Do British fans overhype their fighters?

I voted no...... Example, I made a thread sometime ago asking who's 0 was next to go? at the time Gavin Rees was undefeated and so many brits mentioned him as the next fighter to lose their 0. I like the brits, they have the BEST boxing personality in the game in Steve Bunce....thats my dude! Bunce was one of Khan's biggest critics too.

I haven't read many posts so I'm not sure if it's been said, but in my opinion it's the people who DON'T know boxing who read the papers and watch the sky tv clips and are sucked into the Great British Media Hype Machine and believe that (a) They know boxing cos they read a couple articles and (b) They believe what the papers say (causing hype + promoting GB boxers = more £££). REAL British boxing fans who know boxing don't hype our boxers to the same level I don't think, not in my experience anyway.

Khan wasn't overhyped by British people. He has been constantly criticised and questioned in this country. He still has unquestionable natural talent. Hes just far too open and wreckless. Hopefully with more seasoning, he can come back. He is supremely naturally talented. Thing is he's fucked. If this was any other sport like imagine if Khan was a footballer he'd be Ronaldo. But he is going to get nailed again and he going get KO'd again the next time he steps up. On a side note I'm sure Wayne Rooney has a good chin, lol.

I think Khan is quite good proof that we don't. Here we have probably the most naturally gifted young prospect we've had in a long time, who won an olympic medal and who the media adore, yet nearly every Brit boxing fan was only too aware of his defensive and punch resistance shortcomings. Many like me, thought he would beat Prescott, many, like me, even thought he would probably go on to win a world title, but few ever claimed he was going to wreak carnage in the LW division and retire as a great.

Khan has heart. He was hurt against Limond and Gomez, came back to win. Was dropped VERY hard by Prescott and was up at 3 and he didn't run, he went right back to fight and got KOd. He has heart, but no chin. He does, it's a shame you can't role Amir Khan and Kevin Mitchell into one fighter, they'd be a world champ for sure. Kevin Mitchell has a classic chin.

We overhype all our sports stars!! all of them. Apart from indoor cycling, we fucking own that sport. Shame nobody really likes it, cares about it or would pay to watch it or endeavor to write about it. Our footballers helped themselves to a sensational 2-0 victory over the mighty Andorrans.

I think they do overrate their guys. In this case they didn't though. Most brits were knocking Khan. I didn't really see anyone hyping him that much. Back to the question though, yeah they hype their guys but so does almost every country. UK is much smaller than lets say USA so they don't have as many prospects so it's easy to get behind the guys that put together a good record. QFT what tis guy said. also brit = scot/wales/england/south ireland.
