If PBF returned and beat Margo, would his greatness be accepted??

Floyd would be critized no matter what he did from here on out. I've been on Boxingscene for a relatively short time, however from lurking, I've pretty much figured out this boards habits. From my observation, No other topic brings out a poster's inner demon on the website than PBF. Why is it that a fighter who is a natural 130-35lber still made to prove himself, and seal his legacy by endlessly competing in his last division as if he started out anywhere near weightclass, against people who at any given time can outweight him by 30lbs? Why do people ignore the fact that PBF was approaching his 3rd decade of being a world champion? Why do the mid 90s, the lates 90s, early 2000's, and mid-2000's gets ignored, while the late 2000's gets all the focus. Why do people ignore the fact that PBF beat the guy who actually ruled the WW division (Zab), and Baldimir, that guy beat Zab? Didn't he just ko the 140lbs linear champion, what about dela hoya, 154 champion? He beat 4 world champions in his last 4 fights, yet he has to clear out the WW division to get props. If Floyd cleared out the division and beat Manny, I wouldn't be suprised if folk brought up pavliks name into the mix. Floyd's confidence and position effects alot of peoples self image and they can't stand it. It has little to do with his style, the folks he 'ducked', or even his persona. PBF is the best at what many believe to be the most fundamental test of manhood, 'l can beat your ass and you can't do shit about it', and is a representative of a group of people, who many posters think of as being lesser than themselves. Floyd existence/superior status as the P4P king of boxing throws what they've been taught on it's head and his refusal to be meek adds salt to the wound. I appreciate his achievements and only time will judge his greatness, not you and I! There is not that many fighters that could have done what PBF has achieved. The guys you all throw out there are laughable!

you forget the size of Williams when posting this comment. If Margarito had Hattons foot speed then I would give him a great chance at beating Mayweather otherwise his hands and feet are just too slow.

I was thinking if "money may" came back and stopped Margarito or UD, would he still be criticized for his lack of fighting the best names??? Me personally I would love to see him clear out the welterweight division but if he destroyed and dominated Margo and retired I would be content more then if he didn't fight Margo at all. Those types of tipics were made to exhaustion for the Castillo 2, Baldomir, DLH and Hatton fights and those are the ones i remember.

Arum knows what woulda happened if he put Marg in the ring with Floyd. Floyd crushed Baldomir. Why would Baldomir Jr. give Floyd any more trouble? If you think Baldomir was the same level as Margarito, you really need to buy a clue.

i honestly think he needs at LEAST one more big win. ODLH was big name but he was out of his prime. Hatton was not very memorable. PBF should take the fight and prove all the haters wrong....or right haha. But hey, maybe im a little biased because of how much i want to see this happen.

Antonio Margarito is trash! Since when does somebody get their legacy sealed by beating margarito, in that case Paul Williams already sealed his then...you Margo fans are pathetic. Floyd would have to beat, Oscar De La Hoya rematch, Shane Mosley, Cotto, and last but not least Manny Pacquiao. Then he may be considered the best p4p and his legacy surely would be sealed The guy you're calling trash has been ducked by DLH, turned down on several occasions by Mosley, knocked Cotto out, and would decapitate Pacquiao. Maybe you don't like him and he may not have the skills that you consider an a top notch boxer, but his resume says otherwise, and he would be a danger to anybody in the ring, far from trash.

So, basically, Mayweather would have to beat both Margarito and Williams. nah, I think Tony will beat Paul in early 09, and that would leave floyd with the option of fighting whoever the other top dog is and erasing all doubt of his greatness. To me he doesn't even have to fight Margarito necessarily, if he came back this year and fought Williams in december or something I would give him mad props, but I think since the welterweight picture doesn't have an established king he would have to beat a couple of guys. If Margarito beats Clottey in November and then Williams in 09 and then Floyd beats him, then in that ciscumstance he could claim to beat the top welter and beat the toughest guy. Same if Williams beats Tony. I don't want to downplay what Floyd did do in his career, but I just think that him beating the top welter/s at this point is something doeable, that he should have tried, that would have put him on a whole other level, but it was very risky and he didn't even try.

Floyd would take Tony to school and I like Tony. It's true Floyd was an underachiever in the last stages of his career, but he still did more than 99 percent of the rest, especially in the lower weight classes. He gets shit on now, but in time, he will be looked upon in a favorable light.
