i wanted to match them up at a cruiserweight division, but decided to go with heavyweight, because it's more fun that way
holyfield was an old school heavyweight. by that i mean, coming from 175 pounds, then cruiserweight he was still a very light heavyweight by today standards, but he proved that size doesnt stop you from standing toe to toe with a giant like Bowe
rocky was also small, and much smaller man than evander. a pressure fighter, a slugger, a puncher. a street fighter with heart. never took no for an answer. threw punches non stop in every round. went 15 rounds only once. undefeated through entire career!
both were probably one of the most conditioned fighters in the history of boxing. We know about rocky's months of training and sacrificing at training camps away from the family. We know evander's work ethic and conditioning kept him succesful while moving up
both had extraordinary will to win, never backed down, never feared anyone, and both had granite chins. this is too good
who would want it more?
i also read a couple of other posts by Thunder Lips in the past and he said that the only fighters he would give a chance of beating rocky are Klitschko and Tunney......WTF
so the other fighters would all loose to marciano? That's what i dont like about certain fans. the way they idolize the other fighter because of his status as an all time great.
personally i see guy like klitschko, bowe, lewis, foreman, tyson, and plenty of other heavyweights knocking out marcianio
in truth marciano just wasnt a heavyweight by today's standards. he'll be a magnificent cruiserweight, but challenging the big boys he would fail.
too much size, strength, and power
My exact quote and this isn't that fucking old:
"I would give Tunney, Foreman, and Liston the best shot at beating Rocky."
from the Rocky vs. Tua thread.
How does Klitschko equal Foreman and Liston? If we're talking Wlad I said Rocky would butcher him when that topic was brought up some time ago. Since you follow my posts so closely you can dig it up if you like. What the hell type of Freudian slip was that buddy?
Marciano was human and there are plent of other fighters I would give a chance of beating him. I would just favor those three because of how they match up.
I'm not sure I'm even going to bother with the "bigger man" thing anymore since everyone has done misquoted that to hell and back and completely overlooked what I originially said and what I was arguing. Duffgun isn't dense and he understood, maybe the rest of you should reread what I wrote and take a hint?
I mean no shit the 215-220 lb Holyfield was "bigger" than Rocky. But when fighting closer to his natural weight at the beginning of his career, Holyfield was only in the 180 range. The shorter, stockier Marciano trained like hell to hover around 190 and below in his first few fights after cutting out all weight lifting in his training. It took Holyfield 13 years to bulk up into 210+ range and had health problems and activity gaps ever since. Outside of his inspired win against Tyson he never looked comfortable carrying all that weight.
But if Kiltschko equals Foreman/Liston I can see where the trouble lies and why you are having trouble understanding what I was saying.

Like I said -- Holyfield is a LARGE DUDE, again, I am a little over 5'9" and 210 lbs, close to Marciano size, just look at Holyfield next to me and tell me Marciano was bigger --- NO WAY....
Just look at Evander beside a 253 lb old big George, he was as wide as a truck, his neck was 19-20 inches. Evander is much much bigger than Marciano, he would do exactly to Marciano what he did to Tyson only easier.
Ones things for sure, Marciano would never stop Evander, not even close.
well i dont mean to take cheap shots or knock on the guy, but Thunder Lips is saying Marciano is naturally bigger than Rocky. he also says that the only heavyweights that would stand a chance of beating rocky are gene tunney and wlad klitschko. he also says that roland lastarza would have fucked tyson up, and he doesnt seem to give holyfiled enough credit saying he faded in almost every high profile fight he won.
just read his redicilous statements on those pages
i know it's a matter of opinion, but sounds to me like it's a complete bullshit
i couldnt take the guy serious after he said rocky was bigger than evander

TRUST ME --- HOLYFIELD is a LARGE INDIVIDUAL, I am a little over 5'9" tall and 210 lbs. and look at Evander next to me... i cant see the picture, and i agreed with you in the first place. Thunder Lips tried to argue me on that, but no way rocky is bigger than evander. NO WAY
I posted a thread on this very matchup years ago here, but at Cruiserweight, since Marciano was at his best at that weight too.
Thunderlips was wrong, Marciano was smaller than Holyfield --- ALOT smaller.
I personally think this one is a "blood and guts battle royale" !!
I also think while it would be a very long night for both fighters, Holyfield walks away with the Title, after an exhausted Marciano finally can take no more and the fight is stopped.
Evander Holyfield wins by TKO Round 13... i also read a couple of other posts by Thunder Lips in the past and he said that the only fighters he would give a chance of beating rocky are Klitschko and Tunney......WTF

Holyfield is leagues better, get serious. Marciano was good for the era but Holyfield is one of the most athletic, fit, dedicated, and all-round skilled heavyweights of all time, plus he has a strong beard so no 190 lb mauler like Marciano is gonna give him too much trouble (Qawi wasn't dissimilar to Marciano). Holyfield would TKO him in about three or four rounds, too much overall. You can't match Marciano with the modern era, he gets smoked almost every time, the guy had no defence and average speed, plus he's tiny.
WTH are you talking about??? I'm not talking about Tyson, I'm talking about a bout between Holy and Marciano...you know, since it's a thread about those two. oh, my bad, i got confused. in my previous post i asked whether i was the only one who thought mike would beat rocky. it's a different discussion but you have to read other posts to get what we were talking about.
anyway your post came right after mine, and it got messed up.
i cant see mike making that weight to be competitive without being seriously weight drained unless he was 17 again.

At a catch-weight of about 190lbs., this would've been an interesting fight. i cant see mike making that weight to be competitive without being seriously weight drained unless he was 17 again.
Calling him a bum is an exaggeration. LaStarza might not have been as good as Thunder Lips is making him out to be but he was no bum.
He had went 37 fights undefeated before losing a split decision to Marciano, lost two fights afterwards and avenged them both.
LaStarza won a split decision against Rex Layne, a top contender in the era which got him the rematch against Marciano for the world heavyweight title.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TBgf4H2ybho
He was a good defensive fighter so Marciano decided to target his arms until they were broken and he could not hold his hands up anymore.
After losing to Marciano, he was never a top fighter again.

http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=18388&rendTypeId=4 calling him a bum was a little harsh on my part but it was a statement made in the heat of the passion. la starza beating tyson was indeed an idiotic statement and also offensive and disrespectful to one of my favourite fighters. to suggest that, id have to question that person's knowledge but i responded.
he was a game opponent but nothing special. by no means was he a stand out or considered a serious threat among contenders of that era. durable fighter with tricks in the bag, but definetly not what thunder lips is making him out to be. he lost to quite a few fighters after the rocky losses, but he hasnt done much before that with limited opposition on his record.
i dont understand, but am i the only one who thinks a prime tyson beats rocky marciano, and in the process might actually get the ko.
because that's where i think all the talk was leading to from the start
and for the record even James Tillis, or any other good cruiserweight today would beat lastarza. he was a bum in the division without having beaten anyone, the fact that he gone the distance with rocky does nothing to disapprove that.

i cant actually believe that im replying to this bullshit trying to make a point, but ill make your day
mike won that fight and knocked tillis down in the process. it wasnt his best performance, but there was nothing shady about the decision. you dont seem to factor in the fact that tyson wasnt in his prime. he was still at a learning stage and a young, up and coming contender with only 19 fights! there was a huge gap in experience. tillis had 31 fights having fought the likes of witherspoon, shavers, carl williams, pinklon thomas, greg page, and mike weaver.
your comparison is very stupid, no offence. you dont look at the facts. you seem to really romance rocky too much, and tend to to think that anyone who gave him a hard time or gone the distance with him would give trouble to mike or any other fighter.
you also showed your biase toward holyfield and i dont like it. saying he faded in fights??? if that's the case i can point out almost every other heavyweight that faded in fights either early or late. a win is a win, and holyfield beat some opposition and gone the distance with guys rocky wouldnt even have a chance with
and who the fuck is roland lastarza? what the fuck has he ever done? what other name has he been in the ring with other than rocky???
the guy is a contender whom people called a trialhorse. like i said lastarza beating tyson is the most diotic statement i ever heard. nothing comes close
im not gonna waste my time and respond to any stupid posts unless you start making sense and come up with reasonable posts.
tyson was in his prime. if not, when was it?

As good time as any to throw in the towel. Do you really think the 207 lb former cruiser with a losing record Tillis that nearly broke even with Mike was that much better than 37-0 LaStarza. The quick and mobile defensive minded Tillis was like an average version of LaStarza and one of the few fighters of that type we got to see Mike against.
Thanks, Manchine on the Rocky/Matthews post. I made a similar one in some other Rocky was a mindless midget that beat up old men thread. I like how he starts using the jab to shut down Matthews counters in the second round. i cant actually believe that im replying to this bullshit trying to make a point, but ill make your day
