We all saw Saturdays performance against former Super Featherweight Champ Steve Forbes... And after a careful assessment, can we assume that The Golden Boy has no chance againt Mayweather Jr? Judging from the looks of his face...I would have to say no...others may disagree. Give your opinion.
Think about this:
In his last fight, Mayweather fought the best JWW in the world ( a guy STILL in the top ten P4P), and dominated and knocked that guy out. Mayweather was untouched.
In his last fight, Oscar outpointed a solid JWW. And Oscar's face was lumped up in the process.
thanks in large part to Señor Cortez..
Oscar showed last time he's still good enough to compete wit Floyd, just not good enough to take him. And a year later and older it won't get any better for him.
Very astute post. I emboldened the parts I particularly agree with.
....I do think that Floyd has a shot at a stoppage; but may not go for it seeing as how Oscar is a promoter Mayweather could be dealing with in the future.
...if you want the inheritance, you don't embarrass "dad". :)
:lol1: These posts are a treat. Somehow Floyd has become some baddass KO artist who KO's Hall-of-Famers on demand and Oscar suddenly is some tomato can with no chin. Can't wait for September.
1st of all, This fight should even be happening, but I like what Oscar & Floyd Sr. were TRYING to do & that's make Oscar fight "tall" (keeping his distance & jabbing). He looked average against a smaller Forbes (who had slight success in spurts), but against a fighter of Mayweather's calibur, he's going to pay for every mistake he makes!
From visiting various boxing sites, I'm noticing some patterns along fan/haters alike...
1)There are people saying he fought smart, didn't fatigue, threw combos
2) Some say he was shot, if Forbes had more power he would have won,
3) Some people say it's just a TUNE-UP & they were "testing the waters" with the new style & seeing what works
4) He's back, looks like the old oscar, the style to beat mayweather
The answer to the question is NO...this fight was at 150, 4 months from now a 35yr old Oscar has to shred 3 more pounds & step in the ring (again) to face arguably the greatest fighter in the world! Oscar's days are numbered
i don't know if i saw the same fight as some people who have posted on the subject.
i'm not a floyd or an oscar fan- but oscar has no chance of beating floyd in the rematch.
NO CHANCE. the fight is going to just annoy me now after the steve forbes performance.
everyone seems to forget that floyd is only about 3x faster than forbes, and better on every level. if oscar looked that busted after forbes, floyd will get a stoppage in the rematch just from opening oscars face up.
oscar can't win, he is too old. it's time for this to be realized by everybody. he lost his best shot at beating floyd last year- he won't look as good as he did in the first fight.
i'm not hating, but this is true. this fight is a waste of time, i much prefer floyd fight another big name he hasn't fought before if he's going to avoid cotto for awhile. mosley would be a fine fight if he beats judah. but the oscar rematch is officially all money and politics to me now. my interest has lessened, forbes made oscar look bad

In a nutshell, Oscar is going to get paid royally.....to lose again.
Great game to be popular in. :)
There was nothing I saw in the Forbes fight that showed me Oscar is ready for Floyd. Really, this is a fight for Floyd to lose meaning he would have to take Oscar lightly and not train as hard to lose.
i dont think anyone can be ready for mayweather. it seems like sometimes the best plan is to not have an outline to beat him but to prepare to ADAPT to the flow of the fight.
Oscar looked really good in the Forbes fight. If he can continue...and even improve his conditioning some more, he will have a great chance to win the Mayweather fight. No question De La Hoya will get hit much harder by Mayweather, but if he stays busy and keeps the pressure on he can win. Although Mayweather is very good at making adjustments and his conditioning is excellent. Should be another close fight.
Oscar did look good against Forbes, but then again he was hand picked for Oscar. I don't know that he will remain that relaxed when he has a real threat in front of him. The fight had a sparring match type feeling to it. I think Oscar is as ready as he's going to be but I just don't think that it'll be enough to beat Floyd.
I believe the rematch will NOT be close at all...Money will destroy DLH, sending him into retirement..If DLH decides to keep his jab working, it will be interesting to see how Money adjust to it..
Oscar didn't look horrible against Forbes, but Forbes and Mayweather aren't even close to comparable - outside of the fact that they're African Americans.
Forbes looked like a sparring partner in there with Oscar. I don't think Oscar can handle the elite welters (mayweather, cotto, margarito) anymore.
Oscar is smart though; he said his goal was to be a billionaire. I'm almost positive his next two fights will be Floyd and Cotto.
He'll lose both, but probably earn about 40 million combined... That's not too bad for a year's work (plus the forbes check).
Oscar's last fight will be next year against either JC Chavez Jr. or Tito.
delahoya got hit with some good shots by forbes, and he swole up pretty good. Floyd is more accurate than forbes and far more superior in conditioning, you cant compare the 2 in achievements or in style
Forbes has some ineffective flash and moves, nothing close to mayweather.
+ dela fighting at 147 :nonono:, mayweather will win this fight with far more ease than the last one,
Is he serious, on his toes against mayweather? ...what the hell is that for strategy, or take his time vs mayweather? ...
A wide ud in favor of mayweather, or maybe a ko.
His jab and left hook didnt work last time, it wont work in hell this time, does he honestly think mayweather is gonna be exactly the same as may 5th..
Dust of your copy of the fight if you really think Oscar's jab wasn't effective against Mayweather. Floyd only got into the fight when Oscar stopped throwing it.
Do not be fooled by the haters. Oscar is a great fighter who is capable of beating anyone. There is only a 4yr age difference between Oscar & Floyd too. With a 10 month layoff Floyd might show some rust or slippage.

if its not even competitive then why are they fighting?
how can u be the best, if you dont fight the best.
