I noticed he didnt say it as well, and I laughed. Cortez didnt even do anything tonight. He seemed determined to not ruin anything after all the questionable shit he has done lately. Im not saying he should have done much in this fight, but Wlad did some rough holding, and some measuring that seriously seemed to last for like 8 seconds at a time and Tony landed lots of low punches and didnt make a peep. Im all for letting them fight, but how about being consistent from fight to fight?
Time keepers very often stop the clocks when things like that happen even if the referee doesn't call a timeout.
People need to get off Cortez's dick.... Seriously.
** Hey, it's all for you, just spare us the details, seriously.
He blew it in the 10th by not calling time out when they got tangled up and Thompson didn't want to fight any more. Cortez gave him an easy 30 secs to recover and then the bell rings.

There's a difference between warning a fighter for excessive clinching and interrupting the flow of a fight b/c you want to state your authority. Cortez did the same interrupting during the Hopkins Calzaghe fight......
Did he interrupt the flow during Castillo - Hatton fight???
No it was fine. When it was necessary for him to step in, he did and it was for the Mayweather fight.......period.
He was pretty low key tonight...
** Cortez did about as well as a shot ref could do under the circumstances.

If you go back and review the fight, Wlad is landing a lot of jabs and rights through the guard of Thompson that the compuhoax system was too stupid to count because those guys just a bunch of drunk baboons pushing buttons.
Wlad took Thompson's legs out early in the fight which is why he collapsed 3x and looked ready to fold at various points. Wlad should thrown that right hook up the gut of Thompson and he'd have taken him out earlier, but, like Ali, both the brothers tend to be headhunters and pretty damn accurate ones.
A better fighter with his legs under him might have made Wlad pay for some of those missed rights, but Tony hung as tough as he could and did a decent job on Wlad's body even if it lacked any conviction.
BTW, Wlad holds the record for wins against southpaws in title matches, a modern development you won't hear all those musty ol' war horse media types talk about because their radar don't detect well in the modern era.
Povetkin in the breech next should prove to be much easier. John Ruiz the only Ring top 10 fighter left to hold up the tubby pants of the US of A. Who'd have ever thunk it?
Hopefully we'll see Cortez put out to pasture along side of Big Brown. Poor guy is shot....:usa:
Ricky Hatton is notoriously known for hugging and punching low.
I agree, a ref should be invisible but if a guy can't throw a decent punch without holding on to something first then the ref steps in and enforces the rule.
Same thing happened to John Ruiz Vs Roy Jones.
You can argue that Floyd was holding too and he did but Floyd isn't notorious for that like Ricky is. He has more skills and doesn't need to do that as much as Ricky does.

Was it just me or was Lewis much better this broadcast?
He sounded clear and not like he's stoned. Also he looked motivated or something. Usually he just chills. lol.
It could be that Lennox is just more in his comfort zone calling heavyweight fights. I give him credit for being very fair in his analysis of Klitschko. If they put someone like Larry Holmes in there he'd be shitting all over him.
No, Cortez had nothing to do with Hatton gettng KO'd but he interfered with the fight way too much. The third person in the ring should be invisible, not the central figure, like he frequently is...

I was shocked that they never showed a replay of that. Usually HBO is all over those kind of things. Lennox seemed sure it was a knockdown.
It happened so fast, I'm really not sure one way or another, but I sure would like to see a replay of it. Out of character for HBO, for sure.
Did anyone else notice all of the low blows and rabbit punches that Thompson was able to get away with? I would have liked to see a replay of that early knockdown that wasn't called as well.

You ricky Hatton cock munchers need to get over it......seriously.
Ricky got KTFO.....and the ref had nothing to do with it.
Was the ref responsible for how Juan Lazcano landed the exact same punch in the exact same round in the UK with a hometown referee who saved his ass from getting Ko'd.
A slow, no power having Lazcano, imagine what Mayweather would have done all over again.

I thought it was interesting he didn't say his famous line after his recent stuff ups. I am surprised he got to ref another big fight so soon
