Paul Williams-Luis Collazo being discussed for 11/29 HBO BAD

Promoter Dan Goossen and HBO continue working on a Nov. 29 card that will feature welterweight titlist Paul Williams in the main event and rising heavyweight contender Cristobal Arreola in the co-feature. Goossen told ESPN.com his first choice is to match Williams with ex-titleholder Luis Collazo, and that he is talking to Don King, Collazo's promoter. Money is tight on the lower-budget show, so it remains to be seen if Collazo will take the fight. Goossen attempted to match Arreola with ex-champ Hasim Rahman, but "that's not happening. It was just too much money to make it. They were looking for an unrealistic number." From Dan Rafael. Should be a good match up since I want to see Williams against a mover. It's like a 5'9 quintana. In other news: Mijares-Darchinyan probably won't happen November 15th on the undercard of Taylor-Lacy because Dibella already has Cintron and Whiterspoon on the undercard. Hopefully HBO doesn't want to televise either of them and Dibella will match Mijares up with Darchinyan. Come on Dibella/HBO make this fight happen in november already.

Come on Dibella/HBO make this fight happen in november already. :rofl: I am predicting another title defense attempt where Williams loses the belt. Collazo should come very hungry. Should be a good fight.

I think Collazo is ranked #1 by the WBA for whatever reason. He definitely has some options on who he faces. no it's the wbc http://wbcboxing.com/WBCboxing/Portal/cfpages/contentmgr.cfm?docId=101&docTipo=4&orderby=docid&sortby=ASC I dunno if Luis's options are as great as they seem, heck look at who he fought in his comeback fight on the Jones/Trinidad under card and as it sits right now he's still on the look for an opponent. **maybe being a sparing partner will give him an edge in a fight vs Williams. and one would thing that Berto might have to face his mandatory (Collazo) or get stripped, a la Mayweather. if Forbes is a voluntary defense, then isn't Berto required to face his mandatory in a given amount of time. and besides unless it's Zab Judah .. who else do you see Berto facing after Steve Forbes? Margarito or Cotto? i don't think so, he's 24 DiBella might see Collazo/Berto as a good alternate.

I'd be surprised if he fights a tuneup. Don King doesn't usually give his fighters tuneups, he just leaves them inactive for long periods of time, and then throws them into a title fight. no i tqlked to him too. the tuneup is supposed to be on the undercard of mayorga-mosley. thats why i thought the p-williams thing was odd. they already tried to make this fight for BAD a while back but HBO offered very little so both fighters agreed it wasn't worth the risk when there was little reward to be had....

so then waiting out for the Berto/Forbes winner in 2009 might be the better option for Collazo, not to mention more winnable. (and since Luis is ranked #1 by WBC why not sit that out, till it's mandated that he get a title shot?) oppose to facing Williams for a smaller purse. so Margarito-Clottey is official? should be a good scrap, and it does officially unify 1/2 the belts. not all that bad. Not necessarily. I don't think he would make as much money from Berto and the reward wouldn't propel him into that big of a situation. If Collazo beats Williams right now his stock goes SOARING. I think it's pretty even and Williams is willing to give him a title shot. You never know with the WBC either. They might not force Berto to fight him.

Collazo is Williams sparring partner, wonder if Paul hurt him as well sparring?:rofl: I was under the impression they were each others sparring partner. As in neither is really the others sparring partner, they are just two boxers sparring, helping each other out. Either way this would be a very interesting fight. Id love to see it, both guys deserve a good fight and cant seem to find one.

He'll only face Michael Jennings if Collazo doesn't agree to the low money he's going to make. The HBO budget is really limited right now because they blew all their cash. So they don't really have that much more room for bouts unless the fighters agree to making shit. Also Margarito is fighting someone he already beat and turned down 4 million dollars. I'm not saying he ducked Williams because we get two good fights this way, but I think it's somewhat a loser game. so then waiting out for the Berto/Forbes winner in 2009 might be the better option for Collazo, not to mention more winnable. No, it's even better because he's actually facing his mandatory, Michael Jennings which he has zero chance of losing. Williams still has nightmares after losing to Quintana - a fight where 90% of the boxing world picked him to steamroll poor Carlos but yet managed to look like an amateur enroute to a boxing lesson and a lopsided decision loss.

Wow really? I got the same information from a recent article. He said he will have a tuneup, try to fight Berto and if that doesn't work out, he might retire. yea , i saw him spar and he looked real good.. imma ask him about pwill if i see him this week
