A Colombian power puncher who lost two straight... one to a bad fighter in a great, great fight, and then a questionable decision against Vera.
This will be pretty cool for Lopez to get, yet ANOTHER previously highly touted prospect under his belt.
Someone should give this man a title shot at some point. He has been doing the necessary trench work to get one, beating prospect after prospect after prospect.
It'll be sweet to see if Miller is going to be able to become anything, because I think this really is his last shot at it.
Totally agree with that. Any other version of Wright beats Vasquez. Speaking of mysterious fights, you know anything about the suspiciously close first fight between Winky and McKart or the DQ win over McKart? I cant find shit on it, D.
Winky-McKart I was the slick Winky just boxing him...
Winky-McKart II was his guard style, and it was less close.
Winky-McKart III was one of the biggest outclassings of Wright's career, and McKart hit him low so many times that he had 5 points taken off... at that point, McKart just walked off when the referee asked him if he wanted to fight... I think it should have been a RTD or TKO officially, but... whatever, DQ works just the same.
I have 2 and 3 on my computer, but I cannot, for the life of me, find Winky-McKart I.
You know that youtube clip is going to break my heart five different times!
No, to be fair... that was quick and slick Winky Wright, who... IMO, wouldn't have amounted to near as much as he has had he not adopted the style he uses now starting in the Vargas fight.
I think blocking guard Wright would beat Vasquez, because a lot of the knockdowns came when Wright was not covering his face... which is like... never with his new style. Those knockdowns came from flush punches. It is always desirable to have your hands up when you are fighting an absolutely murderous puncher.

Vasquez and Phillips have both had weird carreers. I'd love to know what happened in that fight. Philips having so many fights in Argentina is weird.
HOW COULD A MAN WHO COULD DO THAT AT ONE POINT NOT BECOME A SUPERSTAR? I had boxrec driven mysteries ahahha.
And thanks D, I really enjoy obscure topics anyway. Its alot more interesting than constant blast of Cotto, Mayweather, Margarito and the like.

I REALLY wish someone could tell me what the hell happened in the Julio Cesar Vasquez loss (the first one of his career... and that was his only one in his first 60 fights or so) to Verno Phillips... it was by DQ. What happened with that?
Thanks for engaging me on this thread... Usually these non-mainstream threads have trouble getting people to post, so I'm glad someone did, and I'm really glad it was someone who has an opinion on boxing that I respect.

Philips is a big mystery to me. Baldomir simply got better and more skilled as he got older. He turned pro very quickly. How Philips became a three time champion after those losses is beyond me.

I wonder what the deal is with him then... how does he have all those losses?
You think he might have just been trying to fight the wrong way and did not fight in a manner that utilized his strengths?
There have been a few other people like that... Baldomir, Verno Phillips, etc.
I wish I knew what the story was with this guy, because I'm pretty intrigued.

That is a good one, but David "The Destroyer" has a nice ring to it I gotta say. Whats shocked me about the first time I saw Lopez fight, is I expected a slow plodding fighter. Man oh man, not at all! Come forward southpaw and agile movement, fast hands, good head movement, and he can BANG!

I have never seen him, but I wish I had...
Most of the guys with that many losses usually work their way up with one huge win or something like that.
This guy has seriously been busting out some really good young blood it looks like. That shit is super impressive IMO.
He needs to change his nickname to "Prospect Buster" I've decided... that shit is TIGHT. I'm proud of myself for coming up with that.

I don't know if you have seen Lopez fight D, but if you ever have you probably agree that its crazy that a guy with THAT much skill, who is THAT well rounded, who punches THAT hard has 13 losses on his record. Miller is an alright fighter, but I think Lopez will knock him out. He should take on the winner of Marco Antonio Rubio-Enrique Ornealas with the winner getting a title shot at someone.

Lopez is on a nice streak.Fighting strong.I think he beats Miller up.
Probably right... I still wonder how good Miller is. It looked like he underestimated Woods, and it looked like he got a bad decision against Vera, so... I don't think he is quite as worthless as it seems, but... Lopez will probably win this one. His recent fight record is exemplary.
