isn't the "philly shell" name just some shit EA came up with?
isnt it actually called the sholder roll style/defence?
i have never seen the term used anywhere else, next thing i knew in 2006, it was everywhere after round 3. lol.
James Toney and Floyd Mayweather are the only ones who use it to any effect.
because some fighters use it as a stationary defense like the crossblock or holding your hands up, the philly shell is to help you anticipate punches, move out the way and issue vicious counters and not giving your opponent very much body, when you use it for a fighter whos gifted and fast, its really hard to catch up to them, a guy like toney who has seen every punch from every angle can be effective with it to this day, even with his refelxes and motor skills slowed. its for intelligent fighters, which is why guys like vargas dont have a shot in hell at making it effective
hold on...
isnt the philly shell the one where you have your arms somewhat crossed? a la Moore, Frazier, Briscoe?
Why would the philly shell be the common denominator of midwest fighters???
locche was on that shit ,and toney has been around longer than floyd so do the math, but I'm pretty sure you go to most gyms and see the shorty practicing that shit cause of floyd.
