I love Mexican fighters, what boxing fan doesn't? Through the ages there have been legendary fights and fighters and Mexico has always been represented with distinction in both these categories. Still today there are exceptionally talented Mexican fighters like Israel Vazquez and the Marquez brothers, all three of whom have been in titanic battles as recently as a few months ago, but it seems the Chosen One of the Mexican fans is Antonio Margarito. This is a man who has zero big name scalps on his record and has been involved in the same amount of memorable scraps which leaves me with one question for Mexican boxing fans: why do you love this joker and heap praise upon him ahead of fellow countrymen who truly embody the Mexican spirit and are infinitely more talented?
coming from a pinoy, i just laugh, waiting for pacquiao to fight again? dont worry its almost time
it's true you retarded pendejo, Margarito is a hype job, soon to be expose that he does not belong with the elites in the ring. Margarito will LOSE...awww How sweet, you even have a picture of your boyfriend Margie on your sig....
Mexican fighters keep coming up and up...kicking every puerco rican .filipenis and anyone inbetweens butts...Here comes Angulo and Mares and Arreola and David rodriguez and chavez jr and mijares and luevano and solis and guerrero and etc....we can go on forever....they all talk tough until they get in the ring....and some only fight the old to try to claim greatness (ex pac)....They will always be mexican fighters to root for because they fight the world....it's either the mexican puerco rican rivalry or the so called filipenis rivalry or american mexican rivalry or the african mexican rivalry....or the south american mexican rivalry or the japanese mexican rivalry...and still mexicans end up with most of the belts.....damn impressive....
this guy need badly attention:duh:
exatamundo..
You dumb SOB, Margarito is one of the biggest hype job right now. Maggie will lose badly, then it's bye bye hbo for him, hello espn bums fight night.
I don't hate him I just don't get him. I read threads every day about Margarito this, Margarito that but very rarely do I see threads of the same type about Vazquez or Marquez brothers. Margarito appears to be an anti-hero more than anything else. He's not especially gifted, doesn't seem to have a great personality, he hasn't really achieved anything and doesn't appear to have the kind of charisma you would normally associate with such a popular character. I appreciate the Mexican mentality of supporting your own but I'm still left puzzled as to why Margarito is worthy of special attention when it seems there are other more deserving guys out there.
When I think of the Mexican spirit I think of a come forward fighter who is prepared to go into the trenches and walk back out no matter what happens. Margarito is certainly a come forward fighter but I have never seen him in a real battle and I think the other guys mentioned all outstrip him in that department.
What you say here kind of backs up my point about him being an anti-hero, his popularity is more to do with his lack of endearing characteristics than it is his possession of them.
So because you don't see as many threads about Marquez's or Vasquez right now, Margarito is automatically higher than them in the view of most Mexicans? Sorry but that doesn't mean anything. And the reason there are so many threads about Margarito right now is obviously because there is a big fight in the works that will put two warriors from different countries against each other in what many know it will be a great fight. Not too long ago you couldn't find a single Margarito supporter among the sea of Floyd fans and others who would instantly discredit him as nothing more than a bum.
Also you said that Margarito does not embody the Mexican spirit of being a come forward fighter that will give it his all in there ring. Yet by your own admission you say that you don't actually know if he does because you have never seen him challenged like that.
I personally believe I have but regardless you can not say someone does not have something if it has not been checked, correct?
And lastly, you must have read into my last paragraph incorrectly, because he does have endearing characteristics. He is tough as nails, comes forward and always appears to leave everything he has in the ring. What else would one want in a hero? As for his charisma he is actually a really likable guy. He isn't out there flashing his bills as symbol of his worth, talking through his teeth lying, or beating his wife. The guy is approachable, and he will tell you how he feels straight and simple. He doesn't have huge entourage of gang bangers and other lowlifes.
Once HW heats up, we'll be talking about Arreola. Tony is our representative in the hotbed of WWs. Just how legit is a sub-Middleweight class if you can't point and say " That's the best Mexican fighter " and he's not in the top ten.
Not before we claim him as the best American HW first...

The question you should be asking is why do you hate him so much? it is obvious that you do since you are automatically assuming that Mexican fans put Margarito ahead of Marquez's and Vasquez and call him all these ridiculous names and even go as far as to say that he does not embody the Mexican spirit. The fact of the matter is Mexican fans represent by cheering their own. Mexican fans believe IT IS world championship boxing and thus you support your countrymen as they get ready to engage in battle, no matter if they are champion of the world and #1 p4p or just a tough hombre. How can you be patriotic if you don't?

On the Mexican spirit:
What is the Mexican spirit?
Is it hard work? Tony works hard and trains just as hard as any Mexican fighter
Is it determination and warrior mentality? I've never seen Tony give up even in fights where he has been loosing?
Antonio Margarito, Just like Marquez, Vasquez, Morales, Barrera, and any other highly recognized Mexican fighter of any era, FULLY EMBODIES THE MEXICAN SPIRIT.

He might not be as successful as them, and that there is the difference between them and Margarito. Is his time coming? We'll see, but you can bet your pennies that as long as Tony seems like a cool guy and represents Mexico there will be many Mexican fans who will support him and cheer him on and isn't that what makes a fan a great fan? Any so called fan can jump on and off a bandwagon.

I've never heard of a fighter who got more hype and praise for doing nothing. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Pacquiao has been offing Mexican legends left and right for the past 4-5 years and they're running out of ideas.
Paul Williams went toe to toe with him and won
So that negates Viva's comments
Baddest man on the planet? Wow, I guess that means Daniel Santos and Paul Williams are superhuman.
I believe Mexicans fans are rooting for Margarito because they got nothing to lose on this one. They know themselves he's a hype job, he loses its fine, he takes a major scalp that would be awesome.
It sounds like you are saying that anyone who has dared to go toe-to-toe with Margarito has been killed - mind telling me who?
Don't waste your breath trying to make sensible talk with this guy. Nothing you say, no matter how valid you are, will ever break this dudes delusional thoughts about Margarito.
its because the opponents run away in fear of this man. no man has dared to go toe to toe with the tijuana tornado and lived to tell about. anywhere who tried to stand in the pocket with margarito has gotten knocked out. i am hoping cotto has the cojones to try and go toe to toe with the baddest man in the planet.

mexicans love all there fighters who are true warriors but there is always more fans of the most exciting fighters and margarito is the most exciting mexican fighter right now. it doesnt matter who he fights or where he fights he always comes forward and there is bad intentions in every punch he throws.
I haven't seen any Margarito fight that has come anywhere near the excitement levels of any of the Marquez v Vazquez trilogy or indeed Juan Manuel's recent fight with Pacman.
who cares about talent when you have the will and determenation of a pitbull....talent has nothing to do with tony...we love tony cause he comes to fight .....he gives 100 percent everytime win or lose and for a guy with such little talent as you say hes done pretty well hasnt he....i mean he is fighting who i consider the best welterweight right now miguel cotto......and he didnt get their just on his name alone...hes here for a reason and he will be victorious on the 26th of july! so please dont question our love for any of our fighters.:boxing:
I didn't say he wasn't talented but what I don't understand is why he is so popular in comparison to three warriors who are more talented, come to fight and Vazques and Rafael Marquez in particular have shown more heart and that famous Mexican spirit than I have ever seen from Margarito.
Most Mexican fans I see show props to all their guys, no matter how big their rep is or isn't or what division they fight in. I don't any fans period that ain't got love for Izzy and Raf, especially Mexican fans. Margarito's been waitin for a chance to shine for a long time so of course a lot of Mexican fans are backin him strong as fuck right now.
