im not tryin to hate but i think shane mosley overrated.. everyone says he's this and that.. he has fought everybody, and beaten some great fighters.. who has beaten? who has he beaten besides oscar de la hoya the 1st time? oscar was robbed in the 2nd match.. he had a long title reign at lightweight which was impressive but who did he beat that was spectacular in that division? besides leija? not all of it was his fault but i dont think he went out of his way to fight guys around his division like a mayweather or even judah.. he skipped 140 altogether, and would of liked to see him at kostya.. at 147 beats oscar, wise (who?), a few other guys and loses twice to vernon forrest.. winky beats him twice.. i would of liked to see a match with mosley vs trinidad at somepoint but unfortunately that never happened.. he beats a shot vargas, puts up a decent fight with cotto, and recently beats mayorga. what are his greatest victories? besides oscar? many people feel he is a great legendary fighter.. i personally dont see it myself.. he is obviously a very good fighter and had amazing physical abilities and crazy hand speed.. drop your thoughts what do you think?
Has Shane Mosley ever definitively beat a great fighter? How about dominated a good fighter?
Shane looks like a god against bustas. Against top-shelf opposition? Not so much.
I'd have to see a list of which of his opponents you think were great. No doubt that many rated Oscar DLH as great when he beat him the first time. He was high on almost every P4P list.
i completely agree with that, people seem to think he is a master boxer, which he is not, speedy slugger is a good description,
I haven't really seen anyone describe Mosley as a master boxer. He is definitely a fighter.
Even if people misunderstand Mosley's style and attributes, it doesn't mean that he is necessarily overrated, but that he is rather being rated wrongly by those who believe he is a master boxer rather than a speedy slugger.
For example a lot of people say that Jake LaMotta is overrated because he isn't the puncher that he is often said to be, but then again he isn't the skilless slugger who eats punches that many say he is either.
Overrated in some ways and underrated in other ways.
Never mind that he admitted that he took the drugs. Let's not allow facts to get in the way.
I take drugs all the time and im cool heheh
nah still dont take away the fact i think the guy is an alright sort
Mosley as a "class act" and "gracious sportsman" is overrated. He may be a nice guy, but he's had his excuses and negative points as many fighters do.
It just shows once again how boxing fans have shit memories.
i beg to differ
Who you referrin to homey? If you mean Marg, he realized after the Mayo fight he had no business gettin loud on him like he had been for the last week or so.
He's always been pretty open down the middle. He had some slick moves in the pocket here and there, but overall, it seemed more of a case of "his offense was his defense".
He tends to get overrated, perhaps because he seems to be a likeable guy. His speed makes people think he's some sort of great pure boxer, but he's more of a speedy slugger than anything. Cotto outboxing and outjabbing him did not surprise me one bit. Mosley had amazing physical gifts IMO.
Overall he's still a certain HOFer who will still go down as a great (I'm guessing the lower end of the top 100).

I wasn't shitting on him. I just think that his defense isn't as great as people make it out to be. He likes to trade punches and win fights with speed and power. He is exciting as hell to watch and only has 3 decision losses. He is a great fighter that deserves to be in the HOF IMO.
Wasn't accusin you in particular homey. My bad if you misinterpreted that. Just sayin one less than stellar night shouldn't draw criticism to his whole career and legacy imo.
a lot of valid criticism from El Dominicano
as much as i like Mosley i have to agree with most of what he says his defence is poor and his ability to adapt in fights is "0"
It's easy to say 'who did he beat except...', you can make just about any resume look bad by doing that.
The fight that made Sugar Shane Mosley.
A lot of fighters have had talent but Mosley put it to use. He has more than just speed and power.
For some reason I always though he had better defense. I think his defense is kind of shitty actually. I haven't followed many of his older fights though. He is a tough fucker with a good chin who likes to fight. He is good at what he does.
I think he is past his prime now and should stop fighting.

Dude gets old and has 1 subpar performance and he's gettin shit on like whoa. SSM won his titles, beat his names, drew his $, had his memorable performances, fought at the top level for many years, and didn't dodge guys even if others did. Always been a class act too. Dude is mos def a great fighter imo.

You are talking about someone whose only losses are decisions to three multiple world champions. You can pick at anyones career and find faults. Mosley is a first ballot hall of famer, and he has had an outstanding career. IMO you are holding him up to unrealistic standards.
