People overlook the home advantage part of boxing.
Americans get it their own way, what would happen if they were the ones travelling from their own comfort zone around the world to fight?
Not enough is made of this. Lets look at Bernard Hopkins for example, He decisioned some 8-8-1 bum in Paris and got a draw against a very unlucky Segundo Mercado who knocked Hopkins flat on his ass twice.
What happens when americans have crossed the boarder to fight?
Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy and Nigel Benn vs Gerald Mcclellan comes to mind...:tapedshut
I predicted Mayweather would win a UD you ass hole, I've also said many times on this board that Mayweather would get KOed by Cotto and other opponents (which I didn't mean) winding up Flomos is just fun...
I'd have scored it for Hopkins if he had thrown at anything approaching a decent volume, he did land the better shots. As it was he was outlanded by Joe massively, even if they weren't the best punches. Throw in the fact that Joe was the one forcing the pace and I'd say it was a clear Calzaghe win.
Since you like Kessler and Calzaghe, I'm guessing you're expecting a much better performance from Joe if he fights Pavlik?
Sure i will. The best match up for Calzaghe to. He for so long again and again said, that the big US-fighters were afraid to meet him. If Calzaghe is a man of words, he shouldn't take on the "old" Jones or Winky, but force his way to fight Pavlik or Taylor. Now it is all up to team Calzaghe and Warren, they are in the driving seat and can demand who to fight.
I wasn't that worried - i read and respect your opinions.
About Hopkins and Calzaghe i just think, that this is a fight that split boxing fans and judges in how to score a fight. And i think the more precise, hard hits, wining the in fight and controlling of the fight is all about boxing - the noble art of self-defense.
I saw a great fighter - Calzaghe - showboating, low blows, happy slapping, and hitting air all night and a trainer in all out frustrations.
I am a Kessler fan - so obviously i don't like trash talkers like Mundine, Miranda and Hopkins.
I just think Calzaghe lose.

I was only playing. I too am a big Kessler fan, only for the love of God, someone needs to make him start fighting!

I never said Hatton would win so that's complete BS.
Find me that post please. If I did say it, I wouldn't have ment it and just used it in a UK vs USA discussion to piss off the yanks.
On here and ESB before the fight i stated more than ones, that the only win for Hopkins would be a TKO/KO. I asked Hopkins fans to explain how they could see Hopkins win a single round against Calzaghe. Please check it out.
Before and under the fight i routed for Calzaghe - but honestly, i think Calzaghe lost this fight, and in 10 years it will be commonsense.
And yes i am a Kessler fan.

Now why oh why would you feel the need to criticise Joe Calzaghe, Jan?
I just can't work it out!! :boxing:

To Ricki and the thread - i think also, that fighting away is a big issue. When US fighters and US-known fighter lose in EU, they are robbed. When EU-fighters in US lose, they are EU-trash????
And to natas206. Miranda lost the first fight and will lose the second fight. He and his fans has succeed to convince, that Miranda was robbed - but actually he just lost to a better fighter. You will all see come June 21.
If you predicted that - you was absolutely wright. A lot of the press and media, Enzo and i saw it the same way. Only 2 judges out of 3 were impressed with Calzaghe moving a lot of air. I guess they were kind of old and found it refreshing!.

For the forth time Ricardo, I predicted a very close fight, with hopkins getting the nod. I also predicted Hopkins knocking down calzaghe in the early rounds, so again, my prediction wasn't off by much at all. I didn't think Hopkins would have tired as much as he did in the late rounds, which imo, cost him the fight.

how much "off" does it have to be?!
I mean you did pick the WRONG fighter to win...
So I'm guessing you think Winky Wright is a bum too, correct?
Using his logic, yes.
Certainly not my logic. But when you're so much of a Calzaghe nuthugger that you diss Hopkins that bad...what does that say about Calzaghe? He can beat terrible fighters?
popkins would NEVER fight anyone like kessler, lacy or eubank, unless he split the pot
75-25% is his favor!!!
popkins struggled with journey men and never really dominated anyone, calzaghe is at least ranked 50 spots higher than popkins in terms of all time greatness, many people here are completely brainwashed by the american hype!
LMAO. So what you're saying is that Calzaghe likes to fight OLD bums with unimpressive resumes? And barely gets by them?
So I'm guessing you think Winky Wright is a bum too, correct?
popkins has got to have one of the least impressive resumes in the game, he did nothing but fight blown up welterweights, he fought a real opponent like calzaghe and he got dominated, i don't understand how he could have any fans!

i understand and agree that fighting outside your country puts you at a disadvantage...
but at the same time i seen STRONG bias in the hatton/lazcano fight.
in no way did i expect lazcano to win but the scoring of 12 rounds to none was COMPLETELY UNFAIR...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
Joe Calzaghe
Winky Wright
Antonio Tarver
Glen Johnson
Roy Jones
Trinidad
ODH
Jermain Taylor
And of course had the belts for 10 years and during that time period never even seen a single scorecard 116-112, meaning he beat all his opponents easy.
Joe Calzaghe-nearly send popkins to the ER
Winky Wright-he's not a true middleweight and popkins won by a hair
Antonio Tarver-way too inconsistent, i wouldn't call him anything but one-hit wonder!
Glen Johnson-i'll give you glen, so far he beat one fighter his weight division
Roy Jones-roy toyed with popkins
Trinidad-welterweight, try again
ODH-started career at like 130 pounds, try again
Jermain Taylor- lost to him twice!!! LOL!
looks to me like you just pwned yourself!
