I never heard it before, but even Stewart said Cotto himself stopped the fight by telling his corner he was done. As he's getting up from the second knockdown, he shakes his head to his corner as if to say get me out of here. I don't care that he quit, but there was a big debate here about it, and it's pretty clear he wanted out. Hard to blame him since he wasn't going to win, but the bottom line is he did quit. That's all.
Whats more embarrsing is your name, that is really embarrasing. Lets see how many dominicans are up there in the boxing world at this moment, none, not even guzman, and he is really good, yet he is not even recognized as high profile as Cotto, so stfu tigre.
you are an idiot!!!
cotto is a fraud and has been exposed!!!!
guzman is an elite level fighter that is being ducked by absolutley everyone!!!!! that bum manny pac is terrified of him!!!
I'm sure that Cotto will make a good comeback and will erase this embarrassment. Other fighters have done it.

yes he will. miguel is a warrior.
It is embarrassing for Miguel. Many people will always look at him as a quitter.

Just saw the fight for the fifth time. Cotto looked towards his corner, and shook his head, basically saying "I'm done". No hate. Just calling it how I see it.
Jeebus, some of the shots that Margarito took. Amazing.

From my ringside view it seemed to me he did quit
Yeah, I agree.
Not to mention he took 8 steps backward and sat down without a punch being landed.

i agree with all of you!!! cotto quit!!!
cotto got beaten so bad by margarito, that it turned him into a fraidy cat!!
I don't think he quit, I think he expended too much energy. he outworked himself with all that jumping around and back peddling. he brought a defensive game plan to the fight when in reality he needed a smarter offensive game plan. I say these things because as a whole it contributed to Cotto's poor performance later on. he got hit with most of those punches on the ropes, when in the middle of the ring he out boxed Margarito but when trapped he got murked and he made the mistake Taylor made of fighting back on the ropes instead of trying to get out of them and center it again.
you might ask yourself what does this have to do with him quitting or not, I'll tell you, the thing is when Cotto took those knees he needed those breaks, he needed to gather himself again because he got hit pretty ugly. all in all the fatigue on top of the physical damage Cotto was just spent. he had no more gas at that point and he was buying himself time, the 2nd knockdown was more like a collapse because he was really that gassed. in the end his trainer steps up to stop it AFTER Cotto is up on his feet. the eye contact only says Miguel wasn't going to cry about it, if his camp felt it was over then the fight is already lost so he just took it in stride but as for HIM, he got up, he was on his feet and DIDN'T allow himself to be counted out, a quitter QUITS they don't rise up from a count after all that pain. Cotto is a warrior and he took his defeat like a man, his corner stopped it and he didn't complain, thats not his job, he did his job by getting up it's just the corner did their's by stopping the fight plain and simple, the man didn't quit. Freitas Quit, Duran Quit not Cotto though, he fought it out so say what you will, the proof is in the pudding, play the fight backl and you'll see Cotto was still throwing at the end he just didn't have the strength to hold himself up but HE TRIED..
this post ain't no dickrider shit but it's to let you know Cotto didn't quit, he didn't allow himself to lose but when the corner stepped up and he walked off it's because he knew if his corner isn't feelin it, his people of support and needs feel like they actually have to stop it, Cotto ain't gonna fight that. I know a lot of fighters personally, I be on and off this board a lot but I know people and I got people whom were close to Cotto coming up all the way until this very second and I know in truth Cotto confides in his camp. he doesn't ever say "I", he always says "We" and refers to those in his corner so if they felt it was best to stop it, if as a whole his corner all thought it was over ME knowing what I know about these guys I'm not surprised to see Cotto go out easily, he trusts them , he was spent, he WOULDVE kept fighting but his corner thought it was enough and the man trusts his camp, he didn't make it hard. you can't blame him for that, the better man for that night won but it's not right to kick Miguel while he is down. it's xtremely hard for a fighter to cope with his 1st defeat, it either makes you or breaks you and for Miguel he has a lot on his plate, he now has a point to prove, he now has to go and show the world he is for real. the hatin ain't necessary, no fanboy or no dickriding shit here from me neither it's just real talk.. 100

Good post. "Quit" seems kinda open to interpretation. Did he stop fightin when the fight was still winnable? No. Did he get whomped until he had nothin left? Yes. Some have made it sound like he gave up as soon as he had a few tough rds, but he threw all he could at Tony before he got KTFO.

yeah man, i wonder is any other guy at 47 could have taken all those shots from cottto. fucking war!! love it.

yeah i guess so. if thats embarrasing i feel really bad for the guy who never had the balls to even bother to get in the ring with either tony or cotto! people will always look at him as a scared little ducker!!!!!!!
que loco??!? backing up all the way to another corner and taking a seat without a punch being landed by Margarito sure does mean that hes OK! .....papi dont be so stupid...
Who knows maybe he was trying to catch a breather and stop the barrage of punches and thought he'd be able to continue.. You don't know what he was thinking. If it was that bad he would of took a dive like Cintron did.
From what I seen was that he shook his head that hes ok. Either way his corner or the ref should have stopped the fight. That's what they're there for.
