Personally, my philosophy is that while winning doesn't make you the better boxer, it does make you the better of the two. In the sense that you had what it took to come out victorious. Which, at the end of the day, is what it all boils down to, barring certain types of fights.

There have been several boxers like Margarito who have lost to boxers with lesser careers but the other boxers faded into obscurity while champs like Margarito rose to the top. At the end of the day it's up to each boxer to create their own legacy. As far as the matchup between Cotto and Margarito is concerned, Margarito won the head to head matchup between the two and if he wins a rematch against Williams, he would easily eclipse Cotto as the better overall boxer with the bigger career accomplishments regardless of boxing styles.

That depends. In some cases it does and in other cases in doesn't. For example, Frazier beat Ali but that does not mean that he is a better fighter. It meant that he was the better man that night. With all due respect to Frazier of course, he is a true legend. A one dimsensional pressure fighter could beat a slick elusive pure boxer 1000 times, but it doesn't mean he is a better fighter becuase style makes fights. In some ways, it could very well mean that the fighter is better. For example, Margarito beat Cintron twice and he IS a better fighter than Cintron is.
