Gamboa is 26? Fuck i thought he was only in his young 20's. He's not exactly a spring chicken is he. How come he left it so late before he turned a pro, specially if he is considered so special by many of you?
He's Cuban, with all that implies for a boxer.

Hes Cuban, Cubans aren't allowed to turn pro ... He probably went through a lot of trouble.

Uh, first "knockdown" wasn't even close to a knockdown. And I think it's no secret that Mayweather's defense was better.
I was there, it was a clean knockdown.
Mayweather didn't get dropped twice in his first ten fights.

Good point there...I really did not know Mayweather fought a guy that was 1-13. That is an embarassment for Mayweather fans. At least Gamboa fights tough guys with winning records. He keeps his hands low like Naseem Hamed, but he gets centepede points for fighting a tuff, experience guy like Jiminez, who had a solid record and outstanding amateur career(4 time Golden Golves champ). This in Gamboa's 10th fight. But lets face it, Leon Spinks won the Heavyweight title from Ali in his 10th fight and kept his hands up while doing it. There is no real connection there, I just felt like throwing that in. My bad.
Gamboa is a talented fighter, but comparisons to Floyd? really?
i'd love to see him one day become a top p4p fighter because his style of boxing is my favourite to watch, but i just don't see it happening unfortunately
You also have to factor that Gamboa is 26 years old and has had over 400 ametuer fights.
True, but Floyd had a pretty good amatuer background himself and started boxing very young. Hell he won a national GG title at 15. And like Ricky said he was almost 20 when he turned pro, 21 when he was in Gamboa's position.
Well Floyd Sr. said his son was ready for Oscar, Zu and Mosley by his tenth fight and Floyd was calling them out.
In Floyds 13th and 14th fight he fought and won the WBC Featherweight title against a 38-1 Hernandez and then he fought Manfredy.
Floyd was better then Gamboa is right now....
Floyds pro debut.
Floyd is BETTER then Gamboa in EVERY category.....
Height
Reach
Defense
Speed
Power
Movement
Its not even close.
Oh yeah and Floyd was 17 in this vid.....
Gamboa is currently 26.
Mayweather was 19 in that vid, almost 20 :owned:
it was a mistake....
what do you have to say about this thread or about what i posted???
Well I don't believe that Floyd would have gotten by Jimenez in his pro debut. Everyone that Gamboa has fought as a pro has had a winning record, only one of Floyd's first 5 opponents had one. Even in Floyd's 9th pro fight, he fought a guy 1-13-1, pretty safe to say they were much more careful with Floyd.
After 10 fights though, I'd say Floyd had the advantages in trainer, height, reach and defence. Probably enough to win him the fight.

Floyd fought Hernandez in his 18th pro fight after two years as pro, nice try though.
