As above, he wants to challenge Samuel Peter for the WBC Heavyweight Title!!!! Fuck yeah! He could actually do that! He'd be far too fast, he just needs to avoid Peter's bombs. If toney can hang in there, so can Jones!!!!
Dunno if it'll ever happen but I actually believe he could do this! :boxing:
Source??? His interview on boxing talk!
Why does Roy always want a smaller heavy who's not the real recognised champ in the division?
Is this Ruiz II? If he did win then Reed would have "two time heavyweight champ" in his sig.
So 250 lb Sam Peter (in his last fight) is smaller than 238 lb (in his last fight) Wladimir Klitschko?
Jones would be verry lucky if he would survive 12 rounds with Peter without getting cought. But if he would do it he could surely outpoint Peter. But with his advanced age and his declining reflexes and speed i doubt he can do it. Peter is so much bigger physically it wouldnt even be funny. Jones could be hurt badly in this fight, i think it shouldnt be even allowed!
i would honestly give roy jones a good chance against peter...
Peter is much bigger than jones but peter is...well...fat...and slow.
Jones (if he fights highly defensive and puts on his running shoes) could easily decision peter...
why?
roy jones boxing skills/speed will ALWAYS be better than peter's...
only thing off the top of my head i can think of that favors peter is size and strength...everything else roy jones is superior.
it wouldnt be an exciting fight...but jones could pull out with a win.
the rjj that beat ruiz would beat peter, but rjj sits on the ropes too much now... He'll get KTFO.
Like I've always said rjj should've never went back down in weight.
see this is why Roy Jones is like the great fighters of yesterday
like Whittaker . He doesn't have to step up but he's stepping up
that's what champions do. champions don't say no i'm retiring
when there are challenges still out there.
rjj should've taken those challenges before he he got his chin broke.
Wow i would like to see what happens to roy when he gets by a powerful hook by peter? no great fighter like roy deserves that but at the same time its his fault for not retiring.

You couldnt be any futher off when talking about Roy Jones.
Ive seen the interview where he does mention Peter. BUT this is Jones doing what he did/does best TALK. Nothing will come of it. Really if thier is any boxer he should want to fight its Calzaghe. Jones cant deal with power and Calzaghe has little. Yet its still taking him forever to get the fight done, almost lost it at one point. Fighting any one decent around his weight class isnt what RJJ does.
Is there any proof that he was talking about this??
Anyway, I dont believe him. Just a few months ago he was "considering" going down to 156lbs to fight DLH. Not happening.
That was a misquote. He said 166, not 156. Get the audio.
i guess rjj hasn't learned his lesson yet.
I wish he would shut the fuck up and quit pretending he is the same fighter he was 10 years ago. Sam Peter would squash him like a grape. If Roy were to somehow beat Calzaghe, his head would once again swell to enormous proportions.

everyone knows that you can forget the two losses to nobody tarver
and johnson. that was more due to jones moving down in weight
just like chris byrd getting knocked out by shaun george, a relative
nobody. roy jones is back ... roy jones is the best p4p of our era
he fears no man.
Why forget Tarver's and Johnson's losses? Both of those guys came to Roy Jones and gave him hell in fights which most people were predicting Jones would make a statement ala Montell Griffin?
Jones just wasn't beating people to the punch like he used to when he was younger. Jones had trouble early in the Trinidad keeping the aggressor at a safe distance. I don't think Jones can afford to go to the ropes against Sam Peter. Peter is not one of the smarter or quicker heavyweights but his physical strength and physical style of fighting he can pressure Jones while Jones' legs aren't young anymore.
Calzaghe is a winnable fight for Jones if Jones can counter punch off of Calzaghe's tendency to lunge in wide with his punches. Calzaghe himself said that hes noticing signs that hes aging like getting cut more and going down. Jones is going down too but maybe if his confidence is right he can take advantage of the openings unlike the Tarver third fight.
Nobody Tarver? How in the heck can you forget the loses to Tarver and arguably the first fight also along with Glen John when in two out of the five he was KTFO?? Get outta here. So if "weight" (sighing) is still the excuse for Roy in the second fight(which was a year and 3 months after the Ruiz fight mind you), what is the excuse in the 3rd?? Was he weight drained here??

The fight he was being a damn cheerleader in. I just dont' get the discreding of Tarver. Tarver poses a style problem for Roy in that he's a rangy counter-puncher with power. That said, Roy is no push-over and I can't beleive there are people here that think Calazaghe is just going to starch Jones.
The only reason I see he was given the decision against Hopkins is that he out PITTY PATTED him. If Roy comes in like he looked against Trinidad where his speed was still there, Calazaghe better look out.
As far as Roy against Sam Peter, I dont' see what he needs to really be worried about there. A fat ass James Toney in the first fight pretty much beat him. While someone mentioned (and I agree) that Roy's defense isn't as good as Toney's, I could clearly see Roy outboxing Peter. Fuk, had Jameel McCline had more energy he was on the way to doing that.
Well, Roy's defense/chin isn't as good as the Toney that I thought beat Peter in the first fight, and I'm not sure Roy could match a 233 lb Toney's power that didn't seem able to phase Peter in that fight too much.
Could be worse, he could be contemplating Klitschko. At least Roy has a miniscule chance of out boxing the slow, clubbing Peter.
Someone with a poor chin and diminished speed shouldn't want to get hit by Sam Peter. Hopefully he'll take his UD loss from Calzaghe and learn some humility
