Need some help guys, who do you rate better in the all time list. Roy Jones jr or Floyd Mayweather jr?
i go with Jones jr but can pick arguements for both.
Im sure they could both be rated in the top ten of all time especially for skilled boxers.
I just don't see why Floyd needs to proove himself in Welterweight tbh, if he did proove himself in Welterweight by beating Cotto/Margarito then yeah he's the man and he's prooved it then but Welterweights a big weight for floyd...Floyd is not a natural WW.
So what? So we should excuse him? Then he should go back to 130. That's like saying Roy shouldn't have fought any decent light heavyweights because they are all naturally bigger than him. And why should Manny Pacquiao fight him then? After all, isn't he a natural fly/super flyweight? See the mess you're creating? No need to defend Floyd like that.
True but there's also Ricky/Oscar...both bigger men that floyd and by no means pushovers...Oscar is overrated and old when Floyd beat him but it was at 154 lbs (light-middle) and Ricky at this time was over-hyped beyond belief he was supposed to be this raw undefeated tallent that would beat you down and knock you out...he was actually (thinking about it) a very dangerous fight for Floyd at the time as Hatton really was HYPED to shit and Floyd just took him to school. I agree though, right now Roy > Floyd, it's close but Roy has accomplished a bit more and he's beaten a better caliber of fighters. I think Floyds done with boxing though personally if he did come back, I'd rather he fought Manny Pacquiao at Lightweight/L.Welterweight than fighting the top Welterweights, mainly because I feel the Welterweights really will be just too big for Floyd. Pacman vs Floyd would be a much better fight imo It'll be much more even weight wise and they're both fast boxers + Both P4P No.1s at one point. Pacman being the current P4P.
I left out Oscar for a reason. Mayweather basically weighed the same as he would for a welter fight--not quite moving up. Second, Oscar hasn't had a significant win in six years. In other words, he's just a name.
Hatton? Bigger? I think we saw who was bigger and stronger. Furthermore, Hatton was already exposed as being only slightly above average at 147 by the slightly above average Louis Collazo. You said it yourself, overhyped.
if Floyd comes back, he needs to beat the best in his division, for starters. Not look for someone two divisions below. Let the Golden Girl tease fans with that kind of bullsh*t that gets them hyped.
From the first time I watched Floyd Mayweather - against Louie Leija on the Morales-Zaragoza undercard - I knew he was gonna be a great. In fact, I was so sure he was gonna surpass Roy on the ATG list and possibly challenge Robinson.
Unfortunately, I'm still waiting. After a promising start at 130 & 135, Floyd has done little to enhance his legacy--unless picking up titles from the likes of Gatti, Baldomir, etc. is your thing. Not knocking these guys and these are accomplishments but certainly nothing that enhances your legacy in any major way - and not quite on the level of beating even a Reggie Johnson. And Toney + Hopkins>>Corrales & Castillo.
Floyd still has a chance to surpass Roy, although it seems as if it's Jones these days who's hellbent on creating a spectacular legacy. Still, I think Floyd will return. The last chapter in his book is yet to be written. For now, it's Roy...and it's not that close.
You completely ingore the fact boxrec.com is a site many people here visit. Look that up before making stuff up. You are clearly fresh of Cotto's cold nuts. :op:
I'm still on them.
I still got love for Floyd too :)
He has a very good resume, especially pre 2002.
You have to remember Mayweather only fights older (average age of his opponents have been 34!) or smaller (and slower) competition.
The winning percentage of his opponents after his fights has been less than 40% with less than 30% ending in K.O's! Mayweather is good at picking fights at which he is sure he will win against poor matchups.
But remember he has NOT and will not ever be able to unify the division because he will never fight a younger true welterweight like Cotto, Margs, Williams, in fact he has not fought ANY of the top ten welterweights!
Check his record below the casual fan will be shocked at how poor (and old) his oponents have been!

For me it's very hard to pick on of them. Skill wise p4p i think they are very identical. Roy was more a offensive fighter, Floyd was definitely more defensive. People still hate on Floyd allot as you can tell by some of the replies telling you Floyd doesn't even deserve to be in the same thread as Roy. Well i believe he does deserve that honor, and so do many of the same people now criticizing him, as soon as the hate starts to go away and his flashy persona is a little faded (provided he doesn't continue to disrespect fellow boxers in the retirement chair).
The main difference for me is Roy fought until the day we could see his defense fail and him starting to get punished and his chin shattered. Floyd didn't subject himself to that, he did what he had to do, he made history and dominated away from his natural weight (we don't see many fighters dominate vs stronger opponents now do we Cotto?) and people always want more and more.
Failed troll, I see. Good reply btw rep+ you really negated everything I said about Floyds career there and opened my eyes to the failed, overrated chicken he is. /End sarcasm. Retard. Failed Troll.
Retard.
*gets you in a headlock*
Get out of that
The best fighters in boxing are the ones who fight the best fighters in the most memorable fights. Considering Floyd’s last ten opponents, Money Mayweather simply does not qualify.
I think Roy Jones and Mayweather are alot alike.
.................
Roy jones was just a good athlete he never was a good boxer....
once he slowed down he got KO............
floyd is an athlete and can box........
undefeated and retired riding that scooter around his house.........
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..........
Smaller? no. Mayweather has had the majority of his high profile fights at Lightweight-Welterweight, that's ABOVE floyds natural weight of super featherweight, as for his opponents being slower...well wtf do you expect? The guy is probably one of the fastest boxers in the sport of course his opponents are gonna be stronger. But smaller? no. Arturo Gatti really is the only one who comes to mind that's smaller than floyd tbh.
Look at who Floyd has beat...
Genaro Hernandez
Angel mandfredy
Diego corrales
Jose Luis castillo
Phillip Ndou
Arturo Gatti
Zab Judah
Carlos Baldomir
Oscar De La Hoya
Ricky Hatton
I mean yeah ok, some of them are overrated but that's a nice amount of well known high quality boxers he's beat there, sure the majority aren't on Margarito/Cotto level but he did beat a PRIME Castillo twice and prime Castillo was a force to be reackoned with. All of these guys were at higher weights than Mayweathers natural weight bar Genaro. Give Mayweather credit where it's due, he's been the most successful boxer of this generation, he has GREAT skills in boxing and he's accomplished alot in the sport. Yeah he hasn't fought some of the top Welterweights but the guys a natural super featherweight...could Cotto beat Pavlik or any of the top champion middleweights? Hell no, so why should Mayweather have to beat the top welterweights for his career to be valid? Big difference also is...Mayweather could arguably school Cotto/Margarito (Not saying he would, but he does have amazing skill and the potential to do it) but you compare Cotto/Margarito to Pavlik/Abraham and they don't even have a chance and that's only 2 weights higher than their natural weight, mayweathers fighting 3weights higher than his natural division to reach welter. Anyways, I'm sick of defending Mayweather, if people wanna hate him so be it but your reasons are usually very silly for doing so.
