1) Jones goes up to HW in March of 03 and beats Ruiz.
2) In November of 03, just 8 months after the Ruiz fight Jones is able to beat Tarver.
3) In May of 04, with another 6 months time to get used to the weight again, Roy gets TKO'd.
4) In October of 05, with another 17 months time to get used to the weight, Roy gets decisioned by Tarver.
How does Roy look his best in the fight where hypothetically he should have been the most weight drained?
see you think because there was an 8 month time from ruiz to tarver, that for 8 months roy worked on getting back to LHW... well he didnt... he was looking at possibly a holyfield fight... then he decided to fight tarver...
he didnt start losing weight for the entire 8 months.. he did his 10 week training camp...
now when you have FAT on your body, losing 24 pounds... QUITE doable with a professional 10 week training camp... when you have NOTHING but muscle.... losing 24 POUNDS.. is HUGE... especially at 34-35 years old...
you have to run with a rubber suit on, then run some more, then run some more... and completely weight drain your entire body... lose 24 pounds of water and muscle... and THEN go fight a 12 round championship fight with a GOOD fighter...
and he WON!
now after the fight, u think hes just gonna keep all that water off and be dehydrated? no hes gonna go back up to where he was after the fight...
and guess what? 6 months later, hes gonna have to do it ALL OVER again... at 35 years old... theres no way, no how, that ISNT gonna take it out of you.... as ive said before.. u can pass out from doing NOTHING if your dehydrated, let alone being punched in the face... being dehydrated definitely takes away from your punch resistance...
with that said, tarver STILL landed a good punch on roy...
the johnson KO was 4 months after the tarver KO... and yet ANOTHER training camp right after the tarver fight... hes basically KILLING his body with this shit
and the 3rd fight with tarver... well that was basically... just GO 12 rounds and survive... i think anyone NORMAL would be gunshy after being iced twice..
all u have to do is look at the comparison below.. and know something is going on with the weight draining

This post explains everything.
Jones won the first fight by winning the last 2 rounds, 115-113 was the score I had.
Ive never seen anything like Roy fans, its really funny. The facts are that Roy got caught in the 2nd fight that anyone could have gotten caught with and got knocked out. After that he was and still is mentally bothered by it, Tarver is in his head, he is so cautious after that punch when he is in the ring with Tarver, thats called ownage just get over it. Its like having a horrific incident happen in your life and when faced with that thought again it affects you. Psychologically Tarver is in his head, like when Vernon beat Shane the first time, in the second fight whenever Vernon feinted with the right hand Shane jerked back, it happens all the time, just because it happened to Roy oh well. Funny how nobody says Roy was weight drained in the Johnson fight, what happened then? Roy lost every round and got knocked out, I saw in Roy's eyes after the first Tarver fight he wasnt mentally there, look in his eyes, he looked mentally disconnected, like he wasnt all there. Its called getting knocked out horrifically.
He got caught with a shot that the regular Roy would have looked at as it flew by him. That's why it landed.
weight drained/tarver combo
Funny how nobody says Roy was weight drained in the Johnson fight, what happened then?
It's called the terror of being hit. Steward, as much as he flip flops on fight predictions and such, stuck in a good nugget of wisdom about the risk in taking a fight so soon after being KO'd and the risk was becoming gunshy which could lead to being KO'd again. I say Roy was suffering from the terror of a KO just by the performance, no need to get in his head with any bs conjecture. He's winking, and blowing kisses and shit into the crowd, while not throwing and just trying to survive... hell, I can't even say survive, it was more like he was just hanging around until Johnson nearly killed him (I thought he was going to die for a minute immediately after he went down and stopped moving).
I was screaming at my TV for that one, it was clear to me he was shook after Tarver 2. He wasn't doing jack offensively and had the nerve to show off like he wasn't in a losing bout more than halfway through the fight. I was very surprised to read on the many boxing boards, that Tarver knocking Jones out prior was of no relevance to Johnson doing it. Had everything to do with it, and the viciousness of it to me.

RJJ barely got past Tarver the first time because he was weight drained. Even though he had more time to get used to 175 lbs it already took it's toll on RJJ's body and legs.
Plus the KTFO ruined RJJ's chin and confidence
Some of you ppl must be dumb fucks......Have you ever watched a prize fight and scored it.....
How many of these dumb fucks have watched the RJJR v Antonio Tarver 1 fight more then once..........Please tell me.....BC if you have....And do shut the volume off with them dumb fucks of anouncers given there shit take on every round.....And watch it again....Roy EASILY i repeat EASILY wins 7 rounds.......
Tarver wins the first 2 rounds by putting Roy against the ropes and pounding away. The next 5 rounds..........Easy....Tarver stops throwing, He doesn't press Roy and he allows Roy to win these 5 rounds with absolute ease by sitting in the middle of the ring and potshottin Tarver.....And using his rig hook to the body effectively...
Now Tarver goes onto win the next 2 rounds pretty easily as he again has Roy on the ropes and is throwing every shot in his entire aresenal at Roy....again great rounds for Antonio Tarver......
Now in rounds 10-12 Roy Jones Jr came and stepped up for the 1st time in his career when he was facing adversity. Roy went and threw his combos and let his hands go while again Tarver sat there dumbfounded like he idnt think Roy could possibly do anymore.....
BOTTOM LINE......And for all you Mo'Mo's who feel Antonio Tarver won this fight.....
ANTONIO TARVER DID EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO LOSE THIS FIGHT WHEN IT WAS THERE TO BE WON.......MEANWHILE RJJR DID EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO WIN THIS FIGHT AND HE DID.....
116-112 8 rounds to 4 for Roy Jones Jr......Any true fan and anyone who has some type of knowledge of boxing has Jones winning this fight....And yes it was the toughest fight of Roy's career, but he showed something that i have fuckin yetto see outta your boy Antonio Tarver.......HEARRRTTTT!!!!!!!!

Let me add a lil more to this since i can relate to what your saying. In junior high and highschool i played football and basketball. In football i played DE and in basketball i played small forward pf and center. In football I tryed to bulk up 10-15 lbs more than i normally weigh since i had to go against huge OL and big runningbacks. Then during b-ball season i ran alot and tried to drop weight to deal with quicker guards and basketball players. During that transition I took me a lil while to adapt. What really went to shit was my reflexes and cordination(along with foot and hand speed). Your body has to adjust to the new weight so that also could explain why his reflexes etc wasnt as good as it normally was. IF anyone out there played sports that contrast each other like that would know what im talking about in regards to loosing and gaining weight(muscle not fat) like that.
** You'e asking to explain a Don King smoke and mirrors production.
Nobody but Roy or possibly a trainer can tell you the facts, and Roy can't be trusted because he has a reputation to protect.
The facts are Roy weighed in only 5-7lbs above his normal ring weight. If looks count, that was all muscle weight. His "ring weight" for the fight was 12-14lbs above his normal ring weight. We don't know his actual weight because he never stripped down. Assuming he wasn't wearing weights or accessories, his actual weight at weighin right at 190lb limit, making him 5lbs or less over his normal ring weight.
All this 50 lbs of solid muscle stuff just hooey by fanboys.
Circumstantial evidence would point to possible steroid use at this time. Again, nothing proven.
Next, we don't know what weight Roy blew up to or shrunk down to after the fight. The reports out of training camp for the first Tarver fight were glowing, but again, these writers sometimes fall in love with their subject and don't have the best eye usually. Training sessions can be choreographed, ect, so unless you are an insider, it's all smoke and mirrors.
It's a concensus that Roy didn't look good for the Tarver fight, but pulled it out at the end. Facts are he had been looking lackadaisical in fights leading up to the Ruiz fight. That ended up being such a big event that he was well motivated for, and he also had a lot of assistance from the ref who wouldn't let Ruiz fight like Ruiz.
King after all was looking to squeeze money out of Roy for future heavy fights, set up everything for that purpose.
Roy got the big head, started talking 100 mil purses, and for some reason let the pipsqueak Tarver get under his skin. He was given a signed Jirov contract drawn up by Roy's manager for his cruiser title, but Roy never signed and let it die in his drawer. He backed out of Holy negotiations. We know what Toney did with those two. They salvaged his tattered rep.
After Toney beat Jirov, the Toney rematch was the biggest non heavy bout Roy could have made, but Roy wouldn't bite on that. Probably personal animosity towards Toney, but who knows?
Seems to me that Roy's just been hanging on, going through the motions after Ruiz. Likes the glory, the attention, the training, but just marking time in the ring, denying the aging process.
Someone mentioned he just got caught against Tarver the 2nd fight. Absolutely. That was like a gunshot in the ring that brought down the moon. One off shot that knocked the earth off it's axis. That shot drops 99.999% of the lightheavies who ever lived for the count. If you look, Roy has his right guard in solid position too. It was just one of those perfect shots.
Since then, it's been a crisis of confidence for Roy. Not good enough to beat the best, but good enough to keep a ranking and maybe worm his way to a soft landing.
Thus, enter Joe Calzaghe. We shall see.
Nice post.. Green K for that

the people who think Tarver beat Jones first time around clearly dont have the first idea of how to score a fight ,u people need your head examining if u think Tarver won that fight yes it was competitive but Jones won clearly by at least 2 rounds
There's no greater proof to the greatness of Roy Jones Jr. than the fact that people argue he should've fought Lennox Lewis.
That pretty much says it all.
true!
When a former middleweight is criticized for not fighting the dominant champ of one of the best HW eras, you know he is a GREAT former Middleweight

GREAT POST!!!! green k ur way i never understood it but that makes complete since
Tarver was always going to cause Roy problems at any point in their careers. Roy is better, but Tarver could have beaten him at any time and vice versa.
Wow. Just wow. Don't watch boxing.
He was clearly not the same fighter after he shed the weight to go back down to LHW to fight Tarver. Just go and watch his fights leading up to Ruiz then watch Tarver I and the difference is incredible. He may have beaten Tarver in that first fight but he struggled worse than ever before. The writing was on the wall at this point.
I also love the fact after getting more credit than anybody for beating one of the worst heavyweight champs ever in Ruiz, he had all the options in the world. When names like Lewis, Holyfield and Tyson came up. RJJ jumped all over the idea of fighting a then pretty small name in Tarver. Taver was the best fighter he fought in years and lost the first fight, but like always Jones living on his name got him the decsion. So Jones has to be ready for the second fight, no doubt about it. Tarver game him his toughest fight ever. Fight comes along and boom Roy Jones gets KTFO.
The same people who say RJJ was weight drained for the Tarver fight are the same ones who blow off the fact that James Toney was. He had to lose 50 pounds and be on a IV when RJJ fought him.
Fallacy.
That is not accurate.
Tarver was always going to cause Roy problems at any point in their careers. Roy is better, but Tarver could have beaten him at any time and vice versa.
No way.
Prime Roy desposes of Tarver with ease.
Roy may have won a Majority Decision against Tarver in that match, but he definetly didnt win the fight. Roy should've retired after John Ruiz. Imagine what people's perceptions today would've been on Roy if he had retired right after Ruiz? He would've definetly been a candidate for one of the best fighters of all time
He definitly won that fight, he clearly won more rounds.
There's no greater proof to the greatness of Roy Jones Jr. than the fact that people argue he should've fought Lennox Lewis.
That pretty much says it all.
good
you started off saying he lost the 1st fight.
It could have went either way. Like I said a "close controversial decision". Not much else to say other than that. It only makes Jones look worse and puts even more time in between the "HUGE weight drain" and the time he got KTFO.
Jones at the very best went 1-2 with Tarver, so what does it matter. The same Tarver who went on to lose most of his big fights. Only going 1-1 with Jonson and getting beat down by Hopkins.
Tarver was always going to cause Roy problems at any point in their careers. Roy is better, but Tarver could have beaten him at any time and vice versa.
