extra time on the count Pedigree, it was the fact that he kept pulling Mcllelan off and pushing him back when he was trying to end it in the first Gerald was raging and Don was going nuts at ring side, im a Big Benn fan, have most of his fights on dvd and met him before (he was sound as **** btw) but i thought it was wrong and it probably cost Gerald the fight and in doing so his vision, partial hearing ability to walk and well life as he knew it.
Nige went in there and did his job the best he could tho, im not knocking him, he showed mad heart and a big punch!Maybe so but McClellan wasn't in a neutral corner due to wanting to jump on Benn so the ref was saying "get back before boxing on" ! Yeah mate it was one hell of a fight ,i even had £50 with my old man that McClellan would beat Benn :smashfrea
Being a traviller,i went to see Henry Wharton fight him and was rooting for Henry to beat him but he only went the distance with him !
These are the fights i have watched ringside live¬
Eubank V wharton
Benn v McClellan
Benn V Wharton
Back then though you could get ringside for £200 ! try doing that now!
Sorry to say this but Nigel Benn for certain had the ref on his side, he kept stopping Gerald McClellan in the first round when he had Nigel Benn. Out on his feet, the ref must of got involved about 6 times in that round for nothing at all which is ridiculous. Plus he let Nigel Benn get away with countless rabbit shots. No doubt Nigel Benn showed great heart/will to comeback, but the ref was for certain on his side IMO.

After that Facts are facts McClellan couldn't Finnish Benn of or keep him down!
There was something in the air that night and those two men went to war!
It was one of the best clashes of styles i ever see !
Benn was a very proud man and very proud of never being beat by any American, and at the presser before hand he said of McClellan: hes all right good power, but i have beaten better men than him,so lets see what hes like in the trenches !?"
and you know what Benn was right !
Sorry mate i gotta disagree ,ya see i there the night Benn fought McClellan, its one of the only fights i have bought a ringside seat for,the ref gave him longer to get up cause he was through the ropes ! I cant see what any other ref would do differently???
He may have taken more points away for the odd foul but what difference would that of made to the out come???
Another thing i will never forget was at the time McClellan sacked Manny Stewart 6 weeks before the fight, rumor had in the press Stewart had advised The G Man not to take the fight with Benn in London!
The thing is Benn took his punches and McClellan couldnt Benns!

When a fighter gets brain damage in a fight u have to question how long it was effecting him somehow or other during the fight, Gerald was hanging his gumshield out early on, perhaps too big, dont know, he also blinked alot.
Also i think that ref helped Benn out ALOT! Good chance he gets stopped Very Early with a different ref!Sorry mate i gotta disagree ,ya see i there the night Benn fought McClellan, its one of the only fights i have bought a ringside seat for,the ref gave him longer to get up cause he was through the ropes ! Yep agreed, Benn was very lucky he was aloud to carry on maybe a different ref and if it had been in the USA it woulf of been stopped.
Not only did he not stop it he continueously pulled Mcllelan off of him, King was going titts at ring side!
This fight would suck. McClellan's blind, and has no short-term memory. He'd never see the first punch coming, and wouldnt' remember getting hit with it.
You guys are all nuts.
hehehehehe
I know i shouldnt laugh but that was a good 1 son..

One of them most exciting fighter of all time IMO, Eubank who was normally a boring fighter after the 2nd Watson fight had a great fight with Benn both times

He was more dangerous when he was Hurt!!
Rate Benn myself big time

Yea to Pav, Benn would have KO'd him quick time. Benn had huge power and had great heart and always got back up even when he was badly hurt.
