Even if it was just Lockett who people didn't really rate, Pavlik boxed beautiful tonight. So with Floyd gone and the top pound for pound having to be re-thought do Pavlik fans have a great argument for that number one spot? Is Pavlik the top pound for pound active fighter? List your top five active fighters...
I would put Pavlik in the top five, and why not?
His personality hasn't attached itself to the fans but his record speaks for itself. I'm surprised more posters here haven't marveled at this tall skinny white kid knocking out Miranda, Taylor, and his first mandatory with straight forward boxing. Jabs and crosses and uppercuts. I'd say his chin has been tested and approved.
I'd say he could beat Wright, Calzaghe, and Hoya. I agree that the lower weight classes are overflowing with talent. But I'd also say that our Middleweight champion with a perfect record (over 90% KO) is the closest thing to what boxing really craves:an exciting heavyweight who finishes all fights in impressive fashion.

nah I still think he barely cracks the top 10. The lower weight classes have so many phenomenal fighters that make Pavlik, JoeC and even Cotto look humble IMO. Just making the top 10 shows they are talented though.
