Very early to say this, but this kid has something special that I have not seen in a fighter in a long time. I don't know what it is, but he just seems to have that special something.
Reminds me of a young Roberto Duran. I am calling it right now, Jorge Linares will be talked about as an ATG at the end of his career.

I don't know about all of that. Larios has had a lot of fights and some of them were pretty grueling. Shopworn, past it, shot, old....take your pick. They all describe Larios. He's not a punching bag, but he's not a live threat.
Glass Joe is a bit of a dummy. Could have made life a lot easier on himself in his fights with Nolasco and Hernandez. He must be a sucker for excitement and punishment.
Litzau had some moments in the Guerrero fight, but he was dead in the water once he saw his power shots had little effect. I agree with you, he'll never get past being a Friday Night Fights showcase kind of guy. He has a lot of heart though...gotta give him that.
Larios took a beating in that fight. Linares rocked him more times than I care to remember and was landing at will in spots. I was surprised Oscar lasted as long as he did.
That had more to do with Linares than Oscar.

a beating in a half. he suffered a minor subdural hematoma.
He was also stopped by Vazquez by KO rnd 1 in his 22nd pro fight. Obviously he is not what he use to be, but he would still have no problem handing Litzau an ass whooping.
Poor Litzau, you gotta feel for the guy, he works so hard, but he just isn't that smart. He also boils himself down to that weight.

i can respect that, but regardless, Litzau would get outclassed by this old warrior any day. I like Litzau too and I was hoping he would do good against Guerrero seeing how it was his BIG shot, but it wasnt meant to be. Litzau prolly wont get passed the B level in this boxing game.
its sad to think what Linares has done to Larios though. Because of that fight, Larios will never be able to fight in the US basically ending his career. I hope he invested wisely.

i dont like fighters who run from shot old guys like larios
we dont need another mayweather or spinks in the sport
if anyone has atg potencial is valero the guy can knock u out with a slap
You always offer such magnificent insight into the sweet science. I applaud you!
Ok..and so will Berto...Chavez Jr...Gamboa and every other young fighter.....
wtf????
Can he fight someone first???
Berto? Chavez Jr? Give me a break.
Gamboa might be a future ATG, but I am still undecided about his intangibles.
Oscar Larios hasn't had a significant win in YEARS. He is well past his best age and weight class. He beat Vazquez like 6 years ago my dude. Last few years he has been stopped by Vazquez and he was dominated by Pacquiao. At 31-32 with 60+ fights under his belt, he is an old man.
I never said he was a journeyman at his best, but now he's little more than a proud ex-champion and a name.

you are aware that Larios defeated Israel Vazquez CONVINCINGLY by 12th round TKO vic right? He also gave Pacquiao a VERY difficult fight at one point hurting him. Litzau in no way is at Larios level. Larios was a VERY good featherweight and by no means a journeyman.

I agree, classifying Larios as a shot fighter is simply not accurate. He was a long standing champion and a world class fighter. Litzau is nowhere near his level.
mech, i don't have the karma capability you have, so i have to answer in this thread.
i feel that both litzau and homorio were on par with larios, if not better. same type of fighter overall...lanky boxer/puncher, but i feel that larios is damaged goods who left his career at 122. litzao and honorio were both live fighters, even though they were both severely outclassed.

His greatest asset is his composure. Pressure will never work against him simple because he doesn't get anxious or tense. He is always composed, always thinking clearly, always seeing clearly. He has great timing, knows how to use lateral movement, can punch with both hands, throws accurate fluid combinations, has fast hands, and he is smart.
He is not the greatest physical specimen, but there is no fighter in the game today that I feel can match him mentally.
i was about to post this. Linares has seldom ever shown and frustration or behavioral language that would indicate that he is struggling or lost. His facial expression is always the same and at times, when most fighters start to show fatigue, he looks even more determined and mean. Seriously, dude reminds me of the serial killer Richard Ramirez.

Interesting. No need for me to re-watch the fights, but I look forward to seeing him fight in the future. I saw capable defense and power, but nothing spectacular. You appear to be very high on this kid as do a few others here, so I am eager to watch him fight a top Featherweight sometime soon. With 25+ fights under his belt, you'd figure he'd start fighting some live opponents some time soon.
Someone before mentioned a fight with Luevano...that could be a good one.

guerrero is an excellent in and mid range fighter and he's very physical. you can think of him as a David Diaz with better technical skill. he definitely isnt afraid to get bruised and dirty. But I havent seen enough from him to make me think he would defeat Linares. I'm not much on nuthugging on fighters without any valid basis but when it comes to Linares, its hard not to. im hoping he gets a shot at Guerrero and Luevano soon. These fights need to happen for him in order to get him some more attention.
You have misrepresented my statements. I did not say Guerrero was pretty good, I said he was pretty good in every category. He is a very good fighter, but Linares is in verge of becoming a great fighter.
I suggest you rewatch Linares fights. His defense is much better than you think it is. He has a very good blocking and countering game. His first line of defense is his head. He will out think you, and take away all your tools. He will make you not WANT to throw your punches any more. People forget that effective counter punching is a defense.
A jab down the middle of a right hand pushes the right hand to the outside and protects your chin. Defense is not about not getting hit at all, it is about not getting hit cleanly. James Toney is a great example, its not that you couldn't hit Toney, its that the punches you could land were so insignificant as to mean nothing.
Any punch you land will be countered with something better, or will be a glancing blow.
I have seen Guerrero stunned several times. He is open to getting hit flush in the face, he can move his head pretty well, but when he is throwing punches, he is very very hittable. He also lunges in on his punches quite a bit.
Guerrero smells like an early KO for Linares. Guerrero will lunge in with a lead left hand, he will walk into a quick hard left uppercut - strait right - left hook combination. He will wobble and work his defense. He will not be able to adapt because he cannot work his defense and offense at the same time. Every time he throws he will get countered, either he gets discouraged and stops throwing, leading to a wide UD for Linares, or he keeps pressing the action and gets knocked out.
