there is a vey small chance that Floyd really made that kinf of money, but it is not impossible. 10x returns (from legal investments) are in the realm of hedge funds bordering on venture capital. Those are extremely risky, the former by design, the latter by nature of the underlying investments. In any case if he doesnt take more conservative positions one day risk will probably catch up with him (hedge funds have a short lifespan for example). Investments in growing countries have high returns and are not that risky if you have the appropariate connections (ie: local organized crime) Anyway if I had to bet between TRUE and BULLSHIT, I'd take bullshit. Venture capital is the only way, Hedge funds don't bring back that kind of investment and you aren't going to find to many spots allowing you to throw in 50 million that much at once could seriously rock the boat. Even so being in venture capital and making 900 million is ridiculous, especially since we know he was have a hard financial time in 05.
