So Cotto lost, but gave an admirable display of abilities, but until the end he just fatigued and Margarito took the best of him, but members here are laughing at Cotto, disrespecting him and his fans. But after all I am still here beside my fighter and he is still the champion in my eyes and will always be since I am a true fan that will always root for him and I'm sure there are many more that feel the same way. So let's show respect and support to Cotto since he lost fighting the best unlike some fighters who only fought hand picked fighters (not saying any names except *cough* Mayweather *cough*). I'm sure he'll bounce back win a rematch against Margarito and will beat the best of the division again.
You cannot call him a quitter for that. Maybe he had blood in his eyes and could not see. Maybe he could not breath. Maybe he was trying to just give himself some time to compose himself.
You were not in the ring last night. You have no right to call him a quitter. You were not in his shoes. Maybe he used up every resource he had and had nothing left. To stand there and allowing himself to get knocked out would not be a sign of a warrior, but a sign of someone dumb. He has a family and a future to look after. Try to be realistic here.
It was the 11th round of a grueling fight. To take more punishment could have been deadly for him. Was he relieved that his corner stopped it? Probably, but more because he knew his body would not allow him to go further.
It happens. He lost to a better guy last night. I favored Marg to win the fight by decision as Cotto has gotten tired late in fights. He expended too much energy early though and could not maintain the pace to go 12.
Shit happens, but Cotto is no chump.
I have a right to call him whatever I want. I watched the fight just like you and I never said he was a chump, I just think the guy quit. Anyway you look at it, he didn't go out on his back, he went out on his knee.
Even the Puerto Ricans I was watching the fight with were angry that he did that.
I respect Cotto and think he's a great welter weight who still is an elite fighter in that division but he won't beat Marg no matter how many times they fight. He did everything perfectly in that fight for 7 rounds and it wasn't enough.
Yeah Shout otut to Cotto for a tremendous effort. He should've kept it up. He looked like he was in fucking shock, he mirrored Zab Judah after their bout together..that shit was a classic fight... it was as if he suffered karma.
Cotto fought well. I just wasn't his night. He'll be back. :biggthump
He will be back with a vengeance!! So many children in this place. There are some poor losers, but there is a shitload of poor winners also.
Why can't people just sit back, show respect to each other and to two fighters who gave it their all last night? Is that really too much to ask?
He's not the champ anymore, not in your eyes or any other eyes. He gets my respect for putting up a great fight and boxing great for 8 rounds or so.
The one thing I have to say I lost a little respect for was the way he kneeled and quit. a true warrior get's KO'd not allows his corner to bail him out.
Cotto doesn't want a rematch because there's nothing he can do differently than the first fight to change the outcome.

You can shut up too. A real champ knows when he's defeated and acknowledges that he lost to a better man. Cotto fought till then end and gave Margarito all of the credit in the world. Humble in victory, humble in defeat.
I suppose you like to watch guys go out like Oscar Diaz and Leavander Johnson though (rip). That was a brutal match, one of the best Welterweight fights in years. Why undermine the fight by calling him a quitter? Just doesn't make any sense to me. Oh well.

He kneeled because he couldn't stand anymore.
how hes been overrated for years.. getting hurt by every fighters hes faced...hes another hbo myth that was ruined last night .. he will never be the same... but i still respect him as a fighter as i respect any fighter
no you dont, otherwise you wouldn't have said all that shit. nobody needs you to sit here and call cotto overrated and call his career a myth. the guy has been fighting at the highest level for years now and just left everything he had in the ring against a better opponent. just enjoy what you saw and let it rest.

I agree 100% :boxing::argue:
Because Mayweather didn't fight the best, he fought hand picked fighters in the last part of his career, I have respect to Mayweather when he was at 130 and 135 after that he just fought Hand picked fighters, lost my respect for him but if he stands up and fights either of these men then win or lose I'll show respect for him.
arum guided floyd from 130 to 147... arum guided cotto's career from 140 to 147. cotto's opponents were just about as handpicked as floyd's.
cotto was never forced by arum to fight a guy that could bring it 12 round all out like margarito. that's why cotto lost. cotto needed to fight a guy like margarito but with less power.
if you can't respect floyd why should anyone respect cotto?

People are jumping off the wagon already. Fighters have good and bad nights. It was a bad night for Cotto. Margarito was the better man. Now everyone stop those damn exposed threads. Cotto is still a very good fighter and can bounce back with a better game plan
Completley agree. With someone like Mayweather you have to use your imagination to describe how he could beat Cotto but with Margarito u just have to watch the tape. No shame in loosing to the best especially when you help make it suc a great fight

I'm not a fan of Miguel Cotto. But I'll recognize and respect a real, no frills fighter when I see one. And I saw two last night. So Cotto gets plenty of respect from me.
