Thompson did better than I thought he'd do.
Here's a man that didn't touch a glove until he was 27, slow as hell, with no power - and he still managed to put some leather on Wlad.
Thompson surprised me with the early body shots also....nicely done.
Based on tonights performance, I'm thoroughly convinced of one thing: Any champ from the 90's woulda smoked Wlad's ass. (Take your pick - Old Foreman, Tyson, Holyfield, Morrison...etc).
I just don't see how Wlad would overcome the POWER and SPEED of some of the champs from the 90's...both of which Thompson is missing - IN ABUNDANCE..
Lots of running by Wlad also....
Nonetheless (in closing), congrats to wlad on winning the bout by KO.
Is that Wlad's next fight?
Povetkin is his mandatory contender, and it's a big fight in Germany, so I think it is a safe assumption if Povetkin gets through his tuneup fight this month.
Ali and Holmes certainly had faster jabs, but not harder jabs. Louis, Liston, Foreman, and Lewis are more comparable. IMO the reason Klitschko's jab has been less effective is because he has fought two awkward lefties in a row. His jab was reasonably sharp against Byrd, Brewster, and Brock. When he fights Povetkin his jab should be a major factor. If it isn't, then you may be on to something.

Lets put is like this. How big of a compliment is it to say that Wlad has one of the best jabs in heavyweight history when there weren't that many great jabbers. It's not like there were many to pick from.
The few that were great all had better jabs......Ali, Holmes etc,. And lately his jab was garbage, not because of who he is fighting but because of what side he moves to. Unstead of moving to his left throwing a stiff jab, he moves to the right pawing with his jab Hopkins-esque.

Maybe a lot of people are saying it because it is true? We don't agree much, but you do know about boxing. I don't really want to get into a pissing match about it. Maybe you could pick your words more tactfully in the future though. Nobody likes to be accused of not having original thoughts or plagiarism.

He is a sloppy fighter with no inside game whatsoever. You could say he is one-dimensional. With that said, his dimension is effective in todays crappy HW division and we even saw him teaste Ko defeat against some ordinary fighters in the process.
The only fighter who I would pick without hesitation over Wlad would be Lewis. I think Lewis jab and power would have stopped Wlad tonight. I would not pick Bowe over Wlad. I think Wlad stops him. Holyfield would have problems with the jab like you said. It would be a good fight. But I still wouldnt pick Wlad to beat him. Tyson in the 90's I have doubts about. He was just too short. He(Tyson) would have problems with Wlad and that Tyson would not be my pick. Ruddock would have been a bad match for Wlad though but overall I think Wlad would have done well.
I would agree that out of all the 1990's fighters Lewis would be the most likely to beat Klitschko. He always did well against big guys and he matches up very well against Wlad. Of course prime Holyfield was a tough fight for anyone, just like Tyson was always a threat to anyone in the first five rounds.
Then how can you claim to know anything before I learned spell?
I've followed boxing for a long, long time and those that I missed watched on boxing tapes.
I wasn't disrespecting, it's just what alot of people say.

Holyfield struggled with tall fighters who had a good jab. I wouldn't call him a lock.

You showed me disrespect by saying I stole "talking points". That's bullshit. And that's typical of you. If you don't think I'm right then debate it, don't pull that cheap shot.
And just for the record, none of your fucking business.

Oh no......now the old guy is gonna act like the veteran boxing fan I can't compete with on boxing knowledge.
Being older doesn't make you right.
Just for the record, how old are you?

Is that the best that you've got? I was writing about boxing when you were still learning the alphabet.

Why is your name Wladimir then? lol. You must have been a fan of his when you signed up here.
NEWSFLASH to slicksouthpaw!!!
There are other people in this world with the name Vladmir besides the fighter.
My is with a V not a W anyway.

What about Mercer, McCall, Rahman, Douglas, Herbie Hide, Moorer and Bowe they were all champs I'm not saying they'd lose but Wlad would prob beat Hide, Douglas and McCall at least.

Wlad bothers the fuck outta me when he ties people up after hitting em. Other people do it and I don't mind as much, but it really pisses me off when he does that. I don't know why. Maybe because he's so big...I feel like he should defend himself inside without doing that.
Wladimir has a lot more than a right and grab tactic. He has one of the best jabs in heavyweight history. It just wasn't effective against Thompson's awkward southpaw style. He'd hit Holyfield and Tyson plenty with it though.
Is that the talking points memo you picked up from other posters.
someone with speed who can get in and out would blitz him, get through his only defensive weapon, that jab. I can't believe someone said a PRIME Tyson would only stand a 50-50 chance of beating Klitschko.
people need to understand that wlad's comp is similar to the kinda comp that a prime destructive tyson late 80's fought.this aren't the fit bowe's or holyfield's or tyson's or lewis's,these are not even the tommy morisson's of this era.he should be the unified undisputed champ by now and ruling with and iron fist.plain and simple.
He struggled but those guys had to push themselfs to the limits to win the fight not just throw a right hand and hold all night.
