I know Cotto has a lot of haters or detractors but this question is aimed at his fans and the people who rate him highly.
Who do u think beats cotto? Or even better which fight at WW worrys u the most as a Cotto fan?
A Rematch with the only man to have beaten him and reigning champ Antonio Margarito?
Ageing veteren Shane Mosley who some feel one their first duel?
The super lanky freak of nature Paul Williams who has apparently found his punch?
The Thunderous punching Kermit Cintron?
The Young stud with the fast hands, untested Andre Berto?
Or someone else at the weight, discuss....

Who do u think beats cotto? Or even better which fight at WW worrys u the most as a Cotto fan? Margarito
A Rematch with the only man to have beaten him and reigning champ Antonio Margarito? very very hard to do it for cotto.. due to the size advantage... margo takes 8 of 10 times... only way i can see cotto beating margo is by D.. and he better learn how to clinch
Ageing veteren Shane Mosley who some feel one their first duel? One of my fav all time...a classy guy... great experience for cotto though.
The super lanky freak of nature Paul Williams who has apparently found his punch? If he can make the weight i dont see a problem with that!..I think margarito will beat him in the rematch
The Thunderous punching Kermit Cintron? I havent give up on him yet...I think he needs a better management team.
The Young stud with the fast hands, untested Andre Berto?\
paper champ.... hes as green as his belt...
Or someone else at the weight, discuss....
you mentioned all the worthy one... I cant think of anybody else.. at least right now... :boxing:
nice thread!
Well **** the bandwagon boys, he still has Real fans on here :boxing:
*Raises hands* Here, too.
As stated many times before, a lot of trash-talking goes on, but c'mon...how can you NOT show up on these boards on the day after the fight?
It was absolute mayhem! How many threads started with: "Cotto got whooped/beaten/massacred, etc" after Cotto/Margarito?
I like Cotto, he's exciting to watch. Antonio Margarito won me over as well, he definitely deserves big matches after that impressive performance.
Having said that, I dunno about the match-ups. I certainly hope Cotto isn't notably affected after that fight. But I'll be watching, and Margarito as well...
I dont care who u are Tony Margarito will let u know uve been in a ****in fight! But i honestly see Cotto winning the rematch, he was great first time around but fell short, there was only a round and a half left in the fight remember and Cotto survived all that time with his nose damaged from the second. Injurys are part of the game and Tony did that too him so i cant take that away from him, but imagine Cotto not having that damage inflicted and most importantly Clinching from time to time, run out the clock, catch ur breath and stifle Margs attack all at the same time! Miguel was too proud first time around, he has since been humbled.
The body shots just aint there tho the wont have an effect in a rematch.
He is a smart guy and will know he needs to change a few things slightly, tough fight regardless tho! But Tony is Tony and he cant and wont improve on that performance.
Williams worrys me the most honestly
i wouldnt call myself a fan of cotto but i can answer without bias...
i think the person who would give cotto most problems is margarito due to his chin and fighting style...its too much...for majority of the fighters at 147, 140, and 154.
for cotto to win a rematch against margarito would be probably the hardest win he could ever earn in the ring.
beyond that a floyd mayweather would be cotto's SECOND toughest fight...yes...SECOND...not saying margarito is p4p better than floyd...its just the fighting style...it would be easier on cotto to fight floyd than margarito since floyd isnt as big of a puncher at 147 and due to the fact floyd chooses to BOX cotto rather than hunt him down and pound away like margarito.
outside of those two fighters there isnt anyone i would favor over cotto at this point in time.
at 147
cintron - cotto stops him within 11.
berto - cotto wins a UD
williams - cotto wins a split decision.
cotto is a hybrid (in my opinion) of a crafty boxer (we seen this in the first half of the fight against margarito and in the mosley fight) and a big power puncher...he's one of the premier body punchers of current times and can really put a hurting on you. he's not a one punch knockout artist but over the span of 12 rounds if he gets enough clean punches in he will make you quit.
his biggest flaw is defense (as we seen against margarito) he seemed to not have an answer to keep margarito away...he couldnt tie up on the inside to get a break...he couldnt control the speed of the fight...margarito pretty much determined the pace of the fight after the 6th-7th round.
great post man
Really? Hadnt heard that before about Miguel studing to be a teacher
Well yeah, he started but hasn't finished. I remember when he started boxing as a pro that he took his kids to college with him and everyone in the university would go to his fights etc.
Thats why I admire him as a boxer and as a person. Many boricua fans have already turned their back on him because of the loss to Margo, but I'm a real Cotto fan!!!
that fight was 30years before i was born never seen it so can't respond to that. My point is cotto tried to out skill Marg but could not sustain that due to the pressure and body work marg was landing. In order for cotto to sustain what he did in the first part of the fight he would have to move even more than what he did in the first fight and it would be ugly and i know as much as cotto has a game plan it all changes once you get hit and your natural instincts take over and make you fight back and forget your plan. Cotto was forced to fight back and I feel it would be the same story in the rematch.
you HAVE to watch that fight.essentially what ray did to lamotta that's what cotto tried to do.he pretty much just spent too much of himself in the beginning.ray just tried to throw his jab and let lamotta spend himself.and cotto has always been a decent ring general.just so happens the fights everybody's seen are the one's where as the slightly bigger guy he tried to use that to his advantage.
what do you think of the valentines day massacre? robinson vs lamotta?
was that the stratagy of a bitch?you can't win a fight solely on trying to match wills.that's just dumb.you should know that, you're a fighter.

very well put.a agree with everything you said.

I know some people here will insult me for saying this but the only guy that should scare Cotto in a fight in 147 is called Paul Williams because he has a lil punch, is way taller, he can box, is a lil fast etc. I don't mention Margarito because Cotto already saw (and closely jajajaja) what Tony is about and if he is as intelligent as he is supposed to (he studied to become a teacher), he should already know what to do to beat Tony, that is called: Hit and Run for your life!!!! Arriba Cotto Carajo!!!!!!!!
Really? Hadnt heard that before about Miguel studing to be a teacher
I think cotto can beat margarito in a re-match but it would consist of him hittin and running! So much that it would bring his stock down in the amount of moving he would have to do. Plus he tried that the first fight and didn't really work. I think margarito beats him everytime!!

Was always and always will be a Cotto fan. There's a news update for all of you out there. CLOTTEY is the best welterweight right now. I would be concerned for Cotto fighting Clottey.
Margarito?- with minor adjustments Cotto wins #2
Berto?-he's getting there.
Cintron?-Cotto needs to be carefull 1st three rounds then would dismantle him with superior skills.
Williams?-styles make fights. His length would create a problem for Cotto.
CLOTTEY is durable and relentless. He is getting better and better. Everyone I listed would have problems with Clottey.

Williams, Margarito, and Clottey would give him the most trouble mainly because of their size and strength. I think Cotto has the talent to beat any one of them, but he'll have to be on his A game for sure.
Just one account, I change my username every now and then. Btw, you might be thinking of RiZOOM AKA Rizo (with backwards R), that's someone else.
Yeah think i thought u were all the same guy lol!

There are plenty R I Z O! By the way how many accounts do u got or do u keep changing ur name?

I think Cotto can still hold his own with any WW, cant blame a guy for losing to Margarito, cant blame any WW for losing to Margarito or P. Williams any more then you can blame Margarito or P. Williams for losing to any MW that should be fighting at LH.
