Ok, so I'm here eating my dinner while watching the Cotto-Marg fight, and as I'm eating and looking back and forth, not too focused though on the fight, more on my food :D Alls I hear every second out of Lampley's mouth is, Cotto...Cotto...Cotto. I mean it got digusting hearing it nonstop. It nearly ruined my appetite! The amount of nut hugging he did was astonishing and the only time he mentioned Margarito was either that he took a shot or he just keeps throwing. Never mentioning actual blows by Margarito, and any damage he was inflicting on Cotto. Now obviously I'm a huge Cotto fan, but far from biased and this kind of shit pisses me off. It's not the first time he's done it either and for the most part his blow by blows are waaay off where he sees punches landed that are completely air. I never have a problem with Merchant or Kellerman even with all you whiners bickering about something smart they said. If anything I find myself always complaining about shit Lampley says and this fight he was a disgrace. :grumble:
am i the only one that finds the reason kept yelling cotto for the first half of the fight, is because thats WHO WAS LANDING ALL THE PUNCHES...
all the clean visible noticeable punches were landed by cotto the first half...
obviously margarito completely broke him down... but i felt he called the fight as it was happening... when margarito would land a good clean punch or combo, he would say it
Have you ever heard Raul Marquez on HBO Latino? I think he is pretty good as well...
Yeah, he does a great job and I'm rooting for him in his next fight:boxing:
Lampley is such a joto for Cotto. Margarito was hammering away at Cotto just before he went down the first time but Lampley was still busy talking about the "perception" that Margarito was winning the fight based on facial "expressions" and their demeanors. Lampley ruined the excitement of this fight, the Azteca broadcast is a helluva lot more entertaining. "El welter es de Mexico! El Welter es de Mexico!"

And not to belabor the point but Lampley choked up it seemed more to me as an emotional burst related to bxing as a whole, to go along with the blood n guts in the aforementioned post as well as his internal hurting for HBO's camera man. I seriously doubt there was anything nefarious or underhanded about Lamps getting teary eyed.
Lampley has always been biased to fighters he's liked, but this isn't to say he does a bad job. He's as human as anyone and there is no one I can think of better in all of sports who calls a better event. Without Lampley's voice and his dramatic style HBO wouldn't get a penny out of me. He alone is the sole reason I subscribe.
It's also worth noting that while he has demonstrated bias to one fighter or another, he has never just flat out favored a fighter without merit and rarely has shown a favoritism for the sake of showing it. Even Roy Jones earned Jim's ire when he punched Griffin on the canvas.
Throughout his entire HBO boxing broadcasting career he has always shown favor for the "gutsy" type of fighter. Gatti, Holyfield etc. Guys who take chances and show they want to fight; in this case Cotto was no different, he'd shown a history of fighting with passion and Lampley obviously appreciated that.
Although I was disappointed about the accusations of domestic battery by his former girlfriend and while I think he is an asshole of a person I think Lampley is one of the best boxing commentators today.
Jim Lampley is the best!
They should get rid of Max Kellerman. He adds NOTHING positive or good to the broadcasts, and his voice and comments are annoying.
Couldn't agree more.
I wonder if he had a wager going on...and wanted to influence the judges..because he is so loud that they can hear him..remember when gayweather was answering his question while fighting bruseles...i think lampley lost big dough that night...that is why he was crying...
Thankfully there is no chance that even two of the three judges could have heard Lampley.
Lampley was awful, I agree. There was even a point where Margarito landed 5 punches in a corner, then seconds later he said something like, "Cotto still landing flush shots, but Margarito isnt landing anything. Will the judges score for pressure?"
He had a horrible night. I didnt think it was that bad until I watched it again. Kellerman and Steward wer eon point though.
That said, I wouldnt trade him in for any other commentator. Maybe Gus Johnson. Lampley catches the excitement like nobody else, and his good moments outshine the bias ones.
Not just that, there were moments that Kellerman and Steward were talking and all a sudden outta nowhere Lampley would cut them both off and immediately say, Cotto lands a hard! Or some dumb shit like that. ALWAYS cutting them off followed by something he said about Cotto. I was like, wtf? How can they be letting this guy get away with this shit. It was so annoying that I can't even watch the fight with the audio turned on anymore. Gotta play some music and watch :grumble:
I will admit I almost:( did.
But I almost teared up as well with Morales vs pac 3
Just to see Erik Morales go out like that was painful for me I thought it would of just been a decision loss.
Well if nothing else I admire your candor sometimes.

Lampley is AWESOME...Lamps,Merchant and Foreman were the best trio...True Lamps does get emotional but it's because he truly loves the sport... He always gets teary eyed if u watch...He was tearn up on the promo before PAV-lockett fight w/ Pav visting that kid w/ cancer JEZZZ EVEN I GEAR A LITTLE EMOTIONAL...He was nuthuggin Cotto a bit but he's still the best in the BIZ
Of course lampley would Tear up
Who wouldnt a Classy Gentleman lost and was not given a fair shake by the ref that night.
It is painful to see such a good ambassador for boxing and future superstar be denied his throne because of an ungrateful American who claims tijuana over califas.
Sounds like you teared up as you typed that. :baby:
you know what though kellerman and stewart were calling a great fight and pointing out all the things lampley wasnt. Kellerman and stewart we DEAD ON on just about EVERYTHING they said that was going on! They predicted that fight and how it played out to the T!!!!!
I noticed that too. Kellerman was keeping a close eye on Margo and saying that Margarito was getting closer and closer with that right hand. And then it happened. BOOM!
lampley has a great voice! He brings emotion and drama to the fight! it wouldnt be the same with out his commenting!!!
That's indesputable.
If anybody should be gone it should be Merchant!!! He is far more biased than Lampley, and acts like he is the reason people are watching the fight. He is a modern day Howard Cossell, only not as entertaining. Whenever a fighter that he roots against wins, or when they try to get more camera time at the end of a fight than him, he interupts them and cuts them off just so he can get more air time.
Yes. Annoying crap he does, as if whatever a fighter has to say is not as important as he he thinks it should be.
If you're asking a fighter for his perspective of the outcome, let the guy finish what he has to say then add your own two cents worth. :boxing:
