Truth be told the better fighter is Miguel Cotto. Cotto can adapt and change things on the fly as he needs to in order to win a fight, Trinidad never had that ability. He was a one dimensional knockout artist who was so good at doing things his own way he was never forced to dig down, and change his style in order to win a fight. The few occasion where he was, he lost (well the Oscar fight he couldn't change and lost anyway in most people's eyes, and Hopkins dominated him).
But if the question is which fighter did more through boxing for Puerto Rico, Trinidad wins hands down. That's why he so much more beloved.
its true cotto is still in his prime years. he still has more to prove to be number 1. he's definately doing a good job as of now.
but tito is still the man cause of his record.
A prime Trinidad was a huge draw and up to this point had so many bigger and better fights then Cotto. Just like every said tho, Cotto is still very young. But fighting A Gomez and other nobodys isnt getting him anywhere.
How can one even tell at this point. I can see Cotto becoming better at this point, but Trinidad WAS a great fighter. The only thing I hope for is that Cotto will continue to keep fighting the best and retire once he's faded unlike Trinidad is doing right now
Trinidad was a more devastating knockout puncher, but he is also naturally bigger than Cotto. I like how Cotto carries himself and lets his fighting do the talking. Trinidad talks to much...and doesn't admit it when he knows he lost. I think when Cotto's career is over he will have achieved more.
to make that assesment it would be better to wait until cotto's career is over. thus far cotto's accomplishments do not surpass those of Titos'. not to say he's a not a good fighter, but he needs more fights. trinidad's career is long over, eventhough he still hangs around, but we know what he did in his hey day
Trinidad is. At least at this point! If theyd fought Peak Tito i mean he'd have Knocked Cotto out id think, i was sure of it before but Cotto is closing the gap
