He was last seen in the ring taking a butt whoopin’ from Nicaragua’s madman Ricardo Mayorga. On the public front, Fernando Vargas was seen this past weekend in Las Vegas supporting David Diaz in his failed confrontation with Manny Pacquiao.
The idol of millions of Mexican fight fans, Vargas was visibly heavier, but the “retired” boxer might be returning to the ring wars as a super middleweight. Who would be the man “Ferocious” would be facing?
Mikkel Kessler, if you are prone to believe my inside source, which is less than reliable, but at times delivers some true gems of information.
It is well known that Kessler, the best super middleweight on the planet Earth, is in need of a dance partner that could put butts in the seats and get the green light from networks such as SHOWTIME and HBO. Vargas, though battle worn and a mere shadow of his former self, still is a solid draw and would likely be approved as an opponent by network suits.
Team Kessler’s United States agent was not available for comment, but stay tuned for more information.
This is straight bullshit. Vargas is still the name between the two, Kessler aint nobody, why would Vargas fight Kessler in a comeback fight when he can still fight a REAL name and make millions.
Oh I get what you're saying. I guess it does make sense for his management to try get his name out there a little more in the meantime to possibly set up future bouts. Better than not fighting...and probably better than making a fight that would get your profession banned.
Right on dude!
I guess his management are on the lookout for an opponent. All he bigger names have dates, but Kessler wants to fight in the US next so they have to check who's available.
Kessler is mandated to defend his title within 120 days against Danilo Haussler (talk about a shot fighter :duh: ) and Kessler's management has said that they wont stage such a mismatch fearing that boxing will get banned in Denmark. So title or no title: Kessler wants to cross the pond.

Why doesnt Kessler fight WBC no 1 ranked fighter to find out who is real SMW King.
Vargas WTF. If Kessler fights him he is a pussy.
Wont happen any time soon. Kessler is out of the WBC rankings and Froch's will likely get the WBC belt by defeating an easy opponent (with Taylor likely out).
But I would like to see it although it wouldn't sell in the states.
Are you seriously trying to defend Kessler fighting Fernando fucking Vargas? This isn't 2000 anymore.
It would be disgraceful and I'd lose most of the respect I have for Kessler.

Why would he be interested in taking this fight?
This sounds like it would make sense from a financial point of view...but would he really get any recognition if he beat vargas at this point? Besides this thread/slight murmers Vargas doesn't really factor into the supper middleweight equation. I figured Kessler's motivation was to bounce back from the Zaggy defeat and get back to the top of the division. Would this be step towards that really?

I dont know what to say really. I havent seen the last 2 Vargas fights. But I reckon Kessler would go in a big fav. for sure.
Defense? I dont really have an opinion other than Vargas is a popular fighter and that the fight might sell some tickets. I couldn't say if Vargas is shot. Can you?
i can, he's shot! the power he has is not very good at 160 and up. he is only 30, but has been in alot of wars, and his chin is shot, as is he imo.

Is this going to be at a catchweight of 200 pounds?

Vargas on the background.
If his skin was lighter, he'd look like Fat Joe.
vargas is not near durable enough at this point to fight a natural smw. he will get hurt.
He did fight Mayorga last time out at 164. He's only 30 years old and his losses all came against superstars (Tito, DLH, Mosley).
