His style is very similar and it would defintitely be one of Mayweather's hardest fight. He defintitely wouldn't worry about his power since he ate Cotto and Cintron's best punches.
Look at the first 6 rounds and then ask yourself how would Floyd win the fight , its pretty easy to work out , Floyd will box like he did with Baldy for a boring Pts decision , he cant stand toe to toe with Margo but he can box brilliantly for 12 full rounds where Cotto could not , Cotto run out of steam because he is not as fluid and light footed as Floyd and as soon as that happens Margo is going to walk right through you which is what he did , Floyd can beat him but it will be by stealing the fight .
Good Point. I don't think Margarito is on Floyd's level. When Cotto boxed Tony he made it look easy. Floyd is a better boxer than Cotto and the reason Cotto lost is because he fought Margarito's fight. He didn't want to box and run he wanted to trade shots. TOny is just to big and his chin is why a welterweigh can't trade punches with him. BOXING now that is a different subject.
Floyd is very smart and knows how to handle his opponents. He knows what to expect and doesn't go in the ring foolishly "thinking" he can do something he knows he cannot.
Cotto's thing is power, pressure and breaking down his opponent. Floyd knows he cannot overpower Margarito and will not try to. He knows he has to avoid those uppercuts, avoid getting caught at the end of punches, move a lot for 12 rounds...
and that is exactly what he would do to win a decision.
on both sides of the equation, i mean, it seems like most people are looking to one of their national heroes to beat mayweather as opposed to anyone else. people would argue for years about margarito, cotto etc, but most threads about fellow americans beating him usually go unnoticed.
Yeah, thats the bad thing about the non stop boxing forum. There are biased fans that are haters and nut huggers. For example, one of the Klitschko fans said that David Haye has a poor resume, which is funny since his resume was better than Klitschko's when he only had 21 fights. Haye has already unified cruiserweight and could be heavyweight champion by next year. Wladimir didn't start fighting rank opponents until he had over 30 fights. I like boxingscene better but when i want to talk knowledge, i go to ESB for serious conversations.
Yeah, many people believe that Mayweather can not be beaten. I personally believe that he was already heading past his prime so the decision to retire was a good one. Young fighters like Cotto, Margarito ect would have gave him absolute hell.

did you notice how nobody but you seemed to even acknowledge this? i guess since forrest is american, nobody cares that i just bowed down to the viper.

I agree, Forrest in his prime just had the perfect timing and the ability to negate speed. His size advantage and reach would also cause Mayweather lots of problems.

Same reason why i think cotto will win the rematch with margorito... he has to see how beautiful the first 6 rounds were....they were great.
mayweather would win an easy decision
He's a way better boxer
he's way faster
he's slicker than anything Margo has faced
and he's way more ring savvy
Margo's pressure and power may give floyd some problems but it would be very difficult for Margo to hit floyd with any clean shots
historically in this era, Vernon Forrest of old i think is one of the few WW i think mayweather has no shot against, his style would be a nightmare and hes too big.

If Castillo could "Castillo" Mayweather then Margarito will "MARGARITO" Mayweather. Look up Margarito in the Dictionary........
Margarito: Creeping Death, Chupacabras, Superhuman, Mayweather killer
I also don't know if anyone noticed it or not, but Mayweather's foot speed and reflexes are not the same as they use to be. Look back at how his footspeed was so brilliant against Diego Corrlaes and Jesus Chavez, and then noticed it against De La Hoya and Hatton. He doesn't have use of the jab anymore, he gets hit a lot more and he only throws one punch at a time now. A few friends of mine and i myself thought that he was approaching the downhill slide before he retired anyway. It was a good decision.
Floyd laid on the ropes a lot when facing Hatton and ODLH, because out moving them is useless. People can say what they want against Hatton, but he has great footwork and is a master at cutting off a ring. Floyd rope a doped him in an effort to tire and frustrate Hatton and it worked. Against Margarito, Floyd would be able to use the ring and he would have to, as laying on the ropes he would get outpointed and beaten up by Margarito.
Floyd would use the ring and if he has the stamina in him still, he would win fairly easily IMO.

if by "castillo" mayweather, you mean floyd hurting his brittle hands during the fight, then yes he could.
Very few fighters could out box Mayweather in history and none could do it in this era, with the exception of maybe Zab Judah at junior welterweight, Vernon Forrest at welterweight or a young De La Hoya. You have to be a fighter that mixes boxing ability with thier educated pressure like a young Roberto Duran or Miguel Cotto. That is what threw Mayweather off when he fought Castillio and De La Hoya.

floyd doesnt need margs respect to beat him... floyd could lightly jab him all night....
and those slower flurrys wouldnt land at all on floyd... and floyd wouldnt get tired either
the only thing floyd would have against him in this fight would be lay off
I didn't say that Margarito would beat him, i just think that it wouldn't be the walk in the park that many people expect it to be and Margarito actually has a good shot. IMO he avoided him for a reason. His style is dangerous and a risk to Mayweather becuase boxers like that needs thier room to move and Margarito doesn't give you that. :D
I just look at it like this, if Margarito didn't care about Cotto's power, then why would he care about Mayweather's? When you have a pressure fighter that is relentess like that, then you will need to land something big to get his respect and Mayweather does not have a punch at welterweight.
For the person that told me to look at what happened in first 6 rounds with Cotto, Margarito is a slow starter and he was just warming up by 6th round. Hes one of those fighters that gets stronger as the rounds went on. At first, i thought that Margarito was just a wide open banger, but he was getting full leverage on those power punches and was using his reach when he had Cotto on the ropes to land his power punches. If Mayweather struggled with Oscar's reach, then he would have problems with Margarito's IMO. Even years back before this fight, i have always new that he would give Mayweather hell. I'm not saying he would beat Floyd, but he is very dangerous and would be one of Floyd's harder fights.

When Cotto moved, margarito couldnt catch him, when cotto exchanged he got the better of him each time, margarito won because cotto stopped, slowed down and hung out on the ropes and got hit with the same shit he always gets hit with, mayweather isnt vunerable in the same way Cotto is and margaritos power isnt devastating, mayweather even against the ropes would see it all coming and land vicious power shots, the movement would confuse margarito because that guy is terrible with cutting off the ring, he has no real jab.
Man i think i told you this before, its gonna take another Zab to put mayweather out, flatout brawlers/pressure fighters dont really do the trick with that guy because he adjusts.

For example, Malinaggi is an excellent boxer, fast and has a lot of technical ability and athleticism. However, he did not have the punch to keep Cotto off of him. Judah and Mosley had the power to keep him off so they did not get punished as much as Malinaggi did. Do you see what i am getting at now? How would Mayweather keep Margarito off of him when he doesn't have that punch at welterweight?
But malignaggi isnt exactly a fighter who can adjust his gameplan to someone like cotto if something isnt working, malignaggi is also hittable as well as lacking a real inside fight game.
Also, you are forgetting the frustration factor, that thing that happens when you realize you arent going to catch mayweather and he can see your punches from a mile away, margarito would be taking jabs to the body, uppercuts and punches to the face, while he wont be hurt, he will get pissed off like everyone else does and mayweather will likely change his gameplan, give him a different look and then the boos will reign in and the HBO announcers will ask why he chose this fight knowing it would be a easy UD12.
