but Could Mayweather Do It For 12 Rounds The Way Cotto Did For 6?
here we go again with nonsense boxing fans. all of u r probably the ones that said cotto would destroy margarito last night. hahaha unbelievable. cotto looses ooh yeah forget about him right? mayweather would not make the mistakes that cotto would. Ok, so now mayweather would get the job done right. why not he is undefeated and very fast!!! stupid stupid!!!! Margarito would chase mayweather as well. the only difference would be is that, instead of margarito walking towards mayweather, he would have to actually run!! to catch him. mayweather would fight the typical boring fight hit and run, BUT eventually his legs would get tired. margo would finish him with uppercuts, and punches to the body. Yes mayweather defense is better than cottos. TRUE.but even with his defense he would still be able to feel margarito's punches. just like every fighter.
one thing wrong..... and I highlighted it.
Short honest answer: no. Why? Because that would lose him the fight. He would do something more similar to what he did to Hatton. Mayweather has been used to fight backwards and against stronger men for most his career, don't forget that. He can handle pressure, he can tie you up and give you a tiny shoulder and he can also slip punches while countering. Cotto never had to fight going back because he was brought up by Arum like a cashcow, fighting all his career against people who didn't post a real threat physically. When he had to fight like Floyd fought most of his career (people used to call him a runner but he never ran nearly as much as Cotto did last night, fact). So please don't start an argument you can't sustain with a better argument than "stfu".
Well I will Respond and to the arguement and end it in the same sentence.
I was asking a Honest question.
I am surprised by the pro mayweather responses but i don't disagree with them I agree.
Still just a question though so..... Yea theres your arguement. :spankme:

floyd easily outboxes margarito. cotto gasses and floyd doesn't.
Everyone is giving good points....
I'd like to see some points for how margarito could pull it off if any?
Is there a way T. TORNADO could beat MONEY MAY if they both boxed they way they did in their greatest fights?
I know someone has to think margo could pull it off?....
Someone.
Margarito is a great fighter and insanely determined but there is just no way Mayweather would get into the kind of fight that Cotto was willing to get into and made him lose. He doesn't have a whole country willing him to fight 'macho' style. Mayweather just doesn't care about that and it would get him the win pretty damn easy. I would much rather watch Marg vs Hoya, rematch vs Williams or a rematch vs Cotto even. After this fight I still think Cotto gives Mayweather the hardest fight right now.
this is the key statement, the majority of floyd fans, most of whom are either boxing purists or people who have been fans of guys like whitaker, ali etc know what to expect.
What Cotto did and what Floyd did are completely different. Mayweather has other elements to his defense beside dodging punches. Miguel went in the corner and just dodged what he could and countered.
Mayweather never really throws when the other guy is throwing. That's why he doesn't get hit as much or as cleanly. He lets you get off and then he picks and chooses his spots. He really mixes it up well. He always looks to throw punches when you are not ready. That's what's so frustrating about fighting him. You have to bust your ass to get a decent scratch on him and then once you are done he comes back with great precision.
Mayweather dodges punches similar to what Cotto did. However, Mayweather is also is able to roll with punches which is a lot more difficult to do. But at the same time you expend less by staying in the pocket rolling with punches rather than ducking punches and constantly back peddling. Mayweather also does a good job of clinching when his guys is on the inside and about to flurry.
If Cotto can outbox Margarito in the first 6 rounds even though Cotto isnt a Boxer/Mover, I dont want to imagine what a speed boxer would do to Margarito...earlier in the fight last night Margarito looked frustrated when Cotto was moving.
Yes and better. He wouldn't get hit half as much as Cotto did. Cotto was out of his element the entire night. He's used to walking guys down being the aggressor. He did an excellent job early on. But by the 5th round the writing was on the wall. I knew he would eventually succumb to the pressure. He couldn't hurt Margarito at all.
Cotto did well, but you could see he wasn,t comfortable with the situation

People say Cotto got weak defense, they are coming with the sugar shane landed 50% of his powerpunches argument etc, at the same time they call Floyd a defensive genius.
Now, Cotto looked like a defensive genius against Margarito till the 11th round, what would Floyd look like?
Floyd would have an easier time with Tony than he would with Cotto. Williams easily out-boxed Tony as was Cotto at times, he just didn't pace himself and was putting too much behind his punches trying to KO Tony, which was never going to happen.
I see Floyd winning an easy UD in a similar fight he fought against DLH. Floyd moves and counters too good for Margarito and has shown that he can handle pressure against DLH and Hatton. I really don't see how Margarito beats Floyd unless Floyd walked into a roundhouse.
wOW... GOOD ARGUEMENTS FOR both sides.... would be a tough fight either way... i also think mayweather might be able to run/move/skip/sidestep his way to a UD.. would be fun to watch for me.
