Who the fuck is Manny Pacquiao? He must be some asian dude cause I've never heard of him.
historians will know him a lot more than joe i'll tell you that.
you'll see manny's name in at least 3 maybe 4 sections in the boxing hof book.
he'll have his section. he'll be mentioned in erik and marco's section and probably marquez's section.
calzaghe he'll probably have his section but where else is he gonna be mentioned? hopkins. that's about it. although i'm not sure about eubank. is chris in the hof?
Looks like Pacquiao won the poll....I voted for Calzaghe, but I think it's a toss up, I would have no problem with Pacman at #1 either....We'll see how well Pacman does against Diaz, if he struggles with a weak title holder like Diaz than Calzaghe should be #1 p4p...Calzaghe is probably gonna fight Pavlik, if he beats Pavlik he will be #1 p4p for sure.
Calzaghe or Pacquiao??
Vote and Discuss
pacquiao is #1 by default... but also because:
excitement - pacquiao is more exciting than calzaghe
resume - pacquiao has beaten more p4p fighters
skills - calzaghe has better skills but not by much
Looks like Pac won it. Even at other Websites Pac won it by Poll.
Ring Magazine, Yahoo sports and all media has Pac at number 2 and obvious will be the number 1..
He will be the number 1 P4P guy..
For Calzaghe?
Where he has been during the the prime of Jones, Hopkins or even Trinidad, Wright and Vargas and Toney when they were at Middleweight.. I forgot, Joe has his Ass paste in Wales.
Hopkins ducked him, Toney was a cruiserweight, Trinidad, Wright and Vargas would all have been discredited as being too small for SMW (since Calzaghe couldn't have gone any lower) and as for Jones, he himself has said that back then, he wanted nothing to do with Calzaghe.
What more could Joe have done?
Who else could he have possibly fought?
Because America seems to think they own the sport of boxing.
it has nothing to do with that. everyone has their biases. obviously americans has seen americans more.
the brits have a higher view of say calzaghe because of the same reason. they've watch most of his fights while most outside of britain has only seen a few.
it's human nature.
as far as americans owning boxing. america is a big part of boxing. the money is in america so that's where everyone fights. money as they say makes the world go round.
who cares about asia?
what does it matter what continent has the p4p #1?
shouldn't be part of the discussion.
Because America seems to think they own the sport of boxing.
Erik Morales X 2, Marco Antonio Barrera X2, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar Larios, Ledwaba, Sasakul
vs
Eubank, Hopkins, Kessler and Lacy
WTF??!!!!!!! and you tell Pac supporters to be objective???
It's time the world acknowledged Asia as having the world P4P#1
who cares about asia?
what does it matter what continent has the p4p #1?
shouldn't be part of the discussion.
You still havent answered my question. Under what grounds should Pacquiao have been behind Calzaghe??
If there are grounds for ranking Calzaghe above Pacqiao, and just so you know, I neither know nor care if there are, they are his unbeaten record, ten year reign as champ and the way he has achieved these things, which as Luke has pointed out, has basically involved beating all but two opponents he has faced pretty one-sidedly. I know there are objections to Calzaghe based on strength of resume, but even if we disregard quality of opponent completely, his length of reign, number of defences and of course the fact he is currently Ring Champ a two weights have to count as pretty impressive, since virtually no other boxer in history has matched him. That is a fact.
If you do choose to object to Joe's greatness on grounds of resume, you should realise that fighters like Reid, Woodhall, Mitchell, Brewer and Sheika are consistently listed in Ring Magazine's annual top 10 rankings during Joe's reign and he beat all of them, plus the two prime, ranked champs that were supposed to beat him in Lacy and Kessler. He also beat a great champ, Chris Eubank when he was just 25 years old to take his title. In the case of virtually any other fighter in the world (see fighters like Cotto for a current example) this type of record is enough to get you on the P4P list alone, without being long reigning or undefeated, and Joe Calzaghe has been in this position for years now, along with having achievements virtually no other fighter can match.
So you asked me how he could be ranked above Pacqiao and I told you, but whether he absolutely is or not, I don't know, but I'm sure we can agree that Calzaghe has done things that Pacqiao hasn't done, and the same is true the other way around. Both have a very strong case and the best I hope for in making this post is to make see that. I hope that I have.
