If Kelly Pavlik beats Abraham it will quell much of my doubt in him. Still, nobody with that McKart knockdown?
An excerpt taken from HBO:
1ST NABF M TITLE DEFENSE - on 7-27-06 in Uncasville, CT, he TKO'd former WBO jr. middleweight world champion Bronco McKart (48-6): Kelly had the edge in the early rounds, but McKart scored a knockdown when both of Kelly's gloves touched the canvas in the 4th - replays showed that Kelly fell forward, off-balance, after a glancing blow to his shoulder; but Kelly rallied and rocked McKart in the 5th round, then scored a knockdown with a series of punches and cut McKart over his right eye in the 6th; Kelly scored another knockdown with another series of punches later in the round - McKart got up, but the referee stopped the fight at 2:45; after the fight, Kelly said, "I think I ruined his whole game-plan. When he felt my power in the first round, I threw him off his plan. I figured, 'Eventually you're going to get tired and not me,' and that's what happened. We always train to keep the pace. In the fifth round, my trainers noticed he was keeping his elbow up. I just touched him under the elbow and snuck in another shot. I've been doing this for six years, and this was a convincing win. The way I won, it has to open doors, but all I can do is pray to the boxing gods."...
I don't remember it exactly like that, but I do remember he wasn't hurt and he didn't go down from a solid shot.
I'm not sold on Pavlik. I like the guy- he's fairly humble, doesn't talk shit- works hard in the ring to win. Who can't appreciate that? Still, some of the flaws I see worry me. He has a tendency to get caught- and I'm not just referring to the Taylor fight. Here's my thing:
I'm fairly sure that Pavlik was done against McKart. If so, that's something to worry about. Does anyone have that fight? I don't need someone confirming or denying that he was on the canvas, I'd like to re watch the fight. I don't remember what type of punch it was, or how hurt Kelly was- I'm just fairly sure that I recall seeing the footage before Pavlik's fight with Taylor- and that he got hurt. Any help?
Kelly wasn't hurt. I remember seeing the replay of that fight on Versus...Pavlik touched the canvas from some sort of glancing blow but it was nothing solid. He went over kind of awkwardly and his glove touched the canvas or something. That was awhile ago though...if anyone can post a clip it'd jog both of our memories.
Pavlik did go down from a left hook against Zuniga though. He was a bit more buzzed from that one. Zuniga is a good, kinetic type of fighter. Abraham isn't in constant motion like that, but he does have a good left hook...maybe something to look out for.
Pavlik by decision. I think he'll take what Abraham gives him (no homo) and he'll just outwork Arthur. Abraham is a good fighter, he'll certainly have his moments, but I think Pavlik will emerge victorious.
Kelly's underrated body attack will set him apart in this fight.
i agree , but see maybe a late ko/tko for pavlik, or the ud.

This is a match-up that's got to happen. Soon.
Pavlik will not be able to kayo AA. Heck nobody can! But he can win a decision if he settles down and dominate AA from a distance. AA has a bad habit of taking large chunks of rounds off and that's got to cost him at some point down the line and if Pavlik is the first big name to try AA he might win a decision on sheer workrate.
Of course AA will always be dangerous. Right untill the final bell. So a KO for AA cannot be ruled out as Pavlik seems a little fragile on the whiskers.

Miranda I'll give you, although he frickin' BEAT Abraham in their first fight, no matter what the judges said. (Everyone seems to be suffering from memory loss concerning that first bout.)
Taylor twice bested Hopkins (who was 3 years younger and much better than the version Calzaghe squeaked by) and fought to a draw against Winky, another top P4P guy. It boggles my mind that you are so dismissive of Kelly's two wins over him.
Also, for everyone saying that Jermain Taylor hurt Kelly....yes, he did, but Pavlik had dropped his gloves and began to do some uncharacteristic showboating when he got caught. He will not make that mistake again, and I see very few (if any) guys being able to hurt him otherwise. Just ask Nate Campbell what can happen when you get a little too cocky for your own good (Robbie Peden, anyone?).
i agree 100%
i dont understand how Abraham nuthuggers try to discredit pavliks win when the best fighter abraham faced was miranda! :nonono:
also the fact that miranda/abraham are 1-1 makes me think- wtf
I just think that there has been a bit of a gap between the perception of how good Taylot and Miranda are and how good they actually are, and that that gap has flattered Pavlik a little.
He is good, and I hope he gets better, I just don't think he's really the P4P guy that some make out.

Abraham's defense and power are impressive. I would give Abraham a slight edge but tough one to call.
tough one to call, if abraham thinks he is gonna be in defense mode all night,
he is gonna get pavlik will come and let those hands go,
plus he is tall and those 1-2 combinations will break abraham's jaw once again

I'm a huge Pavlik fan so I would be rooting for him but beyond that I could not say with any assuredness that he absolutely would win. In any case I am looking forward to this match.
Abraham has never been down in his career....hurt yes, but not knocked down. he only had his jaw broken
Styles make fights and I see Abrahams style feeding rigth into Pavliks style

Pavlik takes this fight... if it goes to the scorecards its going to be a very wide decision imo. Kelly will take rounds for workrate and more punches landing and being thrown all night with Abraham having some moment but Abraham is not going to take kelly out im willing to bet the ranch on this the kid from youngstown has too much fire and heart inside of him.
Abraham being stronger than JT- :nonono:
Abraham is proberbly is stronger that Taylor, it's his build it's very stocky with strong legs, Taylor is a more athletic build.
um actually the FIRST AA fight. the doc said "his jaw is broke, he cant continue"..Miranda shouldve gotten the W.
you said he was "GARBAGE".. he has lost to arguably the two BEST MW's in the WORLD. OH YEAH, SO HE is grabage now, cuz Mel said so...
i already apologized, relax homay
yeah, we can play the woulda, coulda game all day. i'm relaxed, trust.
dude.. he is a good boxer.. he has beatin good fighters. he just can get ktfo..
its boxing.
who are you to say he is garbage with a good punch? thats ignorant.
sorry if I offended you its just ignorant statements bring that outta me.
no it's not ignorant man. it's true. edison is not a good boxer in relation to the pavlik, AA's of his era. He is not good enough to beat the top guys. He has been exposed as an exciting, powerful slugger. nothing wrong with it, but a good boxer he is not. if he was, he would have beaten kelly and arthur. don't care if you agree, you opinion is yours, just as mine is mine, but don't come at me like a dick.
