Just watched Vitali Klitchko vs Lennox Lewis again there, inspired by the recent comeback! :boxing:
Forgot about how tough Larry was on Lewis and how much of a dick Lennox was, he gave Klitchko NO credit and wouldnt even admit the guy had heart!
Anyway, i thought the fight HAD to be stopped those cuts were TERRIBLE!
That was the fight i became a Vitali fan in (tho im far from a fanatic) it was the making of him, battling a legend toe to toe through the blood and defiantly wanting the fight to continue, crushing talk of him lacking heart after the Byrd fight.
Prime LL beats him tho, and yeah i know out of prime Lewis did too.
Question tho, was this a classic slugfest between the two best big men on the planet as ive heard? Or as ive also heard said, a sloppy fight by two uncoirdinated lumps, one a robot and the other old and heavy?
Ur take? Do u rate it?
Man, I wish that fight would have continued. You can tell that Vitali was about to get knocked out soon. Round 6 Lewis was landing hard shots and all Vitali did most of the round is try and hug lewis all day. He was hurt bad and he didn't even attempt to throw punches instead he charged forward and just clinches most of the round while lewis still landed some hard shots. Vitali is good, but no where near as great as Lennox Lewis. That was his best chance to beat Lewis and he blew it. Lewis comming in out of shape and no regard for his own protection in this fight, he just went for it and busted Vitali up good. A focused in shape Lewis would box the break Vitali down and knock him out in the later rounds.
no hw fight was better ever since.
The personalities in the Lewis-Klitschko fight were much bigger, but for action Brewster-Lyakhovich was superior. It's unfortunate that neither is a big mouth who would hype the fight up greater.
Lewis looked like absolute garbage but was wily enough to mix it up inside in such a way to pull it out with that savage cut. He was able to adapt though overmatched in terms of conditioning that night.

good enough for a rematch for sure!
Hell yeh Mel..
Lewis lost his bottle when it comes to VK...
The first fight was the most exciting fight Lewis has ever been in
because he threw his safety first approach out the window and just went for it
I was at that fight at the Staples Center and it was one of most exciting boxing experiences I've had. There really is a different atmosphere about a heavyweight title fight. It's just too bad the fight ended with an injury. The doctor allowed the fight to go on as long as he possibly could.
WLAD OWNS says otherwise about the cut.

It was a good entertaining fight. IMO one of the last great heavyweight title fights in recent history. Liakhovich-Brewster was good but those two were B level fighters. Lennox and Vitali were the top two heavies at the time IMO.
Sounds to me like you missed Klitschko-Austin

it was a sloppy fight and lewis just wanted to collect the paycheck and end the fight as soon as possible. a prime lewis probably would've been more patient and broke down vitaly.
I think Prime Lewis does the same thing just way more shaper and effective, he always fought big guys head on!

Yeah he is, game as f*ck but its the doctors and the refs Job to stop a fight in those circumstances man, Zab Judah wanted to continue on in the Tzsyu fight but it was the refs Job to stop it same thing
my have the times changed. he gets a small cut against clottey and claims he is blind.
Sloppy but entertaining. I firmly believe that if Lewis would have continued hitting Vitali with those brutal uppercuts he would have knocked the giant out. I don't think Lewis was in any danger, despite being tired and too heavy for his own good at 256 pounds.

Vitali/Lewis was a great fight
The doctor screwed over Vitali and stopped the fight
Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2....Lewis was hurt and finished at the end of the 6th and collapsed onto his stool.
Vitali would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued
You mean the doctor saved Vitali from being blinded, as per Ring Magazine.
Vitali was not clearly winning the fight because there were only two clear rounds, the second for Vitali and the sixth for Lewis. The referee and doctor were helped in their decision to stop the fight by Lewis' dominant sixth round. Maybe he would have earned himself another round with a better showing.
It was OK, I thought it was too brief and lacked enough graphic drama to be particularly memorable but it was one of the few fights in which Lewis was in peril. That added to it's appeal.
Yes it was a great, and was a great stoppage, stop posting the same repetitive shit in every thread about vitila and lewis, in if lewis had those nasty cuts and lewis was winning on pts you would have agreed with the stoppage, lewis was tired not hurt, lewis wasnt going to be ko,d in the next round, so vitale would have been tko,d or the fight would have been stopped if if the fight went on for a couple more rounds.
What makes me laugh is if the tables were switched and the fight was stopped because Lennox had the cuts to his face, the Vitali fans would justify the stoppage and say the ref did the right thing.
