and they where talking about roy vs holyfield;then some guy thought that if roy came in at 188 he'd be affective against heavys, my question is, do you need to be over 200 to fight heavy?
There's a video of Jones stepping on the scale that says 200 pounds when weighing himself after the weigh in. It's weird. It's not like he rehydrated 7 pounds so why the difference?
cool, but i wonder why the hell that guy pulled that out his ass?he talked about joe louis vs billy conn, how conn came in at 169 and joe was about 205.
Yeah, and the Pittsburgh Kid (in my avatar) had the fight won, but couldn't stay away in the 13th, when Louis finally caught him and got the knockout. WWII delayed the rematch for five years, and by that time Billy just wasn't the same fighter. Can't think of many other fighters who could give that kind of weight differential away to a guy of Louis' caliber and still be competitive.
No, Roy came in at 193 against Ruiz and won the WBA Heavyweight title.
Yeah but the weight rule was 190+ that time. I think like two years later they moved the HW division up 10 pounds.
Tommy Burns, who Jack Johnson won the title from, was 5'7", 168lbs. Unless the rules have changed drastically since then. Ray Robinson was 144 lbs for his first fight against LaMotta at MW. I'm not really sure there's a minimum for any weight class.
Yeah it's a mandatory rule. Or at least that's what it says if you wanna fight for the 4 major ABC orgs.
