Even though he got KO'd, I was still impressed with Thompson's durability and strong chin, he took some huge right hands, left hooks and uppercuts from Wlad.
Journal Square, I've only just realised, not to say acknowledged within my culmulative mass of grey matter known to experts within the field of science as a brain, that you're the poster and member formerly and previously known and referred to and regarded as Asian Sensation, or the Sensational Asian.
This is probably definitely true.
The only heavyweight who probably could fit that description would be David Haye, and he surely won't be next. But maybe Povetkin will have enough of both to at least test him?
Bad style matchup for Povetkin. He's a shorter fighter who stands straight up, right in punching range. I can think of better fights for Povetkin right now instead of Klitschko.
Thompson never really sat down on his shots and just didn't have enough power to keep Wlad away.
I wouldn't mind seeing Wlad in with a puncher that has some decent speed next.

100 percent agreed.
I just can't believe what people were watching... it was like Bruce Seldon in his prime.
From the wrong angle it looked like a missed punch, but it was a solid right on the jaw landed at just the right moment.
How many of those shots was Wlad sitting down on?
I can't believe you have this guy top five Run/W, when he gave up like a prime Lockett. At least when De La Hoya takes a dive he puts some effort into it.
Dive? What are you talking about dive? Thompson gave 11 rounds of quality pugilism before being worn down by Klitschko. I think your definition of dive is a little bit off.
I agree that when Thompson tumbled down in the corner in the round before the end, you knew he didn't have any fight left in him. It looked like the only thing that got him up was heart.
I have a sneaking suspicion that those unusually long trunks came in handy hiding a knee brace.
Still, it's the Heavyweight championship of the world and you have to suck it up or go home.
Klitschko fought a very gritty fight, didn't depend on the jab as much as he had in previous fights and let the power punches be what dictated destiny. It was a highly respectable showing, for both guys really.
I actually recall seeing Thompson hobbling in a shoe store a few weeks earlier looking for insoles to cushion his feet. I heard, I was not there, that Thompson had suffered a knee injury while running. When he fell down in the second round and took forever to get up I knew exactly what had happened, his knee was giving out.
Still he sucked it up and gave Wladimir a hell of a fight. His body work in the middle rounds was very impressive, I thought it was getting to Wladimir. Wladimir was forced to work hard, much harder than he had to in any of his recent fights.
At the end when Wladimir fell on Thompson's knee, that was the end of the night for him. Amidst the pressure, I think Thompson might have went down of his own volition because he wasn't in fighting shape. Case and point, he covered his head with his glove to shield himself and got up at 10.

PROPS TO THOMPSON! he was very humble and put up a good fight at first. He even had me scared at first, if he had pop, He could have very well make a much better impression. Still PROPS VERY WELL DESERVED
I mean the wins over Guinn, Sultan's brother, Luan Krasniqi, Vaugn Bean, Yanqui Diaz, and Maurice Wheeler. are now put into scope.
He's not a tomato can.

Haha I don't think anyone can legitimately argue against that.
Thompson is probably in my estimation a top 5 HW right now.
That losing effort catapulted him in the rankings.
I agree, this performance shouldn't drop his rating at all. The whole Arreola is the best American HW now is a bit stupid.
Thompson is much better than Ray Austin.

I personally think it's moreso his defense.
But yeah lol he took a couple of really nasty shots.
He has a good, solid gaurd and those right hands Wlad threw bounced off.
Yeah, he has good defense, a Winky/Chambers type guard, but Wlad did catch him with big shots and Thompson showed his strong chin.
True. He fought a lot better than I thought he would. Respect to Thompson:boxing:
Thompson looked great in rounds 1-5, but seemed to give up afterwards. I was sort of dissappointed in him for that...
