Just watched the klitchsko fight for the tenth time and it still baffles me how lewis can run into retirement after that fight without issuing a rematch and has enough satisfaction in doing it to be happy about it and call himself the best of all time and he went out "on top". pathetic!
Calzaghe the Englishman is overrated by many.
exactly Lewis is no more Canadian than Calzaghe is English
& if anyone is overated its Calzaghe thats why he looked like an Amateur against a 43 year old man the best oponent he has ever faced LMAO
Vitali was clearly winning the fight at the time of the controversial stoppage....He was kicking Lewis' ass with ONE EYE, Vitali hurt Lewis several times and made him stagger like a drunk....Vitali gave Lewis the biggest ass whoopin of his career....After the fight all the fans cheered Vitali and boo'd Lewis.
I lost all the respect I had for Lewis when he retired like a coward.
Vitali scared Lewis into retirement, that's the bottom line.
Are you fucking kidding me?!?!? Vitali's face was falling apart!
Vitali couldn't even beat an out of shape and out of prime Lewis so pull Vitali's dick out of your mouth and get some air you stupid cunt!
Lennox Lewis = Greatest Heavyweight Champion of all time!
Vitali Klitschko = http://www.smileyhut.com/silly/tumbleweed.gif

Aside from the obvious fact that you never had any respect for Lennox because he is of a different race to yours, did you lose respect for Vitali when he retired like a coward rather than face Hasim Rahman? Oh yeah, knee injury, oh yeah, doctor said he shouldn't fight. Four times?
Unlike most fighters, he avenged his losses!
That Rahman KO in the II fight was sick!!!!!
No one can touch him, he beat all the best fighters of his era which is rare and nearly blinded Vitali Klitschko in one eye.
The King Of Kings!!!!!

UNDISPUTED
Threads like this really annoy me............ The idiot who started this is not a fan of boxing and is just intersted in seeing blood spilt. There is always one more fight for a boxer, but the samrt thing is to retired when you feel the time is right. Lewis simply knew that the fight was harder than he thought and was not motivated to train anymore. When you have spent your whole life not ducking anyone surley it takes a pride to be able to walk away from a challenge.
And by the way, don't say 'if it was me', because you have know idea what it is to be a professional athlete on that level and nor do i so how can we pass comment.
What a short sighted retard!
How can Lewis be a coward when he fought everyone and never ducked anyone. All the other heavyweights in their prime ran from him Tyson,Holyfield,Bowe and Moorer. Tyson and Holyfield only wanted a piece of him later because he had something they wanted and it was the biggest moneymaker.
If he had rematched Klitchko I believe he would have won even though he was way past his best, but we will never know.
Had they rematched and he lost, you'd all be saying he was shit and too stupid to get out of the game when he should of and fought on too long like all the others.
Exactly, Lewis had no reason to fight Klitchko, he had achieved the most out of his career at that point and the only one who would have gained anything would have been Klitchko, therefore why should Lewis fight again?
Its redundant that Klitscho was leading on the cards, its redundant that Klitscho was giving Lewis real problems because Klitscho was stopped due to injury sustained by receiving punches therefore are we only happy when the recognised champion is beaten and vacates the titles that way???
Or do we need fighters to fight on even though they are not what the used to be purely for our gratification ala Muhammed Ali so that when they are humiliated we then feel pity for them but move on to the next fighter whilst they possible have to deal with a brain injury due to receiving one punch too many?
Lewis had a great career but realised that he was no longer the fighter he used to be and retired. He should be applauded not disrespected.

People who (incredibly) bitch about the Lewis-Vitali fight always forget one little insignificant (for what does it matter when outrage is involved?) bit of information: Lewis won legitimately. There was no robbery, no bad decision, no room for argument.
There is nothing else that should be said really, but this subject will always get people involved. The ones that go on about the scorecards being in favor of Vitali, does it matter that he won some rounds before the critical ending of the fight that was going into Lewis' favor? It doesn't matter if Vitali beat the crap out of Lewis for every single round before the last one, because in the end he was risking permanent damage to his eyes, so it was rightfully stopped.
And another thing, I don't think anyone actually thinks this fight would have gone to the decision in any way, so that makes those points even less significant(except for the fact that Vitali was getting the better of an old Lewis).
like someone said before, you don't always have to beat someone twice. This was a completely diffirent situation for Lewis. He was gonna end his career anyhow and klitschko got to him by luck, and let the oppurtunity slip away from him. Lennox did the right thing at the end.
bullshit, lewis schooled him before stopping him man, lewis is ten times the boxer that both the klitchsko brothers are put together..............
uh,,,I think someone needs to actually watch the fight
yeah, u know lewis said a rematch was going to happen. what happened to that? does that get glossed over because he was "too old."
i think vitali seemed to be more than he could handle - add in the age factor if u want. he knew vk was hungry for lewis's title. i would bet that a rematch would've been the toughest fight he would've ever had. vk would not have been as respectfull in the ring.
and some of you people need to not hate a fighter because of his fans. u guys can't be that retarded. the brothers are nothing like a good 60% of their fans you know.
anyways, this is too old for me to argue about. people think with their hearts more than about how a ematch would play out - which is basically what this thread was about. and i just love how ll waited until the last month to decide to retire. he was really pissed at vitali for some reason.
I Think the man fled like a gutless coward to be honest..
He knew he would get his ass kicked if he fought VK again..
He went has far has to saying he would give VK a rematch when he was
asked straight after the fight from VK himself now thats what i dont like about
the man..
He was clever enough to quit the game.
Not because of him wanting to retire on top! i dont believe that at all
He got out cuz he knew he was gonna get knocked out

I'll never take you seriously as a poster after your bullshit thread on how Cotto got wobbled by Gomez.
You know, I actually appreciate Vitali's style, but when you have this would've, could've, should've crap, it's easy to pick on him. To think that he got stopped by a guy who got stopped by a feather-fisted LHW is unimaginable. The would've could've should've theory applies here too but the fact is:
Chris Byrd TKO9 Vitali Klitschko
Nothing is going to change that, which is pretty pathetic for Vitali, where all he had to do was play defense.
The losses to Byrd and Lewis would be glossed over more if he had more quality wins. As it is, he was a capable heavyweight (yes, I will give him that), without a good share of quality wins over top heavyweights. He had some decent wins, but in terms of the quantity of quality wins over top heavyweights at the time, he's no better than some of the 80s alpha HW titlists that get bashed all the time.
It's most speculation, and you should rank fighters on resumes and achievement, not speculation and "fun facts".
Lewis won the fight legitemately, but he obviously had trouble which made him realise enough is enough. Whats this thread about?
To call any boxer a coward is disrespectful as it takes more guts than most people ever need to climb into a ring but to call Lewis a coward, the guy dominated the Heavyweight division for a period and fought and beat some good and great fighters along the way.
He just got old???
