What's the worst performance you've seen from an 'elite' boxer? One in which the fighter let himself down badly. Please, no Jeff Lacy nominations, he was only pretending to be elite.
My nomination is Antonio Tarver vs Bernard Hopkins. What in god's name was Antonio doing? He appeared to decide that throwing punches was an unneccessary luxury for a boxer and that it was enough merely to stare at Bernard over his gloves with the expression of a petulant child on his face. Rubbish.
What's yours?
He wasn't elite but was a World Champion. Clinton Woods against Tarver was ansolutely horrendous, pitiful performance.
That was a miserable performance. After people see Tarver fight Dawson they'll get a better context of how bad Woods really was.
Shane Mosley against Vernon Forrest: the first time, Shane lost 11 rounds. The rematch was closer, but Mosley was so content to hold the whole fight.
Marco Antonio Barrera against Manny Pacquiao: Barrera lost every round in which the ref didn't make a mistake on a KD call, and seemed to want to DQ his way out in rounds 8 and 9.
Felix Trinidad against Winky Wright: Tito got completely schooled, circled the wrong way for much the fight, and lost every round. To make it even worse, he seemed to accept it a few rounds in and looked like he was going through the motions.
Maybe those are a little unfair since Forrest, Wright, and Pacquiao and top-notch fighters.
Maybe Lennox Lewis against Hasim Rahman. Lewis took Rahman lightly, looked lousy the whole fight, and got himself laid the **** out.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, Mosley vs De La Hoya 2 was pretty awful for Shane too. He made a comeback in the later rounds, but here's how the corner went
Jack: "YOU GOTTA THROW MORE SHANE"
Shane: *looks blank*
*Doesn't throw more*
Jack: Throw your right more shane
Shane: But it'll get countered by his left hook!!
mosley vs mayorga...even de la hoya knocked him out in the 6th
A 37 year old who hasn't held a world title in years is not elite. And winning by a KO is hardly a "worst performance". Nice try though. :?!:
Zab against Baldomir. Soon as he got hurt he wanted nothin to do wit Baldomir and just ran around takin shots.
Trinidad sucked against Hopkins and Wright.
Spinks and Taylor were both godawful against each other.
mosley vs mayorga...even de la hoya knocked him out in the 6th
Mosley isn't really elite anymore, although you could make the case for the Vernon Forrest fights. Many thought Mosley was actually number 1 p4p.
Trinidad against Wright was pretty bad. I think he was still 'elite' by then.
Floyd Patterson against Liston twice. Liston against Ali, especially the second time.
Lewis-Rahman I
Holyfield-Moorer I
Tyson-Smith
Toney-Tiberi
What a horrible fight that was.
Tyson didn't perform against Buster Douglas.
Bowe against Golota twice.
Well some would say the weight affected Tarver against Bernard.
I'd say maybe Trinidad against Bernard. I mean he lost pretty much every round and then got knocked out.
