It was a great fight. I'd love to see a rematch, and Cotto deserves one. Problem is he ain't gonna be able to change anything. He'd get hurt worse in a rematch.
When you unload your best shots on a man and he walks right through them, it destroys your psychological fortitude to continue with the fight. Margarito broke Cotto down mentally first, then he broke him physically. For career purposes, Cotto needs to stay far, far away from Margarito. He can still continue with a stellar career, he doesn't want to get mentally destroyed like Cintron or Roy Jones did by Tarver. Cotto just doesn't have the style to beat Margarito, plain and simple.
I think Cotto can win a rematch. To me it looked like he let the bloody nose bother him and he started to gas. My girl is a casual fan who watches when I do (God bless her) and she was saying the same thing. She said it looked like Cotto was very irritated. I did see him wipe at the nose and the eye a couple times. Who knows? I do know he should have won the fight. I was shocked to see he was down going into round 11.
if cotto wants to win a rematch he has to stand and fight with margarito. it's a gamble, but his lateral movement burned him out (attributed to the non-stop pressure of margarito). you just can't bounce around the ring like that for 12 rounds and still be effective. shades of corrales/freitas. also, he just kept circling out to his left, then going straight back to the ropes. tony did a hell of a job of staying focused and applying pressure.
i would love to see a rematch. we got an instant classic in the first.
It could happen but I just don't think people are taking the fact that Margarito broke Cotto's will as much as he tired him out. Cotto was visibly concerned when the tide turned in the 7th after he had landed an insane amount of power punches as cleanly as they could land. To see the guy's head snapped back time after time only to have him trot or jog right back at you has to be discouraging. Because of that I think he needs time to heal his confidence. I think Kellerman was on point with his analysis of how Cotto might be feeling, Physically what can Cotto add to beat this guys? It must be tough to know you were brilliant for 6 rounds and it didn't garner any rewards.
he could have went to the body man, that COULD make the fight very different!
Yeah I think if he would have went to the body he would have won this fight.Because I think he would have slowed MArg down and it would have been over. .I had him up in the rounds. If he could have held on till the end of the fight I think he would have won by 2 rounds.Anyways props to Marg for the big win.
a rematch would not be out of the question at all considering the scorecards of the judges at the time of stoppage and how well each fighter did in the fight...
first half of the fight was all cotto (i think i had him up 4 rounds 1 round after 5 rounds...) and down the stretch margarito came back and beat him into submission basically.
it was very good fight...the A/C was on in my house and i was still sweating from the, "edge of your seat" excitement.
i think a rematch would be warranted...
i mean it was a fight that could have gone either way (two judges had margarito up 96-94 and the other had it even)...
i personally had it even after 10...
so its not like it was one sided...
good post man.
I feel like it needs to happen. At the same time I wouldn't blame Margarito for cashing in on a De La Hoya fight.
Cotto against Clottey in 6 months time still makes plenty of sense to me.
i fucking hope so. great, and competitive fight!!!!!!!! i want more!!!!

there will be a rematch, arum said this fight did great on ppv so the second would be bigger. Alot of people predicted that it was the beginning of a trilogy
id love to see a rematch, great fight. i just dont see anything that cotto can do to change the result. cotto did everything he could have possibly done, margarito wasnt affected by it.

What??? Sounds like your girl knows as much as you do about boxing. Cotto is a pro man, his nose was a non factor, I guess you missed the body shots that Margarito was hitting him with from the start of the fight?
Marg said he was "wimpering" when he hit him to the body. Cotto was out manned.
i fucking hope so. great, and competitive fight!!!!!!!! i want more!!!!
Cotto wins the rematch like he should have Won this first fight...
He will improve on his stamina... I feel.

If Oscar and Floyd don't fight either one, I think it will be made out of necessity. Cotto would be wise to take a couple of confidence building fights first.
maybe Margarito should fight Williams, and Cotto fight Clottey (if he beats Judah) and if they both win, then "let's get ready to rumble"
