I'm thinking this could possibly be a good thing for boxing. Best case scenario(albeit highly unlikely)....Pac dominates and KO's Oscar in an exciting fight or atleast gets a clear win. Then the #1 PFP whos an exciting, active fighter gets a huge upset and beats the most well known fighter in boxing. Only good things can come from that for the sport of boxing as a whole.
Worst case... Pac takes horrible punishment, runs for a few rounds then Oscar brutally KO's him. Pac is never the same fighter again...
I don't see what Oscar is gaining from this though, even if he wins people will call him a bully.
I have a hunch he won't win though. Pacquiao is just to determined and a better boxer these days than De La hoya.
Goodbye Manny, not only there's a chance that he will recieve a career ending KO, but also if he survives/wins, all that money he will make will make him retire. Who would wanna fight for 2-3 million after recieving 15 million?
This will be both fighter's last fight....win or lose.
He will fight Hatton and get another big Payday
oscar is a businessman
This fight will do a good 650,000 buys
Oscar and Manny will do a 12 city world tour again pre fight.
If the fight gets signed fast then the following week they will set up a city for city tour and then oscar and manny will go on talkshows.
Manny will look out of place while the elitist white talk show hosts treat him like a lower level immigrant because of his accent and ricebowl haircut and mustache.
So the mainstream whites will automatically think Kick this immigrants butt.
The funny thing is Pacman is the real true hero but he will be the heel to the americans who know jack shit about him and see him for the first time ever.
Oscar will make pacman the villain and all the casual fans will buy into it when Oscar Savagely almost kills pacman in the ring.
650k buys?
you're tripping domain.
it'll do double that.
it'd do close to 2 million if only the economy wasn't so bad. right now i say it does 1m buys or so.

eh I'd have to think more then 650,000 .. your underestimating the casual fans who dunno shit about the sport that'll just pile on as the fight builds closer.
the heel? what is this pro wrestling? I know Oscar's pushing this "it's personal" agenda .. but how many actually buy into it?
personally, that ^ turns me off the fight THAT much more. "It's personal" .. right I know Oscar's a business man but he's gotta try a bit harder to make up a more legit reason than that.
Don't like this fight at all. I know why Oscar is taking it, he wants to go out by beating the pound 4 pound champ. The fight will be financially successful but the not the fight that fans of his want to see.
Oscar by systematic beatdown with Roach waiving the white flag. Oscar will go out as beating the lb 4 lb champ and thats hard to resist if you are Oscar.
That's my only interest in the fight, to be honest.
not if Manny can overcome the weight difference & pull out a W
but how many PPV's can Oscar sucker the fans out of, as he's still the biggest name in the sport.

$15-20 million is hard to resist for manny.
it'll be hard to resist for most everyone......

That would be the most ironic thing ever! The mexicutioner avenging chavez... that is the shit!!! :439:
vargas and chavez is gonna be in manny's corner. they're gonna walk him to the ring. :D
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Top Rank's Bob Arum met Wednesday and formally opened negotiations for a Dec. 6 megafight between Oscar De La Hoya, boxing's biggest star, and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao has moved up through the weight classes through the years, including winning a championship in his fifth division June 28.
Schaefer hosted Arum for more than two hours at the Golden Boy offices in Los Angeles to talk over a host of issues related to a fight that would take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and certainly be the year's biggest fight if it is made.
"We met and there are some issues, but it was a good meeting," Schaefer told ESPN.com on Wednesday night. "I think what it will take is for Manny to give and for Oscar to give to get a deal done. That's pretty much what it is. But the fact that we had a two hour-plus meeting is obviously a good sign. If it had been a five-minute meeting it would indicate the gaps are too big.
"What Bob needs to do is talk to Manny and I need to talk to Oscar. I'm going to talk to Oscar face to face when he comes to Los Angeles next week. But this was a good first step. We had a very good, a very cordial meeting. We talked about a lot of things," Schaefer said.
Arum told ESPN.com, "We had a nice meeting, a very productive meeting. Richard is going to talk further with Oscar next week. Manny is going to Beijing for the Olympics and I will talk to him soon. Richard and I can make a deal, but we are not the guys doing the fighting. It's going to be up to the fighters. There will have to be movement on both sides. Hopefully, there will be movement. We want to make a deal, Richard and I. Whether it can be made or not, I don't know. It will take give and take on both sides, like in any negotiation."
Although there are issues on the table such as the precise weight limit and brand of gloves the fighters would wear, Schaefer and Arum agreed those would be easily solved. The crux of the negotiation will come down to the percentage split of the revenue.
"I can say without any question none of that will be a problem, weight or gloves," Arum said. "We are working essentially on the split."
"If both guys are willing to give, Bob and I have laid the foundation and the groundwork under which a deal can be done," Schaefer said.

Oscar De La Hoya weighs 150 pounds, but for the fight he might come down to the welterweight limit of 147.
De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs), who easily outpointed Steve Forbes on May 3 but took a lot of flush punches from the smaller man, weighed 150 pounds. Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach want him to come down to the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs), who began his career at 106 pounds, has steadily moved up through the weight classes through the years, including winning a championship in his fifth division June 28 when he wiped out David Diaz in nine brutally one-sided rounds to win a lightweight belt and cement his place as the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter in the sport.
Arum said that the possibility of welterweight champion Antonio Margarito facing De La Hoya also came up in the meeting as an alternative plan. Margarito ruined Miguel Cotto's chance to face De La Hoya when he stopped him July 26. Now, Margarito wants his shot at De La Hoya.
"Antonio is still out there and hasn't been totally rejected by the De La Hoya people," Arum said. "It came up, but Richard has to sit with Oscar and see what he wants to do."
Schaefer was not as upbeat about a fight with Margarito.
"I think Margarito has some other things planned," he said. "I think he should go fight Paul Williams."
