I was reading an old Ring Magazine and they were talking about Floyd's retirement. One if the segments was on his pound-for-pound legitemacy and said he's only beat one sure fire Hall of famer in Oscar and 3 with slim chances to get in the hall of fame (hernandez, castillo, corrales)
First I though that it was a discredit to Floyd because he convincely beat Corrales and while many think Castillo won, he was still mega competitive with a man on top of his game while Floyd sported an injured shoulder to boot.
Mostly I felt disrespected on behalf of Corrales and Castillo (hernandez as well), because of there incredible resumes.
Personally I think Castillo prime for prime would be the best Lightweight not just during his era (which was damn near golden age) but during this era as well (as stacked as it is now), with Corales on Castillo's heels, also factor in Corrales run at 130 and finally, the 2 part battle they had with each other and really I can see how the morons at Ring could think that they both have a "slim" chance.
Lloyd Marshall has wins over Hall of Famers Teddy Yarosz, Charley Burley, Ezzard Charles, Jake LaMotta, Holman Williams, Joey Maxim, and also beat former/future world champions in Ken Overlin, Ceferino Garcia, and Freddie Mills.
And he's not in Canastota.
Go figure.
I don't know of any other fighter who beat the quality of fighters that Marshall did and is not in the IBHOF.
The IBHOF annoys me sometimes.
The major sports (MLB, NFL, NBA) have it all over boxing when it comes to hall of fames.
While Danny Lopez and Lupe Pintor aren't even on the ballot. That is shameful. Check their records if you don't believe me. The HOF is a joke with a strong east coast bias.

why do people take HOF seriously
Barry McGuigan,Gerald McClellan are in there FFS you dont have to be that great to get in it just popular

career wise it can be debated, although they would both get my vote, but for their first fight, MOST DEFINITELY, their first fight is classic hall of fame battle that deserves every right to be in the hall of fame.....
but like i said, their careers could be debated, i think that castillo's record is hall of fame worthy, chico's, yes and no, but i don't want to shit on either man, they're both hall of famers in my book, their first fight was the best fight i've ever been to, it was a great night, a great fight, and one of the most memorable night of my life...........

That's World, not International. It's basically a cheap knockoff. When anyone mentions the HOF they mean Canastota.
Actually Frietas and Casamayor are quality opponents, and no one is pretending we being realistic, but we can agree to disagree, thanks for puttin in your two cents by the way
Agreed. Quality...just not Hall of Fame-type quality.
You're welcome.
Yeah it's not their fault there weren't any guys like Duran but umm...TOO BAD! That doesn't mean that we should just pretend Freitas and Casamayor are as good! They're not...and that's why they probably won't go to the HOF.

You gotta understand, those guys they beat were the best in there division, and the guys they won the belts from were true belt holders with credible records.
Its not there fault that a prime Duran, a prime Leonard, a prime Hearns werent there to fight them, but a prime Frietas, and Casamayor were, and they infact fought competition when they were prime and there lower name opponents all have good records as well.

It's a different HOF.
IBHOF is what people usually talk about when they discuss boxers being inducted into the HOF.

Castillo might be a HOF'er but, honestly, those names listed for both don't do the trick. I mean, belts are nice but anyone can pick one of those up. So it's about who you beat...and I'm not convinced. Although I might vote for JLC.

I feel they are definately great, not even about a Mayweather factor, just cuz of there resume and how it compares to other boxers
Corrales:
IBF Superfeatherweight Champion
WBO Superfeatherweight Champion
WBC Lightweight Champion
WBO Lightweight Champion
The Ring Lightweight Lineal Champion
Beaten:
Roberto Garcia
Joel Casamayor
Jose Luis Castillo
Acelino Frietas
Angel Manfredy
Castillo:
2x WBC Lightweight Champion
The Ring Lightweight Champion
Beaten:
Diego Corrales
Joel Casamayor
Stevie Johnson
Javier Jauregui
Ceasar Bazan
Herman Ngoujo
The only man to look competitive against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
A lot of ppl in the Hall Of Fame have less resumes then this, and most boxers can only dream to have a list like this, you don't have to win 16 titles in 16 weight classes to be great
