L, I think you should try giving a better answer than you gave lol.
ha ha ha
i don't know , boof......
everybody's piling on me for the defense comment. i did rate ali #2 in defense!!! it's not like i had him in last place!!!
Ali had everything his movement was far better than the other 3...So with the movement and his punchin skills he is a complete fighter cause the other 3 cant move like him...
If you're hard to hit, wouldn't that mean you have good defense? LOL...Look at Pernell Whitaker... He rarely used his gloves to not get hit, always moving.
And if you say Ali wasn't great at blocking, then how did he use the Rope-A-Dope against George Foreman?????
like i said in my previous post i put that on speed. i have my own way of looking at things.
what does the rope-a-dope have to do with blocking? he was leaning back to avoid getting hit.
1. Ali
2. Holmes
3. Lewis
There's at least 10 others guys that I would pick before Klitchko. I think he's way overrated.
heads or tails, call it.......that's the best I can do for you. Call it.
ali's defense was not that great. he used his footwork and great head and body movement to get out of the way. he wasn't great at blocking punches nor at parrying. the only defensive move he mastered was the clinch.
just because a guy is so fast that he was hard to hit doesn't mean he had a great defense.

I place Lennox Lewis easily on my top five of greatest heavyweight champions. He might even be as high as #2 or #3. Damn right he was complete!
First of all, he had beaten everyone he faced. This includes Tyson, Holyfield and anyone deemed to be the number one contender at the time of him being champion-i.e. Michael Grant, David Tua and Klitschko.
Secondly, he had fighters purposely avoiding him. Tyson even paid him millions to not to fight him. Riddick Bowe gave up his WBC belt not to fight him. That is because they all feared him.
I know most people are going to talk about his two losses. The only reason why he lost those two fights was because he took his opponents lightly and was being careless. Once he took them seriously, he demolished Rahman and McCall in their second fights. After all, Mohammed Ali had to avenge his losses to be considered the best. Why isn't Lewis not be given that same benefit?
very good pints, good post
This selection is ridiculous! It should be between Ali, Holmes, Joe Louis, Marciano, and Jack Johnson. Neither Lewis nor Wlad have the right to be in the same category with those fighters. As for the question I have to go with Holmes. He was by far the most complete out of the fighters, while I think Ali was the better fighter(though I suspect Larry would have defeated him their prime), alot of his skill relied on his athletic ability, once that was gone he was no longer a real contender. Larry on the other hand was able to still fight competitively well past his prime because of him being a complete fighter. People talk about the Tyson fight but forget a few things:
1)He came straight out of retirement after being on a two year layoff.
2)Gus had been training Mike since he was an amateur to fight Larry Holmes because they expected him to still be champion by the time Mike would become champ. So he spent years training for Larry in comparison to Larry training for him a few weeks after a two year layoff.
youre full of shit, trying to say Tyson would have lost if Larry didnt get his hand caught in the rope for 1 second....youre worse then Holmes.
Holmes is the man, without a doubt. Just goes to show that getting dropped doesn't mean you have a weak chin. He was fighting guys like Frank Bruno and Ray Mercer late in his career and was still going the distance. Only Tyson ever dropped him.
I wish Howard Cossell was still alive to see Holmes go in the Hall of Fame. Then we could see him apologize for talking about stuff he doesn't know, namely boxing.

Wladimir has no buisness on the list at all. He he is not even close to being an all time great heavyweight yet. Instead of him, you should have put Evander Holyfield, Joe Louis or even Mike Tyson on there. Heavyweights that is in the hall of fame and should actually be mentioned next to Ali, Holmes ect. What great fighter had Klitschko beaten? Lewis could do everything that he could better. Punch, outside boxer, title reign ect and he also fought the better line of fighters in a better era. Lennox took risks, Klitschko is too stiff and always ran into fighters that brought pressure on him becuase he doesn't have the stamina to hold up. He is a good fighter, but lets be serious. I just hope that the people that voted for him is not serious. :ugh:
vote and discuss?
based on Talent
Larry Holmes was the longest reigning Champ of all on that list, even with Ali's "three-peat". Ali in his prime, would have won a UD against Holmes. Holmes had a leg up on Ali, 1) Ali was passed his prime, 2) Holmes sparred with Ali when he was 22 years old, knew Ali's style, and by the time they fought, Ali was "Floating" in slow motion.
Lennox Lewis, was some what flat footed, much like Wladimir Klitschko, which gives them awesome KO power. I'd probably have to go with The Easton Assassin, Larry Holmes. Had Holmes not had a detached retina, he would have gotten the win against Holyfield. Evander won by a Split decison.
Wladimir Klitschko did fight dudes with "O" losses....Sultan Ibragimov, Calvin Brock, Samual Peter, Elisio Castillo, Chris bird at the time had only one loss, as so did alot of other fighters with less than 3 losses. I would say His greatest win....Sultan Ibragimov, for the IBF, WBO, and IBO.
Lennox Lewis was a great fighter, but retiring before your time...I'd put him last on the list.
But most Complete has to go to Wladimir Klitschko!
