Boxing’s ‘gatekeepers’ play a vital role in the sport. They provide a ‘litmus test’ for up-and-coming fighters or can be a ‘tune-up’ for veteran superstars. Gatekeepers also frequently take fights on short notice to salvage big fight cards and make a good living while doing so. They are the unsung heroes of the sport. Here’s my list of boxing’s current best gatekeepers:
Jameel Mccline
Steve Forbes
Zab Judah
Riccardo Mayorga
Howard Eastman
Andrew Golota
Emmanuel Augustus

I think Glenn Johnson is the best gatekeeper, followed by Steve Forbes And Carlos Hernandez.
While I see your point, even though Juarez hasn't beaten that top guy he hasn't really been forced to fight up and coming contenders yet either. He's still getting chances to be a champion. See what I mean?
When he can no longer get the championship fights and falls back a notch or two. Yeah, he'd be close to gatekeeper status.

Your are such a f***ing idiot. Are you a Pavlik fan? Well he was nearly out (almost any other ref would have stopped that fight, thank god he didn't though) and Kelly pulled out a close victory in the rematch. So shit, he must be pretty close to gatekeeper status too.
Jermain's a once removed ex-champ that's 1 fight away from being back in line for a shot at another championship. WHERE DO YOU SEE GATEKEEPER IN THAT?
Was I a Floyd fan? No, not particulary. Was the man pound for pound number 1? Yes, he was. So I can appreciate that.
Think before you talk to me, b****.Thank you, now you got me going, youre upset, whining and complaing like a girl in distress, sign of a floyd fan green karma because you are going through rough times when you read my post, i seen to offended your sensitive ass, NYAHAHAHA, dont take the it out on your mother, You seen to appreciate floyd, :bukkake:i knew it, when i read your post, i knew your kind, im sorry hoe, post again hoe, i love this shit , well talk for hours, youll keep me awake for hours you sensitive girl, im sorry for calling you girl hoe, post again, ill give you some more green , my freind
:Thinkingo damn , you believe a fighter who hasnt even won a real matchup since the dawn of mankind a serious champ, i guess you must be a floyd fan, are you, (please say yes):blow:, you seem to astound me how you proved how his career been blossoming by fight by fight, Jermain probably is a legend in your eyes and p4p staus fighter, thats your gifted ideas

Rizi Riz was the guy who claimed Joshua Clottey was a gatekeeper.
And even worse, Tha greatest said Jermain Taylor was a gatekeeper. :thumbsdow
Eh? Taylor? How in the hell could Taylor possibly be a gatekeeper? He was an undefeated young champion until losing to Pavlik and that's it so far.
Clottey and Taylor as gatekeepers? Them's is some pretty good gatekeepers. They don't even have to face any young guys to prove their gatekeeper status either. Good for them.
:fing02:
Holy crap man! Who the hell said Clottey was anything even close to a gatekeeper? He's the most skilled welter out there at the moment and probably the greatest threat among all the WW's.
I don't think Clottey will become a gatekeeper any time soon either. He's only just won his world title and probably looking at the biggest fights of his career soon. Whoever said he is a gatekeeper is daft. He hasn't even really lost properly yet so how could anyone say he even could be one? He was disqualified in his only other loss apart from the Marg loss which was as much injury as anything. It was a pretty BS DQ as well in Baldomir's hometown and Clottey was beating him handily up until then.

Yes, good point. He has also been able to beat the up and coming guys he's fought so he's not actually at true gatekeeper status yet. I still think Nate Campbell was the best gatekeeper in boxing. Constantly facing the young prospects, but beating them all! :lol1:
Oh okay. Gotcha.
But Clottey at welterweight is a little too elite at this moment in time (even if it's not the complete top of the list elite) to be a gatekeeper.
He could easily become one. But he def is not one right now.

Juarez is what I consider the ultimate gatekeeper and probably one of the best around today. He never loses to contenders but always loses to the top guys in his division. If you beat Juarez you will probably win a title. He also never gets beaten badly by the top guys though it's usually clear who wins.
Juarez is the first guy that came to mind for me.

I think Rocky Juarez is a good gate keeper.

Also Robbie Peden has become a kind of Gatekeeper.
Funnily enough, most people not long ago considered Nate Campbell the main gatekeeper of the lightweight division. Check out his record. He always fought the big prospects coming up. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for him), he always beat the shit out of them!!! :lol1:
Now, he is not considered a gatekeeper of course but not long ago he would have been probably the best gatekeeper in boxing.
so what is he, a serious champ,Hopkins fights were 2 robberies and he practically lost to spinks, he was a idiot with another bad call for winky, he doesnt do well vs big names, hes at gatekeeper status, hes doing worse and worse as time passes
No matter how you saw the fights.....(and no Hopkins did not beat Taylor despite winning big 4 rounds of the first fight)
Is Winky Wright a budding superstar? NO.
Is Bernard Hopkins a young gun? NO.
Even Cory Spinks, who was the junior middle champ when he fought JT, was he a new lion? NO.
Pavlik is about the biggest upstart JT has fought in the last 5-6 fights and Pavlik was already considered a very serious contender when they fought the first time. And it was for the championship.
So who are these prospects that Bad Intentions has been fighting to get the "gatekeeper" status by you?
These guys to be considered "gatekeepers" have to be subjected as stepping stone status by prospects.
The man's last fight was against the Ring Middleweight champion.....yeah, real gatekeeper. :stupid:
