Why do people think so highly of Antonio Margarito?

I mean I suppose that's a fair point but my counterpoint is that there about maybe one or two heavyweights in this era that get themselves in best possible condition. It's an underachieving class; the comparison is kinda dumb. Since Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe, Lewis etc, that class is full of underachievers physically. I think you have to compare them as such. For a heavyweight nowadays, Danny Williams got himself into good condition (maybe not right now since he's on the decline). Marg does the same thing for a WELTERWEIGHT. Compare Marg's conditioning to Pacs. Pacquiao's conditioning is outstanding, just like Margarito's. His focus, not so much. But Pacquiao is one of the top 5 in boxing so any comparison is flattering.

Anton will NOT beat Cotto, I have it Cotto by late TKO Quintana, Judah, Mosley all these fighters were suppose to be defeat Cotto but they all lost, People forget that Cotto gets BETTER with each fight, he's still only 27 and trust me he's training hard becasue he has a lot to lose, his undefeated record and not just that, he has a whole country on his back and that he's fighting for, it's not time to pass the torch yet, Cotto is still currently the best in PR, Margarito will be a tough fight but then again he already lost so he doesn't have as much pressure on him to win and besides Ant is getting a vry good pay day. On July 26, all the doubters will become fansat the sight of Cotto breaking Margarito, all of Margarito's body advantages don't matter, he's an inside fighter he doesn't use his reach or height.... With the exception of Mosley being a slight fav, I believe Cotto was the the favorite in those three fights. I could be wrong.

There are plenty of Marg fans that think he is an elite boxer. And there are plenty that think if he throws everything he has at Cotto he will win. Margarito's biggest strengths are the fact he apparently cannot be hurt, let alone KOd and the fact that he is a heavy puncher with a high workrate. He will come after you all night long, take whatever you throw at him and if you let him hit you, you will be hurt. Its a recipe for success against almost any boxer out there, as Margarito has proved time and time again. His only really bad loss is his one to Paul Williams, in what was basically a style matchup so bad for Tony I'm surprised he took the fight. He was too slow to hit Williams and got embarassed, but even in that fight he finally caught up with him and handed out some pretty heavy punishment, but it was a case of little, too late. His loss to Santos was a cuts stoppage in a fight that he might easily have won and the others came when he was 18 and younger, so not too much should be read into them. He is a threat to Cotto because despite what his fans say, Cotto is no boxer, like Tony he wins his fights by breaking down his opponents with concussive blows from close and medium range. Though Cotto will try to back off Tony and box him, at some point he has to get close enough to hit him and the punishment these two dish out virtually guarantees that in the late rounds they will be tired and there will be extended stretches of them standing toe to toe and punching. Whether Cotto's chin is 'suspect' or not, it is very unlikely to be as strong as Margarito's and there is a huge possibility that this scenario favours Margarito to win by KO. Margarito definitely has a chance in this fight, so big a chance in fact that I am unable to pick a winner. It might turn out that Cotto really is the superstar talent everyone thinks he is and takes Margarito apart, but if he isn't it could be a very different story. The only thing I am certain of is that this will be one of the toughest fights in either fighters career.

Margarito fans know what he's capable of and what he isn't. the man comes to fight and thats what he does. no one here is saying Tony is going to outbox Cotto or Mayweather. but everyone knows Margo is going to throw everything he has at them. I doubt whether those other two boxers you mention come anywhere near Margarito when it comes to conditioning, dedication, and workrate. Well at least I know that Williams doesn't.

I'm so confident that Cotto is gonna win that I've got all my points on him winning with Addison. Do you just discount the Williams and Santos performances? Durability as in ability to block punches with his face and keep up coming. Stamina, as in throwing, be it flush or wide miss, over and over. Strength. He's one tough WW. He has the right tools to walk right through punches and overwhelm his opposition.
