I missed the fight last night, anyone have details? Was he winning or was he struggling all fight? Clean punch or was it a combination of punches and a stoppage?
I told mike-Mike after the first round that the guy was trying to set him up for the left hand, true, and he got caught with it anyway. But every day is anew day, and what a guy does on the first day isnt always what he will do on the fifth day. Mike has beaten better fighters than the guy we just got stopped by. With that said, I dont feel like Molitor is exactly a superstar in the making or anything like that. I definitely feel with the right focus and everything that Mike-Mike could beat Molitor, ABSOLUTELY. Molitor is doing well, cant take that from him at all, I just dont feel like he is a major threat to the best guys in the world and, in other words, his level isnt so much different than ours.
Ice, you really think Oliver belongs in the ring with Molitor after getting rocked and KO'd in the early rounds as a 10:1 fav? Especially with part of the team telling him exactly what the dude was trying to do? Molitor is far better than this guy that just took Oliver out with ease...
I apologize. I misread your statement. I was mighty disappointed in Olivers performance. As I am sure you were. I read what you said wrong. Sorry.QUOTE]
OK, that's cool then. And yes I was EXTREMELY disappointed with Mike-Mike. He is a world class boxer but in that fight his focus seemed to be ABSENT. A lot of hard work that didnt come to the light.
I said: Originally "I told Gary the day after he lost to Mike-Mike that if it is up to me then we would fight him again and I feel the same way now."
Then YOU said...I was at the club in Boston for the fight. I dont really thing Mike or you are in any batgaining position here. It s almost a "take what you can get and get out" situation for oliver. He got a gift from Stark when they fought and he just got knocked out. i dont really see how his trainer is all of the sudden thinking theyre holding the cards. Im not trying to be a smart alec, just stating an opinion.
I mean...I dont really understand what you are saying...I said that if Stark wants to fight us again we would do it (if it was up to me). Saying that makes me seem as though I think we are holding all the cards?? THAT is what you got out of that statement? Seems to me like you are more or less against me in particular and just LOOKING for something to say
I know it's been asked but I haven't seen a response. Is there a video anywhere of this KO? I've searched google and youtube for the past few days since the fight with no luck.
right on. i'd like to see that fight, too. i give stark jr. a lot of respect for getting back in there with the guy who put him to sleep, and doing enough to beat him.
Some felt he didn't do enough to win the rematch with Ledesma.
The whole Stark/Oliver thing is pretty strange.
Two up and coming, undefeated 122 pounders face off in a virtually even, somewhat controversial fight. Stark then goes on to lose to someone he had no business losing to by way of 1 punch KO. Oliver suffers the same fate almost 1 year later. Stark got some revenge against his guy later on, maybe Mike will come back and beat Lopez some time this year.
Then we could see Stark/Oliver II at the end of 2008. How bout it Ice?

Mike tried to impress in front of the home crowd and fight him instead of to move like he should have. He lost to Gary Stark as well. THAT WAS A ROBBERY.
Unless im losing my memory, im like 99.5% sure Oliver beat Stark. Im actually 100% sure. Oliver beat Stark by a decision. I remember because i was pulling for Stark in that fight. Oliver is a good fighter. He just needs to learn from the defeat and keep on keepin on.

damn homie where you been
It was a surprise...the punch, a big LEFT hand came so suddenly....anything can happen in a ring, I know that going in but man.... When Mike went down it was so crazy, it was almost like I thought he tripped or something. Surreal. After the first round, though, I was telling him that the guy was trying to sneak him, sucker him for the straight left hand. It was pretty clear to me...he was throw slower puncher, wider punches, range finders. Then WHIP, he would drop one in real fast. He missed mike with it in the first round but it was clear what his strategy was. I warned him three times between the first and second round and once more before the third.... The way Lopez suddenly moved to his left and got a bit out of Mike's range of vision before dropping that last shot was the result of a very, very smart and calculated move. He executed it very well, gotta' hand it to him on that one. Now we'll see what Mike-Mike is made of in his heart and character, etc.
It seemed to me that the ref was going to let the fight continue because he was the house fighter and undefeated, but he second guessed himself and just stopped the fight.
Oliver never even saw the punch coming because as you said, Lopez was throwing punches from wider angles and had Oliver looking for the wide punches. Then when he dropped that left hand, it was all over.

You know, I think in general it is a mistake to write someone off IMMEDIATELY after a loss like this...or to say a guy is chinless because he got stopped like that....just because a guy gets drilled it doesnt mean he cant take a punch, etc. Plenty of guys suffered bad losses and still came back like gangbusters...Tery Norris and Marlon Starling are two very good examples...Joe Louis is another...Foreman is yet another. Is Mike Oliver capable of coming back from this? I don't know. But I certainly wouldn't say NO based simply on what happened last night, you know? If it was that easy to break guys and their careers and potential down we wouldnt even need them to fight more than once in their entire careers.
One way or the other, if he is to do good or to flop ....we'll see when the time comes (and only then)
ICE
well i was responding to the guy who said right...and if it bows when coming in it's a hook. and yes he did "hook" the shot...so y'all the dumbasses :owned:
Stop lying to yourself... That's like saying "oh he ran into that punch", "no, not really he actually walked into with a slight hop"
Exactly, I'm starting to think even fight fans blink before the fighters get hit, because lately I've been hearing the craziest fight observations, because I was just going to ask dude when was the last time he seen a southpaw knock someone out with a left hook...
Nah I dont think he realized that they were both southpaws to be honest being that both men were he probably assumed since they have the same stance I dont fucking know what he was thinking really, but he didnt have any trouble talking shit, saying we didnt see the fight.
Okay maybe I missed the second round, but that was only becuase I tuned in to the rise and fall of Charlie Z for a second once I came back downstairs about 1 min after the fight was over I saw and heard a perfect shot land, and the lights went out.
Obviously you didnt watch the fight, He got hit by a straight left hand, both fighters are south paws you dumbass.

it was a left hook that KOed him...did you even watch the fight?

The shot was a picture perfect left hand while Oliver threw a wide right hook the left hand got there first and Mike fell face first to the floor, he did beat a slow ass ten count and the ref was going to let the fight go he looked back at mike and decided hell no I will not let Atlas and the rest of ESPNs network put this one on me, the fight is over son!
He really was in no condition to continue I think he got knocked out becuase he was trying to impress the home crowd with a knock out. and what happens when you go out there looking for the Kayo?
