After a fighter makes it big he is usually flamed for 'ducking' the one fighter fans think could beat him, which usually isn't always the case:
Floyd Mayweather ducked Cotto? There still is a chance for Mayweather to beat Cotto, this isn't that one sided as many like to think
Pacquiao ducked Guzman? Pacquiao would probably beat Guzman
Calzaghe ducked Pavlik? Because Calzaghe would get annihilated, I really can't see how he stands a chance at all. Pavlik has good defense, he's right hand heavy and he throws sneaky combination's. He would destroy Calzaghe ether by a stoppage or round 10 ko.
you get the idea....

A long layoff for Floyd then coming back to fight a prime Cotto by late 2009 can spell disaster (Floyd ain't no Sugar Ray)
But I do agree Pavlik can beat Calzaghe. I just never saw the big deal with Calzaghe. He'd have to really frustrate Pavlik into throwing nonsensical punches, but he's become a lot calmer but still stays pretty active and throws accurate punches down the middle as well as hard body shots. I don't know if Calzaghe could last that long against a younger and stronger Pavlik. That's another fight that the longer it gets pushed back the worse it'll be for Calzaghe down the road if and when it happens.
Anyone remember when Joe was ducking Kessler?
Duck! Duck! Schnell! Schnell!! Whatever did happen to Jangeorg?
And remember when he was ducking Lacy? Lacy was WAY more highly rated than Pavlik is now.
Ah, happy days.
Fuck Off.. You wankers keep putting challenger after challenger infront of Joe and he goes through them all. He fights pavlick and its going to be another Lacy. Joe deserves to make some money in his last fight so he's going where the money is but I wouldnt be surprised if he fights pavlick afterall.
Pavlick would be the underdog in any case and if he was the favourite he'd still lose. He's good but he's no Calzaghe.
Roy will undoubtably prove he still has the skills to face and beat one of, if not THE, most overrated fighter in the game today. I'd be embarassed to have to look at my resume if I was JC to only find Kessler as my best fight in 45 and over 20 years combined with, what, 10 title defenses? Give me a God damn break on the Joe "Overrated" Calzaghe express. However he ends his career, I'll just be happy when he does.
Maybe, maybe not. But wouldn't you rather see him finish his career versus a young, live body in Pavlik, rather than an old, defeated one in Jones.
I would have preferred a Pavlik fight but Jones still has a chance even at this stage of his career.

old diminished skills RJJ could still beat calzaghe though, if he doesn't get the ber-nard hopkins disease and throw 1 punch per round. roy ain't what he used to be but he's still fucking fast
It makes sense to me! Calzaghe has stated in his biography that Jones is not a legend but now he is a hall of fame fighter that is the fighter of the decade. If you check this board you can find an interview of him calling out Pavlik after the Taylor fight. Now he doesn't think Pavlik deserves a shot.He even suggests Pavlik doesn't want to fight him when,Kellys camp has repeadidly called him out.
Calzaghe just wants the fight with the most money as he said himself after the Hopkins fight, Jones brings him the most money.
Yeah, but I want to see him try that's all. Cotto is also tailor made for Mayweather, but I want to see it happen, I want to see them try, this is boxing after all. Fights are won in the ring, not on paper. If we went by the paper, New England would be the Super Bowl champion, the Lakers would be the NBA champions, and on and on and on.
I would have liked to see him try as well.
But saying Calzaghe is ducking Pavlik just doesn't make sense to me.
Pavlik's style could be tailor made for Calzaghe, he thrives when a guy comes forward and throws punches because it leaves openings for himself to counter effectively.
Sigh, the fight, unfortunately, won't happen according to JC's punk Dad who has more excuses for his son than JC himself does. Agreed though, Kelly wins by easy UD or KO in 9.
Lately some of his biggest punches have been body shots. He put one body shot on Locket that looked singularly more painful than any of the head shots. And there was one body punch he gave Taylor in the second fight toward the later rounds(10 or 11 i think) that had Taylor on queer street. Fortunately there were only 30 seconds or so left in the round.
Pavlik usually just throws the one, two (jab, straight right) and keeps coming forward. That's one-dimensional IMO. I'm not saying that's a bad thing since it's worked pretty good for Kelly so far, but against a boxer who can keep adjusting like JC does, it would never win him the fight.
It is one dimensional. If done correctly with a height advantage, it is also unstoppable. That's why they TEACH fighters to fight that way.
I wouldn't blame you for thinking that BUT Pavlik has shown no counter abilities whatsoever and I honestly believe nobody can beat Calzaghe unless they can counter/time him which is not easy because he's an awkward southpaw.
Dude... he's not going to counter him. Pavlik would control the ring. I'm not going to say Pavlik would definitely win the fight... but I don't think Pavlik would be the guy backing up. I think... it would look alot like the Kessler fight... with Pavlik throwing more than Kessler did.
Taylor is not better than Kessler.
Even if he was, you can't use the triangle theory, it just won't work.
Pavlik has a style that Calzaghe can easily expose.
Kessler is another protected fighter, who has he beaten that can even match the guys on Taylors resume? Taylor would more than likely beat Calzaghe, so Pavlik would probably as well.
Pavlik would get well beaten by Calzaghe but I wouldn't call him one-dimensional.
