Lovemore N'dou - lost to Junior witter. Enough said.
Corley - a gatekeeper almost KO'd Cotto
Torres - took the fight on short notice and almost put Cotto away
Branco - lost to Gatti. Enough said.
Malignaggi - 7-1 underdog going into the fight and has received two gift decisions in his last two fights. Also not known as anywhere near a big puncher, he had Cotto hurt.
Quintana - we all saw his last fight.
Urkal - lol
Judah - who hasn't beaten this guy
Mosley - was a great fighter, but his last big win was against Oscar in '03. A fight most thought he lost.
Gomez - that's right, Alfonso Gomez.
mosley is past his prime and hasnt won a big fight in 5 years. he has done nothing impressive as a welterweight. he was a great fighter many years ago but now hes just a name and a shell of his old self. margarito is in his prime right now and he has more stamina a better chin and way more power than mosley. margarito will clearly be the best opponent cotto has faced by far!!
um...I agree...
*hides in shame*
What's the point of your thread? That Cotto hasn't fought anybody and Margarito is his 1st real challenge? :pat:
I always ask the question, "Who would you have rather him fought?" Nobody can seem to answer that question...:dunno:
If I recall mad people here were picking Zab & Mosley to beat Cotto. I wonder what the excuse will be after July 26th (Crabs...)
My point is that most every fighters resume can be questioned.
Just to be clear with the thread starter what you did to Cotto's resume can be done to every fighter to ever lace up the gloves. Having said that I'm from the school of thought that believes Cotto's lackluster performances at 140 against Torres and Corley were in part because of the severe strain he put on his body trying to make weight and he is facing the best something severely lacking in this sport nowadays. I can't comfortably pick a winner in this fight and I think the majority of boxing writers will agree. However in this forum 99 percent of Mexicans think Marg will rape Cotto and say he's an overhyped, chinless, midget who has no idea what it is to face a guy "with no regard for human life". Whatever that means. On the flipside 99% of my people are picking Cotto because Marg is a shit, 1 dimensional WW bum with 5, count em 5 losses who would have 6 if it wasn't for Clottey getting injured. They're logic is laughable considering they're degrading their fighters performance should they win or lose and because it's simply not true. Mosley was Cotto's first big test IMO and Marg will be his biggest test. Mosley is the better fighter but Marg's style in addition to his size, height, strength and wingspan pose a more dangerous fight to Cotto than Mosley did. Styles make fight, nuff said. 3 of Marg's losses I choose to discount because those were all before he turned 20 years of age. I'm predicting Cotto to win by UD in an action packed fight but again I'm not comfortable with that prediction just my best guess the reason being I see a ton of different scenarios playing out. 1 thing I do acknowledge is this is Cotto's first fight with a legitimate, strong natural WW and this will answer a lot of questions I have as to how relevant he is in this division and obviously how good he is.

No, no more tests for Cotto, he's old and experienced enough. I say go out there and make the best of it. He should beat Margarito with little trouble just because he's so much faster. Now Mayweather is out of the game i think Cotto will run out of opponents soon. Lets see, there is Berto, who is still too fresh, Hoya who will wisely avoid Cotto and pick Trinidad up as if to call us all stupid, because that fight wouldn't mean anything since neither of them would go on to do anything really, Williams could probably beat Cotto if he trains hard just because he's fast enough for Cotto and Cotto is open to hooks when he goes to the body, he likes to wait to see the effect of his punches specially when he lands power punches, that will cost him eventually. But Williams is being rushed to middleweight (can you believe this shit, talk about a waste of talent, i hope they don't regret it). Down the road i see Gamboa becoming either an hard hitting gatekeeper or a star depending on how he evolves, for now he looks great but i know little about him as of now.:wave:
i can agree with that. not taking nothing from ssm, but he is past it, and no one up to this point he has fought will have been this tough an oppt. a few may have been more skilled than marg, yes, but the toughness, and never quit in marg is something cotto will not have seen before. i think he will find out alot about cotto in this fight!

because the fight did more for paulies career than cottos, most people remember malignaggis courage than they do cottos win. it sounds odd, but im serious.
Exactly. And I as I mentioned earlier, I thought I remembered Cotto being upset that he had to fight Paulie. So if you think you're that much better than the guy, and don't want to fight, then why fight?

Mosley was Cotto's first big test. Margarito is a B level fighter and has failed everytime he's gotten on the big stage.

Wha? I don't think you can put Margarito above Mosley.
No it is actually true. Many people believed Cotto was just a brawler with power. Even Floyd said that Mosley would stop Cotto late, everyone believed guys like Zab would be to fast and slick for Cotto, but Cotto was able to adjust to it & compensate with timing. Even Quintana was picked over Cotto in Puerto rico, I think there was only one trainer who had Cotto to win the fight out of 4-5 trainers.
Cotto was still a heavy favorite against both of them, i bet on both of those fights.
Why not take the fight?? Maligaggi talked mad shit as well. I found it exciting he broke Malignaggis face and put him down on the canvas. I havent seen to many guys put Paulie down like that.
Every win you add to the resume makes you that much more marketable especially from a skilled boxer like Paulie.

Please dude,
Every person here who hates on Cotto or was the least bit skeptical was picking Judah & Mosley to beat Cotto. Now that he's beaten them people try to mock or discredit his wins.
I've said it before...Cotto will need to beat the Cloverfield Monster to get any respect (if that).
But keep trying though...we're going on 2 yrs of doubters continuing on hoping for a Cotto loss LOL.
After July 27th we'll see this thread
"Was Margarito really a Big Challenge for Cotto?"
It'll never end. But again, keep tryin.
That's your problem. You actually think people on this site give objective opinions. Look on any website with writers that actually cover boxing, or look at any sportsbook, and you will see that Cotto was the clear favorite in Judah and Quintana.
1>He acually won those, even if you dont agree with that.
2>He would lose the rubber match based on what theory? Any fighter can have a poor night.
3>Word.
4>Judah was great, just not discipline. They both fought at JWW and moved up to WW. Thats why it is relevent.
5>There is no one that has KO'd Mosley and he has been in every fight he has ever lost, so that would be considered the point. It is a big acomplishment beating Mosley. No shame in winning a decision either.
6>I like Gomez man and he didnt quit. lol
1) I can dig it
2) Based on my theory that Paul is a better fighter.
3) Word
4) Judah was never great.
5) Sure it's a big accomplishment beating Mosley, but what does the fact that Mosley has never been KO'd have to do with that win. Absolutely nothing.
6) ................................
No true fan of boxing believes this.

Every point you made has a flip side....
A) Shows he can be hit and hurt
B) Accused of taking rounds off and fading late in the fight
C) Couldn't finish the guy
D) Anyone that keeps coming at Judah will win
a- margarito has been hurt 2 - shit .. i guess everyone who BOX . can get hit and hurt.. but not everyone has the balls to get up and ktfo your opponent 2 rounds later..
b- agree... but. (tony = slow starter) so i guess the rounds that cotto takes off equalize those tony dont put pressure... isn't that the same?
c- Just like i was... i bet u were pretty impressive by the amount of punishment paulie took that night... he's a tsob... he prove wrong a lot of ppl that night.. even with that loss he's worldclass
d- i dont care about this wanna be gangsta.... no tiene diciplina..... es un sube y baja...
BUT.... staying to the thread...
I think it is the biggest test but not the first... :boxing:
