Just a little news tidbit. He was on ESPNews just a minute ago and was asked if he thought MMA would overtake boxing. Usually when someone interviews a boxer...whether a retired former champ or a current star...the answer is usually the same. "Never. MMA is a fad. Boxing has history. Boxing is an art and takes real skill.... yadda yadda yadda." Same old BS everytime.
Was pleasantly surprised that Hagler told it like it is and accepted it. Mentioned the star power, or lack thereof in the boxing world. Said that if you asked someone on the street to name 10 active boxers they probably couldn't...but would be able to name off 10 MMA fighters.
Of course I also have to add that he mentioned he wasn't not a fan of the sport...which makes his statement that much bigger, in my eyes.
Just wanted to pass this along.

First of all the average person on the street can't even name 10 football players much less either 10 boxers or 10 mma dudes. So, we need to keep that perspective. Second, I really don't care if Hagler says its going to happen. That's nothing against Hagler, but it'll only happen if MMA expands beyond the current crop of 30+ fighters they have and continues to grow, which is debatable. It's not impossible, but it's hard to say it's not going to take a step back when its current stars age.
Third, the demise of boxing is greatly exaggerated by MMA fans. So, even if MMA becomes mainstream we still have our sport to ourselves the way we've always had it.
Will never happen, the sooner alot of you accept they are two different sports the sooner these stupid threads will cease to exist.
Boxing is Boxing, MMA is MMA.
Boxing is a fist fight between the best fist fighters in the world.
Kickboxing is a fight between the best Kickboxers in the world.
MMA is a fight between the best MMA fighters in the world.
Why would he say that? Because HE FUCKING HATES BOXING. He hasn't been in a gym since Ray leonard he felt he was robbed. Then he moved to Italy. This is a guy that never got the respect he deserved, boxing wasn't very good to Marvin.
Thats all true.
Besides he didnt say "Boxing was going to be taken over by MMA"
He just agreed that it does have some star power these days.
savate.
french kickboxing supposedly developed when french sailors in southeast asia observed thai kickboxers training.

very nice looking and very graceful due to less clinching compared to muay thai due to no elbows and knees.
If you thought Arthur Abraham was badass 4 beating Miranda with a broken jaw there's a savate champ that came back from having both arms broken and still knocked out his opponent using just his legs. I 4get what the guy's name is but he's now a MMA ref somewhere
savate is very nice on the eyes. very graceful.
too bad they don't utilize the knees and elbows of muay thai. do you know if they changed that shady? i know they didn't have elbows and knees before do you think they've added it since?
read what it says.
marvin hagler DOESN'T like mma.
the guy is just giving his opinion.
he's not trying to rep mma.
besides doesn't he live in france and italy? the french weren't really big fans of boxing were they? they like judo and savate (french kickboxing) over there so maybe he's seeing it from the french view? the italians don't have a great history in boxing either except for italian-american boxers. unless you count primo carnera.
