Mayweather has accomplished a helluva lot more than Hatton has. If you're of the opinion that Collazo beat Ricky he's 0-2 at his second weight division whereas Mayweather has scaled five with no defeats. In terms of respect, a lot of people respect Hatton for putting it on the line and the style he fights in, but I think most people know in their hearts that they respect Mayweathers sheer abilities

Back to the question, as a fighter PBF is more respected. He is generally considered the best P4P fighter in the world, and his resume is much better than that of Hatton's. Ricky doesn't even have enough respect for the game to stay in somewhat decent shape in between fights. Respected as a person? Depends on who you ask.

And the point about Witter is that he was never anywhere near as good as Hatton and him constantly calling Hatton out pissed Hatton off to the point he didn't want to fight him, which I think is fair enough. Hatton is not that much better than Witter. I think it would be a close fight.

Hatton is on a different level to Witter in terms of fanbase and revenue he could offer other fighter but in terms of boxing ability we would never know until they fight each other. I'm not a particularly big critic of Mayweather. As P4P #1 I believe he has every right to pick and choose his defences, as I believe every single fighter in the sport does it, and Floyd has achieved more than most. If he really doesn't want to fight Cotto he doesn't have too, I'm certain he would beat him anyway. I just don't deny that if Mayweather wants to be this ATG he's always talking about then he needs to start having some fights, and Cotto is the best available challenger. Everyone wants to see the fight and I'm no exception. As for Hatton, this is a guy who in his last big fight was seen as a credible challenger to the P4P#1, who has beaten Tsyzu at 140 and even won a welter belt against lesser, but still good opposition. There is no way on earth that Junior Witter is either the most deserving challenger to take a shot at Ricky, (that is Paulie Malignaggi or even Bradley himself) or the most likely opponent top defeat him (Malignaggi again, I think). He isn't now, and he wasn't before. Sure it might be an interesting fight to see, but I see no argument that Witter has earned the right to make the fight, his own merits are not good enough and Hatton's other options are not only more deserving, but more appealing to Hatton himself.

It's a long climb to get back on it. There's a difference between getting a title shot after a loss and rematching the fighter that beat you. A further difference is that in a rematch Hatton can offer Floyd a 100,000 fan megafight in a stadium. I'm not sure that 15 spectators, a dog and some kid who got lost on his way to the changing rooms at the Doncaster Dome holds quite the same allure. Among the boxing community Floyd is rightly repsected for his ability and his achievements. Outside of that Hatton is more respected for his personality, willingness to make fun of himself and his unwillingness to give up after a loss while, as was pointed out above, Floyd has taken some care in presenting his persona as some sort of rapper (although he isn't the best at portraying that image, he comes across like the third member of Kriss Kross.)

Over the years Witter carried on talking about it so loud and so often that the idea buried itself in our brains, bypassing our rational thought circuitry until suddenly Hatton - Witter seemed like a good fight. Then Witter got hammered by Bradley and we saw that he'd been shit all along. All along, Witter and his promoter have been talking up a Hatton fight because they knew Witter was not a top level boxer and the only big payday that would ever be available to him was a domestic clash against the bona fide superstar Hatton, which he would lose. Mayweather or Hatton I think hatton has the general fans respect overall... He's absolutely LOVED in england and floyd is hated almost everywhere by many. I think it comes to personality with these two and hatton appears to be the much more humble; down to earth guy. Floyd comes across as infatuated with money, and has no conern to give the fans what they want to give a reasonable top welterweight fighter a shot at him. I think in terms of legacy floyd has completely beat out hatton...he's a multi-division champ and while some question his level of competition from time to time winning titles in X amount of weight classes is STILL beating good competition. But as i said if were talking about fans opinion only then hatton is more respected. I mean he sold 55K for a tune-up fight...floyd couldnt sell 55K for a tune-up fight...never.

Floyd is hated so much that people are startin to lose respect for him, but for now he's more respected than Hatton. Losin by KO to PBF, duckin Witter then sayin after he got beat he blew his chance, then lookin like shit against Lazcano and almost gettin dropped hurt his rep bad.

Mayweather as of late. People on here completely jumped off the bandwagon for Hatton. Atleast most of them did.
