Margarito will not excel NORTH of 147

From watching him what skills does he have really? I dont want to come off as a hater but his toughness is what gets him through fights. P4P, weight being equal who would you pick in a fight between Margarito & Toney? Toney would smash Margarito, it would look like Toney v Jirov. Thats all I'm saying. Sugar Ray was so great that they made up pound for pound. Just saying taht even tho he was not expected to, if he was in a different weight class he would still dominate. Also, I can name more than 20 boxers that have more skill than Margarito. that's why i said if you go strictly by skill regardless of weight margarito probably doesn't make the pound 4 pound list. but then again paquiao is not the most skilled fighter either but at the end of the night he gets it done and i think that's what gets margarito on. Skills alone dont win fights so you have to put that into consideration as well. P4P is an imaginary list anyways it's all opinionated!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. We have to different interpertations. To me, pound 4 pound means all things being equal. Thats says to me, regardless of weight, Margaritos skills would still be great. I dont see it that way. ok so you're saying margarito shouldn't be on there because he wouldnt be able to move up in weight? Is there ten boxers that are more skilled than margarito? certainly! Is there ten boxers that have all the other intangibles that he does? I don't know. I think he deserves to be on the list. how high? now that's a different question. Especially if you're going by skill regardless of weight class.

It seems people have missed the meaning of "POUND FOR POUND" I will put all my points on it right now that I'm right on the subject. The shit has become so jaded that people dont remember what the original meaning behind it was. Pound for pound means skill regardless of weight. I have always looked at it like this. I think most people do.

He ain't great now, he's just tough as fuck. And I could see him winnin some belts at 154 eventually. Any higher than that is a mistake tho. No need for him to move up now anyway.

P4P was made to place Sugar Ray Robinsons place in the sport. P4P means, (regardless of weight) your skill set would be great in any given weight class. Just because the list has gone away from that in recent years doesnt change the fact that fighters like Margarito, Cotto, & Hatton should not be on that list. Yes P4P was based on a mythical stand point, with that being said if a fighter goes up in weight & gets rolled over, he by definition is not P4P worthy. i've never seen the p4p rankings as people that can move up in weight and win. P4P is a list of fighters by skill with out the division rankings. Kind of like an overall rating of their skills.

Margarito is a GREAT welterweight. His size, will and strength are his main advantages over most other welters. However, the few times Margarito has fought guys that are near his size he has looked very, very average. Daniel Santos. Joshua Clottey. Paul Williams. Those are all fighters that had GREAT success w/Margarito. Why? They are big, natural welters or jr. middleweights. Margarito will continue to beatdown the smallish welters like cotto, judah, johnson, etc... If Margarito ever leaves 147, I believe that will be the end of his days as a "great fighter". do you not know margarito already fought one of the harder hitting 154 guys in santos and took all of santos best shots? Who would be a big threat to him at 154 dlh? Don't you dare say the new champ mora as Mora used to be nothing more but a sparring partner for margarito and would get hammered during some pretty competitive sparring and would get hammered in a real fight as well. There is no big threats really. You can make a decent case for Sergei Dzindziruk who destroyed Daniel Santos but eh you know! I think he'd be good at 154 but what you say is pointless since no one is at 154 worth fighting. If you havent heard the 147 division is smoking and lots of money is being made there.

I think Oscar is the best puncher on that list, at 154 I give him a better chance against Margarito. Being a big puncher isn't the key to beating Margarito. Having bad stamina kinda hurts too.

154 is still IMO one of the weaker weight classes. sure there's Forest, DLH, Mora, Santos, Phillips, Spinks but for the most part I think Margarito could hold his own as the division isn't loaded with devastating punchers. Yeah 147 is his ticket, I don't think he does well at 154 and up.
