I like to see good KO's, but I feel bad for Johnston on that one. His head hit the canvas hard and looks like he's ok, which is good.
Cherry might be another name to add to the LW division. He might not be one of the best, but he could be a challenge for some.
Jesus. Really sad ending. I feel for Stevie. That was hard to watch.
Aye, hardly one of my happier moments. I might be alone and it's 11pm, but I think this means it's time to open up my 1.75 and get to work.
Round 10: Cherry trying to measure and his right to knock out Stevie. Stevie not even moving anymore as he's flat footed standing in front of CHerry. Johnston is completely gassed as he threw a jab and seemed too tired to adjust his feat afterward. CHerry staying outside just looking for a right, Johnston still following him a little, trying to get inside. Inside Cherry lands a copule to the body again. Cherry bouncing on his toes looking for that right hand still, using his jab a little now as Stevie tries to engage but can't even throw a punch. Oh shit, big, big straight right By cherry that flattens Johnston. Johnston's head nailed the canvas, and I hope he's ok. Ref immediately stops the fight. Johnston is woozey but seems ok on the canvas.
Round 9: Teddy Atlas crying about Byrd. Round starts off in close and Cherry lands a decent left to the body as they each hold and hit. Cherry seems to have abandoned his plan and is trying to move in a little bit now, Johnston digs to the body a little. Some more wrestling. Not quite sure what Cherry is trying to accomplish other than smother Johnston. Finally a couple of decent shots by Cherry, a good right catches Johnston whlie he's on the ropes. Sitting down on some shots and Johnston is obviously hurt, Johnston tries to roll away off the ropes and is knocked down. Johnston still woozy and Cherry looking to finish him ans he's still sitting down on his punches. Bell probably saving Stevie. 87-82 Cherry.
Johnston might not make it out of next round as he looks gassed and still woozy after the bell.
Round 8: Start of the round is a clash of heads that Cherry doesn't seem to like. Decent right by cherry on the inside, then a coule of jabs on the outside. Cherry n longer throwing the jab, purely looking for that coutner right. Johnston just not throwing anything until they're clinched. Two lefts by Johnston up top. Wrestling a little on the inside as they each continue to throw a copule to the body. Johnston's handspeed is diminished in this round noticeably, but still showing solid technique at slipping cherry's punches. Another round for Johnston by simply being busier. 77-74
Seems like Stevie is gonna have to do something special to win this fight. Sad to see him maybe at the end of road as far as his career goes. I remember him being a big deal here in Colorado back in his hey day.
Round 7: Cherry goes back to the same strategy as before. Throwing the jab a little while looking to lad up on a right hand when Johnston comes in. Johnston with a good left . Johnston land s a couple of shots on the inside up and down. Johnston was the busier fighter and slipped the bulk of Cherry's punches, first round he's won in a while. 68-64 Cherry.
