How in the world is he underrated when alot of people have him in the top 10, and in the top 3 at least, at multiple weights? Some have him beating Marciano, Tyson, Ali, its crazy.
u are assuming that nobody had the ability to make him fight off the ropes in his prime and to an extent u are right but only because he did not face a lot of fighters he should have
Roy was not unbeatable in the 90's he struggled against cagey fighters epecially cagey leftys ,okay he did not struggle with Del Valle but he was decked in that fight and whether u believe he was prime or not he struggled with Tarver's cagey southpaw counter punching style as he did with Harmon another cagey counter punching lefty and he struggled with the cagey orthadox counter puncher in Montell Griffin who was outboxing him untill the knockdowns i know Collins and Benn are not cagey fighters but when u look at Roy's game as a whole u can see he had flaws that could have been capatalised on by top fighters
bottom line the guy was not unbeatable in the 90's well he never proved he was anyway he looked it though i must admit but it is not gospel that he would of beaten all these top fighters had he faced them
BTW he did not look to hot against Sugar Boy Malinga either untill the KO i know Roy won against Malinga ,Griffin ,Harmon ,Dell Valle but that is like me saying Naz beat Kelly ,Boom Boom Johnson ,Sanchez ,by brutal KO's and showed no weakness doing it
This post lacks cohesion. Roy Jones was not unbeatable in the '90s sounds ridiculous because 1. Save for a DQ, he WAS unbeaten in the 90's and 2. So he wasn't unbeatable...AND?
Who is?
Is this the standard we hold him to now? And if so, I'd say one DQ in ten years while winning six titles through three divisions and ranking atop the sport means he damn near held up to that standard.
You pointed out Jones struggling with Malinga, I think perhaps we're seeing a different fight. I suppose he struggled with Virgil Hill too? Really, what point are you trying to make.
What's happened in the past has happened. Assumptions are all you're giving but there isn't a fighter who matched Jones' resume and performance in that decade. Try again.
I agree with this, he was just a boxer FFS! Obviously, he was an exceptionally excellent one, but too many people literally believe he could not be beaten and would KO everyone in 3. Jones had trouble with quite a few opponents, and went 12 with even more. At LHW, he wasn't even that hard of a puncher!
I'd have liked to have seen him in with Benn more than anyone else.
who do you think had a better resume, Jones or Calzaghe?
top 10 is going too far. top 50 isn't in my opinion. I think Bert Sugar underrated him when he put him at 84 in his top 100. I think he deserves better than that.
lol i woudnt say 35.. against trinidad i would say he was 50. against johnson and tarver would say 25 lol. jut gonna hav t see what he brings against cazaghe. tbh i think evn if jones comes 50% of the fighter he was, he should have an easy night vs calzaghe
He was about 50 against Johnson and Tarver and 35 against Trinidad IMO. You have to remember the level of opposition that he was facing. Tarver and Johnson were both natural top 10 light heavyweights and very good champions at the time. Trinidad did not fight in 2 years, had lost in his last fight by a boxing master piece to Wright and was fighting at light heavyweight. Not only that but he was also shot. Tarver and Johnson were at the peak of their primes.
Definitely not underrated. I think he gets the credit he deserves especially by his fans. I was watching ESPN classic last year and where they were doing a special on the top 20 greatest fighters of all time. They had Jones at around 18(and i disagreed strongly) so he is definitely not underrated at all. I must admit that skillwise, he would have to number 1 or 2. He was what some all timers call ''dazingly brilliant''.
I don't even think hes that much of what he use to be. I'd say around 35 percent.

I don't know if this was posted already by someone else..
I didn't read thru 6 pages of results..
All I know is, Ricky posted this video so that if Calzaghe Beats Jones, he can have an orgasm and give Calzaghe all credit..
Roy is 50 percent of the fighter he used to be.

Also Jones never ever looked comfortable on the ropes even back when he fought Hopkins he looked out of his comfort zone on the ropes and he has never had the ability to tie his man up it would have been interesting to see how he would have coped with a aggressive fighters like Benn & Collins and a slick Lefty like Nunn who had quick hands and was a good counter puncher
Nunn
Benn
Collins
are the fights i would have liked to have seen him in
Jones offered Liles, Benn and Collins 7 figures to fight him back in 96. they all turned him down, and Liles had never received a 7 figure payday back then
The Official "Guled" getting owned section!
As the thread I made got deleted (some reason you can't made threads when you disagree with what someone is doing/saying), It shall be posted in this section
Threads Guled made trying to discredit Calzaghe

More getting :owned:
100% hyping Calzaghe up for sure, If Jones losing they will say Calzaghe beat a top 10 ATG
They already claiming P4P Best is Calzaghe and pacman beats bums
Jones is my second favourite fighter after Calzaghe.
Prime Jones beats Calzaghe.
Todays Jones doesn't.
Jones is one of my All time fav fighters.
He is a different man now though
He lost to Tarver, Johnson, Tarver in a row. No, I do not think he is underrated. And that was at the age Calzaghe is now. In that time frame Calzaghe was beating Hopkins and Kessler, who are both better fighters than Tarver and Johnson.
There's losing and avenging your losses, but then there's losing and losing again. Jones was a great. Not no more.
your comparing joe staying stagnet at ONE weight... then moving up 7 pounds to fight someone whose 43....
to a guy that fought at heavyweight, and dropped 25 pounds at 35 years old ... and you think is a reasonable comparison?
and do you also think if roy had stayed at LHW and never went to HW that it would still be the same outcome...
theres excuses, and theres reasons.... losing 25 pounds of muscle, is an actual reason.. if youve ever had to do it yourself.
You know anything about those 7 PMs?
I don't
Yea I sent them to him about a day ago, as he was trying to avoid a thread which he made but got run out of, he just avoided the posts.
His guy is not denying that he sent me 7 private messages; you have owned yourself in this thread.I am not and can’t do anything. But this isn’t NSB worthy
lmao how?? don't try to turn this boy lol.
And your blatent, Calzaghe hating threads are, 1 OK, but thats all you post. And You trying to get it moved because you don't want everyone to see you getting owned lmao, sad
I think sometimes people get unique styles and appeal mixed up with greatness. Roy Jones was special and his style gave a lot of people trouble and is one of my all time favourites. However, just look at his resume and then you will find out how he can't be a top 10 ATG. Most of his resume is padded out with people who made him look good. There are a few great wins in there like the James Toney, maybe even counting a young Bernard Hopkins. But he didn't fight enough top competition for me to be a top 10 ATG.
.......good post
